Couldn’t happen to a better person:
Jenny McCarthy has learned the hard way that Twitter can be a dose of bitter medicine.
On Thursday, “The View” co-host posed a seemingly innocuous question to her 1.1 million followers on Twitter: “What is the most important personality trait you look for in a mate? Reply using #JennyAsks.”
The former Playboy model and co-host of the ’90s MTV dating show “Singled Out” has been one of the most outspoken celebrity advocates of a debunked theory linking childhood vaccines with autism. For this reason, her hiring by “The View” last year was widely criticized by public health experts and other members of the medical and scientific community.
Although a few Twitter users responded to McCarthy’s question sincerely, many thousands more co-opted the hashtag to make pointed critiques of her anti-vaccine views. By Friday, #JennyAsks was trending on Twitter, with users naming desirable traits such as “science literacy and critical thinking skills” and “someone who vaccinates, because I’d want our child to survive.”
You can follow the whole fail parade here.

Awesome. I only read a couple dozen of them, but this was my favorite so far:
SiubhanDuinne
Sloppy journalism. As far as I can tell from reading the article, Jenny McCarthy hasn’t learned a fucking thing.
scav
@SiubhanDuinne: Indeed, what does she care who dies or who is harmed or what the truth is? As she says, personal Q SCORE Me Me Me Me Meeeeee! sparkle wink
BGinCHI
When will they invent a vaccine against the stupid?
dmsilev
@BGinCHI: Sadly, there appears to be no cure for Stupid.
Citizen_X
What personality traits are important in a mate? Well, this problem is thankfully not that common, but I’d say that not having a fucking body count attached to you Is pretty important.

I have so many favorites “Someone who isn’t a disease vector,” “Someone who doesn’t have a death toll”… they are truly things of beauty.
Ash Can
With Jay Cutler and his wife announcing that they’re not going to vaccinate their kids, I’m about ready to start rooting for the Packers. And the worst thing is, the asshole just signed a huge-ass contract with the Bears, so he and his shit-for-brains wife are going to be inflicting health hazards on the kids of our city for seven fucking years. Thanks, Bears, you morons.
dedc79
What’s the libertarian answer to the vaccination “debate”? That we should all get polio, smallpox, measles, etc in order to protect Jenny McCarthy’s freedumb?
patrick II
Penn & Teller youtube on vaccinations . NSFW (It is Penn and Teller after all).
dmsilev
@dedc79: Libertarians would say “let the market decide”. So, if you want herd immunity for your kid, it’s up to you to pay the reluctant parents enough to convince them to vaccinate their kids.
muddy
@scav:
Don’t forget fart.
EriktheRed
@Ash Can:
Crap, Jenny McCarthy;s from Chicago, too.
IOW, our city has TWO anti-vax morons.

@patrick II: Just added that to the post. Excellent.
Walker
@patrick II:
Penn and Teller also declare climate change to be BS. Please do not link to those glibertarians.
RareSanity
@SiubhanDuinne:
I would disagree…
I’d say that she learned that making outlandish claims, true or not, lands you lucrative jobs on daytime TV.
dedc79
@Walker: they also had a pretty misleading (bordering on outright dishonest) rant about recycling.
BGinCHI
@Ash Can: Plus he sucks at football.
SiubhanDuinne
@muddy:
Jenny McCarthy does not fart. Jenny McCarthy’s ass whispers in her panties.

Or, go to How do Vaccines Cause Autism? Large font, perhaps best not read at many workplaces.
EriktheRed
Penn Teller’s a glibertarian asshole, but I’m glad to see he’s at least n the right side of this issue.
ruemara
Sincerely, who the fuck takes parenting advice from a woman who’s claim to fame was being a hot nudie girl who was willing make fart jokes? Herd immunity has been protecting too many morons in the gene pool.
jc
@Walker: Thank you. I kept wanting to like P&T, and then I’d see some god-awful right wing rant they put out. I wish they’d just stick to magic.
Roger Moore
@dedc79:
Silence.
muddy
@SiubhanDuinne: I was remembering it was a big thing when I first was aware of her on MTV (my son was in middle school at the time). There was some game show where she was the sexy assistant interacting with the audience, and her part was to be extra sexy by farting.
ETA! She probably does not wear panties.
TR
It’s amazing that The View managed to replace Elizabeth Hasselbeck with someone who’s both dumber and more dangerous to the nations well being.
Roger Moore
@TR:
The really impressive part is that no Republican congresscritters were involved.

