Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Let’s finish the job.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

It’s a new day. Light all those Biden polls of young people on fire and throw away the ashes.

I really should read my own blog.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Come on, man.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

This blog will pay for itself.

The question is not why they are, but why other radio stations aren’t.

A radio station in, I believe, Detroit of all places did that with the Bay City Rollers’ Saturday Night back in the ’70s.

Oooh, pseudo-music thread so this sorta fits here.

So ok, I posted the trailer on twitter, but I’ve watched it at least 2x and I know it’s just a teaser, but I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I love Boseman (he was great in 42) and I like the director and the actresses who are in the movie.

Watch the Frenetic Trailer for James Brown Biopic ‘Get on Up’
’42’ actor Chadwick Boseman gives his take on the Godfather of Soul

Anyway, I’m def be in line to see this one in the theatres, it’s taken years in the making, so I hope it’s good

Mr IOL has been updating my computer all day. Necessary since I was still running XP. So I just got on and am catching up. How weird is this news about that missing plane landing somewhere in China? I think China anyway.

@Omnes Omnibus: The BayCity Rollers did a cover of Dusty Springfield’s “I only want to be with you” that I absolutely loved as a teenager. But nonstop “Saturday Night”, that qualifies as torture.

It is 67 here today. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 28 and we get 1-3 inches of snow. I will be the first to admit I am no expert on climate, but that seems like kindof fucked up ….

In July, a new Toronto radio station, Indie88, tested out its long-dormant FM signal by playing Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” for a full week.

@Violet: I can’t recall the reason, the local station by me played “Another One Bites The Dust” for like a day. On repeat. Late 70s. My dad was such an anal person (as I am now) that he refused to change the channel and we listened to that darn song for like the entire day we were driving around.

If the front poster in question is truly in California, as he claims, then if he looks out the window he would note that it is still, warm, and sunny.

So it is safe to go outside.

Don’t jaywalk, and until tomorrow, stay away from men in togas with a mean and hungry look.

He should give it a try, that going outside stuff.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

we had a station that did this as a progression where they played a continuous loop of X songs each day, where X was the number of days until format change.

American Pie was the last song standing

This happened at a station in Houston in 1975, give or take a year. It was a deejay-less station, so for about a day and a half, the only thing they broadcast was “Rock On” by Davis Essex, followed by a taped announcer saying “That was Rock On, by David Essex”.

Ages ago, 98 Rock in Tampa played “Stairway to Heaven” non-stop during New Year’s Eve as part of their secret switch to an All Led Zeppelin format. It barely lasted two weeks when they realized 10 albums worth of material doesn’t stretch out the way you think.
