Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

In after Baud. Damn.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Petty moves from a petty man.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Republicans in disarray!

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

A different sort of madness: Via some folks in the LG&M comments, it <a href="darkdungeonsthemovie.com/#updates"appears that someone is making a movie out of a Jack Chick tract. And not just any tract, it’s the infamous “Dungeons and Dragons will lead you to practice Satanic witchcraft” classic from the 80s. And they seem to be playing it straight.

    From the FAQ:

Have people have committed suicide due to RPGs?

No cases of RPG-related suicides have been proven in court. However, that does not mean that it doesn’t happen. For all we know, BIG-GAMING may just be very good at covering them up.

I heard that C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien influenced the first RPGs. Are they OK?

    Dark Dungeons the movie has researched the work of those noted and possibly pagan authors, as their works can both be found in occult bookstores and may be part of the witchcraft bible;

Ha. I started the day by driving up the Clemson for an 11am tipoff with my Illini. We lost by 1 after being way down but I had a good time. I couldn’t believe they drew 10,000 for an NIT game on a Sunday morning! The Shocker’s drawing Kentucky in the second round sucked but that’s the luck of the DRAW! Hope the Clones can pull it out and it looks like Mercer will come down to earth. On the upside I won a bunch of money in the calcutta by buying American U and them being the biggest loser in the first round.

I have a first world problem of the highest order. I have an iPod Nano (Fifth Generation) that I use exclusively in my car. A few years ago I scanned my CD collection into iTunes on my laptop. I would listen to those mainly in my office. When I got the iPod, I copied all of the CDs there. So far so good. Now, I also bought a few albums from the iTunes store and put those onto the iPod. I noticed that when those songs play, I can see the album artwork on the display screen in the car. One night I used iTunes to download artwork for my old CDs. At least half of them have artwork. I synched the iPod, but for some reason the artwork only shows up for the songs I bought on iTunes. I poked around google, but did not really find anything useful. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Life will go on just fine for me if I don’t solve this “problem”, but I would be interested to see if there is a simple fix.

@dmsilev: When my kid was 10, I sent him to day camp at a community college, and one activity he could sign up for was RPG. The camp called me and wanted to be sure I knew it wasn’t some sort of play acting therapy, but rather was D&D and that I was ok with it. At the time, I thought that was one of the weirder calls I’d ever had.

@SiubhanDuinne: This is the cobwebbiest house I’ve ever lived in, although I very rarely see an actual spider. Anyway, on 1 October I stop sweeping away cobwebs, and by Halloween I have a pretty good display of the most realistic cobwebs you ever saw.

Before I go to bed on Halliween night I put the long hose on the vacuum cleaner and vacuum up all those (real) cobwebs, and the place always seems sort of bare and dejected.

    @dmsilev:

Have people have committed suicide due to RPGs?

I think the weapon of choice for suicidal people is a gun of some kind, and not a rocket-propelled grenade. The former are much easier to get compared to the latter.

OT James Rebhorn, a character died on Friday and may he rest in peace. It will be interesting to see how Homeland handles this since he was suppose to care for Carey’s baby.

@raven: Friends are big Clemson fans and I was told about the crowd. They also were selling adult tickets at ten dollars each and children tickets at four. Mr. Clemson fan mentioned that the families who were able to attend had a great time.

And I would really like to know why fvcking Steve Jobs’s minions are always trying to change my words–wanted to change “cobwebbiest” to “cobweb jest,” for example–but when I make an honest-to-God typo in “Halloween,” it sails right through.

3 of the top 4 teams I want to see go out of the tournament are now going home.
Duke, UNC and Kansas are dust. Another will go out for sure next week since
Louisville and Kentucky play each other. Now if someone would take down Florida.
I would be a happy man.
In the women’s tournament, the refs put the screws to Tennessee-Martin to keep UNC
going. I am sure we will have a UConn vs Notre Dame final like ESPN wants. The
NCAA won’t let anything else happen.