@Walker:
Penn had the ultimate response when it was pointed out that all climate scientists came down on one side of the argument. “That may be true but Al Gore is still a jerk.”
Its reasoning like that which puts him in a special class of asshole.
@jc: No, I’d be OK with them being realists if they actually held to the belief that science provides the best answers. But like so many glibertarians they only believe when they want to.
P.S. met them after their Vegas show (a great act BTW) and they really are a couple of inflamed assholes in person. TUrned both my wife & I off from them entirely.
muddy
@TR: Does this mean McCarthy has a future at Fox? Possibly as Bill O’Reilly’s co-host? I’m a little ashamed to say that I might watch that. At least once.
Villago Delenda Est
@dmsilev: The libertarian approach to hitting a patch of glare ice is to “let the market decide” by releasing your hands form the steering wheel and letting the car go where it will.

I don’t know what hurts worse. Jenny is someone’s authority on vaccinations or P&T is the rebuttal.
El Cid
How was this strange idea of vaccination related to the United States’ population by a government which wanted a healthier populace in the 1950s?
Here from the Prelinger Archives is a 1956 educational/PR newsreel explaining how polio devastated people in the US, and how the polio vaccine was created in 1954 and employed in 1955.
From the evil Big Pharma dupes at the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (Eli Lilly & Co.), who schemed to prevent kids from getting polio.
If only former Playboy models who make lousy movies had more influence then we could have avoided the horrors of all those non-crippled kids.
RaflW
This has become a terrible hot potato in my partner’s family. His sister is an anti-vaxxer. It makes us crazy, but we just stay out of it. The grandparents weigh in from time to time and – of course, fights ensue.
People like Jenny make it easier for everyday schlubs like my future sis-in-law to think what they’re doing to their kid(s) is OK.
Which, Jenny, is not OK. Got it?
ETA: one of my dad’s best friends had polio, and survived and lived a pretty good life. But he was clearly disabled, it most likely shortened his life, and he was one of the lucky ones, as it were. I’m about 5 years older than future sis-in-law. I’m not sure if she ever knew someone well, personally, who had polio.
Scares the crapola out of me. It should scare any parent, for g-d’s sake.
Just One More Canuck
@Ash Can: it would be hilarious if the Bears terminated his contract because he was a health threat to the rest of the team

So I followed the link Citizen_X provided and found myself at this site:
http://jennymccarthybodycount.com/Anti-Vaccine_Body_Count/Home.html
… where I was doubly amused to read this in the FAQ:
“Q: Why did you change the name of the website?”
Read the answer. Would love to know if I’ve slid off into some Bizarro universe.
RaflW
@dmsilev:
OK. Well along those lines, I’m fine with creating gated communities. And Jenny and her vax-libertine pals can damn well live outside the gates, all medieval-like.
I’m sure the “bring out your dead” cart will be a swell Range Rover, but the dead will still be dead.
El Cid
By the way, “what libertarians care about” is a non-category as far as motivating anyone else to care about that point.
So what? Who gives a fuck if libertarians object to it?
It’s one thing to find a point made by someone (and it doesn’t matter who makes it, libertarian or otherwise) which makes sense to you.
But this notion that we need to give a shit about the values and sensitivities of ‘libertarians’ per se is insane and extended with such little justifications to few other groups.
Ash Can
@Just One More Canuck: I fucking wish they would. I hope he sucks so badly next season that the Bears are forced to cut him and eat his contract. Being that fucking stupid should hurt.
Xantar
@El Cid:
But don’t you see? By criticizing my views in any way, you are violating my right to believe what I want.
I have a Constitutionally guaranteed right to believe that redheads should do everything while balancing on one foot. So if you’re a ginger, you’d better be hopping or else you’re violating my rights and I WILL SUE!!

@SiubhanDuinne:

JR in WV
Anyone who declines to vaccinate their kids should be imprisoned for neglect, and their kids should be adopted out to medical staff. And fully immunized.
Lee
@JR in WV: That is a charity (taking kids from anti-vaccers) that I could certainly support.

We have a measles advisory in my city because some dim bulb was apparently travelling and brought it back, then went all over the south end of the city shedding virus. The last outbreak before this one was in 1994.
An academic paper tells me Canada was attempting to eradicate measles by 2005. Thanks, Jenny, Andy, JFK Jr., and the rest of the gang…
Someguy
We should be thanking Jenny McCarthy for her work on the environment. Polio, TB, whooping cough and measles were all endangered species before she started her groundbreaking work to protect them…
Jamey
@Walker: Thank you. I support the search for a vaccine to cure whatever caused Penn Jillette to be such an arrogant twat.
