If Soonergrunt swings by this thread and is a roundball fan, perhaps you’d like to share the OKC view on Russell Westbrook. Seems to me an incredible talent (UCLA Dude here, some bias admitted) but, damn, he is prone to some incredible brain cramps. End of OT last night, down 4, he jacks up a 3 that not only doesn’t hit the rim, it almost missed the backboard. Can’t recall a worse result on a big shot right now…
…anyway, Brooks should clearly be fired (but he might survive). I just wonder how long it will take RW to stop the wacky shit. He’s far too good a player….

There is an old joke about prisoners getting so used to telling the same jokes that they started using numbers, and could make on another laugh by calling “19” or “27” or “82”.
One day, when I have the time, I want to organize and identify all the old debunked bullshit that gets circulated out there, so when some troll or blogger comes along and recycles a thrice disproven claim or argument we could just dismiss him with a “Oh yeah, we heard 63 before” and link him to a refutation. I would save a lot of time, in the end.

@xenos: I heard it with “the comedians convention” but yours works too.
So one day a new [prisoner] after hearing how often “62” makes everybody laugh, tries it himself. “62” he says. Nobody laughs. “62” again. Grim silence. One more time: “62”. Finally he gives up and sadly turns away. One of his fellow [prisoners] taps him on the shoulder and whispers, “you told it wrong”.

Has there ever been anything more juvenile than the “Fockers” movies, I mean the entire premise was based upon Americans two year old selves thinking they were getting something over on someone. @The Dangerman: I have no idea what will happen in OKC, but agree that Brooks has to go if they are to improve. If some coach could get RW’s attention and focus some of that energy and strength, that would be dangerous. They seem to say that making him cut down the stupid things would also cut down the energy and risk taking.
The only reason I have heard for keeping Brooks is that those guys play HARD for him, in spite of his not really being able to make them better. Or have plays, or manage timeouts at the end of games, or …
Can you imagine how good they would have been if Jackson and Adams had not been mostly benched for Perkins and Sefolosha? Until the Spurs ( and the Clippers) made it clear how useless those two were.

Remember that the SC GOP folks are the ones who spread the rumor about Johnny Walnuts (R-Palin Enabler) having a black child (in fact an adopted child from Bangladesh, IIRC, FWIW). I recently added my older, better equipped downtown YMCA to my membership for a whopping 4 bucks a month. It’s close to my office so I can more easily work out in the am and pop straight in, has heavy punching bags (GREAT exercise) , more fitness equipment, people who work out and actually sweat, steam, sauna, a chilled pool with very few kids, and racquetball courts, which I always thought looked fun.
I just ordered heavy bag training gloves and racquetball stuff off Amazon.
Another thing I appreciate – there are adult locker rooms and family locker rooms. There was recently a bit of dumbshittery at my exurban Y, where a guy cluelessly brought his daughters into the male locker room, the oldest maybe 6 or 7. That wasn’t fair to anybody; one old guy was standing naked when asshole walked in – he was pretty mad.

As to your locker room comment, I get it. I am that guy that showers at a health club. I am not that proud of my body, but I don’t have any problem getting nude and taking a shower. Walking around nude.

@Cacti:
The ACLU does a wonderful, utterly necessary job. That does not mean they’re right about anything. Going way too far may even be built in and virtuous as an organization, because they’re supposed to pull against people going way too far on the other side. So at the same time, what a twit, and yet his very twitness makes him useful.
EDIT – Snowden is a perfect example. I could not have less regard for Snowden, and I don’t think he deserves journalistic or whistleblower protections, because neither defines what he did. HOWEVER, I absolutely would want the ACLU to defend him, and do it zealously. Someone should argue for that side in court to help balance the system.
Tommy
@gene108: I almost want to say fuck you. First off I don’t think at 43 I am “old”. I can’t even believe I am coming out on this end, but it is a freaking health club. If you can’t get somewhat nude, to shower or head into the sauna then WTF. Now agreed it always seems like older people that are walking around nude. I tend to use this thing called a towel and don’t always just walk around nude. But again it is a gosh darn health club!
Baud
@Cacti:
He’s probably right about that. MLK was kind of treated with kid gloves, IMHO.
Keith G
@D58826: Ya know, technically, there should be a hearing if there is actually is a question about laws being violated. That would be the prudent thing to do if the motive was to find if law or process needs to be changed.
Obviously, that is a motive that most likely does not exists with this GOP. I doubt the Benghazi crowd would want a Bowe Bergdahl hearing to go on and steal their pretend mojo. If a hostile Bergdahl hearing is started, I doubt it would last much longer than it would take Chuck Hagel and the Joint Chiefs (the latter in uniforms and ribbons) to put the Congress critters in their place.
Some fights are very worth having and should be welcomed and not avoided.

Sometimes the ACLU does a stellar job, like when they hired my boss to challenge the Pender County Sheriff because he fired a dispatcher because she was unmarried and living with her boyfriend. The Sheriff cited an archaic NC law that made living together without being married a misdemeanor.
We won. Of course it helped that the judge that ruled on the case lived with his wife before he married her.

Having experienced a variety of settings throughout the years, from very private country clubs, to fitness centers, to high school athletic locker rooms (first as an athlete and then a coach) cohorts older than me tended to give this scant notice; while, cohorts younger than me seem to get progressively more concerned about the covered/not covered issue.

I’m getting on to being old and I’ve known gay people(related to one!) for over 40 yrs. I don’t think that is it. Most of us don’t look like the sort of human that would be asked to appear in a movie sans clothing but at some point I think you just cease caring about it. Some at a very young age, my experience is at about 25 for most of us. Some never. The military is a great place to lose that if you hadn’t already. At least when I was in every thing you do is out in the open, shower, sleep, poop, walk around. There are/were no stalls, partitions etc. On board ship, the living conditions were even closer than boot camp. Shyness, properness, they get lost pretty fast. Or as one fella found out who refused to take a shower among the others, gets removed. Forcefully.
