Dr. Paul Roof has facial hair that is the envy of hipsters far and wide. But it also got him fired. Roof, who was a professor of sociology at small Christian school Charleston Southern University was terminated last week after his likeness appeared on a beer can for Holy City Brewing. The image was taken from a photograph snapped at a beard competition in New Orleans. He received no compensation for the image and it was done without his consent.
He was told he was fired because his actions weren’t considered ” representative of a Christian environment.” Roof responded: “For me a Christian environment entails two things: looking out for other people and forgiveness of others who’ve transgressed you.”
Pretty sure there are some government officials that could benefit from that mantra.
#TeamBlackness also discussed whether you should lose custody of your child if you suffer from mental illness, Google’s diversity problem, and work opportunities for rehabilitated criminals.

They have sociology classes there???
RP
Silly Dr. Roof-expecting Christians to act like Christians. Also too, if his likeness was used without his knowledge and consent, he’s got a slam-dunk case for compensation from the brewery.

So being photographed without your knowledge or consent is now sinful? Man, that’s some severely fucked-up theological reasoning! I mean, it’s not as if the guy actually worshipped his own graven image or anything!
sm*t cl*de
I confidently predict that if any brewery obtains images of the Departmental Dean and of the university’s trustees, and uses those on beer labels, then those people will also lose their jobs.
Kickstarter?

Beardie professor sounds admirable:

@Morzer (0th of His PseudoName and Founder of the Walter Sobchak Peacekeepers):
It appears he was in a contest and signed a model contract — which means he has no control over where the image gets used. Still pretty f’d up here.

@RP: Yeah, that’s nuts. Although that beer bottle label, including name is inspired.
South Carolina keeps begging to be taken seriously and they keep acting so ignorant.

Being a bearded Christian never works out. Look what happened to Jesus.

So NOT a Christian, but to me firing person A for things other People B-Z did, that’s so Christian it would make Jesus cry.

@gocart mozart:
As I understand, the traditional depiction in Western art of Jesus as a tall skinny white man with long hair and a beard is most likely wrong on all of those specifics except “skinny” (maybe) and “man”.

Keep up keeping up #ablackshow sir.

@Walker: You’d think the beer company would at least give him a couple of cases.
Paul in KY
@Amir Khalid: I think he would have looked very Aramaic & what is referred to over here as ‘swarthy’ (skin complexion) and what probably is referred to in Malaysia as ‘normal’.
Probably was only 5′ 2″ as well.
