Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Books are my comfort food!

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

The willow is too close to the house.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Stand up, dammit!

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

The Official Washington Post Response to Their Editorial Board’s Awfulness

This post is in: Assholes, Our Failed Media Experiment

FacebookTweetEmail

For reals:

@froomkin @Johngcole WaPo editorial board knows how to spell "hemorrhaging."

— Charles Lane (@ChuckLane1) May 29, 2014

the washington post has never printed a typo

— Atrios (@Atrios) May 29, 2014

Once again, DougJ from 2009 will never be wrong:

I’m watching Monica Crowley and Pat Buchanan on the McLaughlin group and so help me God, I am praying for a dirty bomb in Georgetown.

These people will destroy us all.

Don’t be fooled by Obama — we are fucked.

Sociopaths. Although the spelling error misdirect is a more pedantic “OMG BLOGGERS USE FOUR LETTER WORDS,” so props to Chuckie for that.

And yes, this really happened. Why every blog does not have an “Our Failed Media Experiment” tag is beyond me.

A pet peeve of mine is people who correct grammar on texts tweets and blogs as a method of demonstrating their own brilliance (this is especially prominent with there their and they’re). I know whats right on most things but occasionally I’ll be typing fast and fuck up, knowing a few basic grammar rules and being able to spell certain words does not make you a fucking genius.

Cuz numbers are hard and Nate Silver has teh Ghey

Chuck Lane said Romney would outright win Florida (O by +1), Virginia (O by +4), and Colorado (O by +6) and marked as toss-ups states Wisconsin (O by +7)(!), Iowa (O by +5), and New Hampshire (O by +6).

    dmsilev

    May 29, 2014 at 6:31 pm

And Mr. Lane doesn’t seem to understand (or at least is pretending not to understand) that proofreading and spellchecking standards vary somewhat depending on the medium. For an article destined to a professional journal, I’ll proofread the living shit out of it, and probably a couple of my colleagues will do the same just in case I missed something. For an internal document, I’ll read it over once or twice to make sure there aren’t any glaring howlers. For a comment to a blog post, as long as there aren’t any red squiggly lines, I’m good. For a fucking tweet…

@David Koch: What’s hilarious is that Obama won Ohio 51-48. So the poll was actually quite accurate. Yeah, 51 is closer to 50 than 45 is to 48, but doesn’t really matter because neither 45 nor 48 gets you the win and while Mitt overperformed the poll, so did Obama. Whatever, Obama won Ohio easy, which is something Mitt’s pollsters, Charles Lane, or the skewed polls nuts would have never predicted or expected, because all are reality denying fucking morons.

@Lurking Canadian: the parenthesis are my short hand annotation of the actual results. For example, he said Wisconsin was a toss-up, but actual result was an Obama win by 7 points. Point well taken, but as one such corrector myself, I think there’s a big difference between significant errors and mere typos. For example: the NRA-led fictional reinterpretation of the Second Amendment rests on the fact that they don’t know what an “absolute clause” is.
    blogs.denverpost.com/opinion/2013/02/12/a-grammar-lesson-for-gun-nuts-second-amendment-does-not-guar…

And this moron at Breitbart doesn’t understand that “infringe” is not a synonym of “regulate”, even when that has just been explained to him by an articulate second-amendment advocate, Dick Metcalf.
    breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2013/11/05/Guns-Ammo-Editor-All-Constitutional-Rights-Need-Regulation-2…

Metcalf was fired for writing that column, or in other words, because a lot of his readers don’t think grammar means anything.
