Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Everybody saw this coming.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Chutkan laughs. Lauro sits back down.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Donald Trump, welcome to your everything, everywhere, all at once.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Nikki Haley, who can’t acknowledge ‘slavery’, is a pathetic shill.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Somebody needs to explain to DeSantis that nobody needs to do anything to make him look bad.

Second rate reporter says what?

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Apparently we needed a pet pic, at least according to the last comments section. So here you go:

twolittlepiggies

Please remember this picture when you see 20 lb Lily next to 22 lb Steve and want to call Steve fat. He’s not fat. He’s massive. He’s magnificent.

Were you ever able to get Tunch and Lily like that? I remember the first shots of them laying back to back.

Welcome news:With little fanfare, Iran has taken faster steps than required to comply with an interim nuclear deal that substantially limits its capacity to make a nuclear weapon.
    [snip]
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has completely diluted half its stockpile of 20 percent enriched uranium to lower levels. It has also converted more than half the remaining stockpile for use as nuclear fuel – rendering it almost useless for any weapon application.

That means Iran has cut by some 75 percent a stockpile that stood just above 200 kilograms in January. That was already below the 250 kilograms necessary to make a single nuclear device if enriched further to above 90 percent purity. The details of the monthly IAEA update were reported by the Associated Press and Reuters from Vienna, though the report has not yet been made public. Source

I saw your boy Edward Snowden had a photo op with Putin today after playing sock puppet for him on Russian state television.

Your photo skills have gone retrograde. Steve is magnificent, but the fuzzy is too fuzzy. Also, too, someone asked if I’d like a new born kitten from a feral cat litter. The idea of a pine tree tail little fuzzikins is strangely appealing.

I’m sure somebody else has this already, but Gabriel Garcia Marquez straight up died and shit, so let’s all read his most famous story.

I know you might not all read/listen to what I posted. He ends with a quote from Murrow. Well Edward R Murrow:

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men – not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular”

    He was a rock star!

My young cat Ocean is settling in nice to the new home, relaxing on the bed and enjoying better window views.

Her kitteh Mal – the one of the litter I kept, the other five were dropped off at the Lakeland SPCA and one (Inara) may already be adopted out – is a furball of energy, attacking every powercord like they’re stringy toys.

Our longhair Fiona is a good-sized kitty and dwarfs our other shorthair cat, Gracie. Fiona weighs twelve pounds and is a chunk, so I cannot imagine another ten pounds on her.

    But Steve, he’s awesome.

What’s this he’s-not-fat jibberjabber? My dad had a cat like Steve that was so big he tangled with the raccoons at night. I have a cat now that’s a little overweight but she’s also just big. Two of my cats were over 20 lbs. Sometimes cats are big now that we feed them more nutritious foods and take better care of them.
