Sorry for the short notice, here’s Redshift:
We will be at Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub, 713 King Street, near the corner of Columbus Street.
There is a free shuttle from the King Street Metro, the Old Town Trolley. It only runs until 10:15 on weeknights, but we’ll have enough locals with cars to get people back to the Metro.
Murphy’s has great food in addition to drinks.
We have a table reserved upstairs under the name “Balloon Juice”. I’ll be there by 7, and I’ll try to pick up a green balloon, but our spot shouldn’t be hard to find.
Hope to see everyone there! (Well, everyone local who’s expressed interest, at least.)
ETA: “RE tomorrow night: there was interest in meeting up at Busboys and Poets in DC (14th and V NW?), so anyone who is local and wants to organize that one — go for it. “
DeeLoralei
Yay! We will get there as soon as we can as close to 7 as possible!!
karen
I can’t go tonight because of a lack of a car. Are we also meeting up tomorrow night?
Elizabelle
And right on schedule: thunderstorms. (Positive side: it will cool off.)
But do come on out! Murphy’s is on King Street between North Washington Street (aka what the GW Parkway becomes) and South Columbus Street. It’s about a block from the Austin Grill, and not so far from Christ Church, if that gives you bearings.
The free trolley from Metro allegedly runs every 15 minutes until 10:15 p (too early).

And it’s 40 cent wing night tonight, until close!

Crap, I wish I could make!
I know Murphy’s well; a couple of old college buddies and I used to have a New Year’s Day tradition of beginning the year with a hangover cure at Murphy’s that consisted of 1 part Shepard’s Pie and 3-4 parts black and tan pints.
Have a great time!
Baud
I will get drunk in solidarity with all of you.
DeeLoralei
@Elizabelle: I’ll do that. Go to it, I mean. I couldn’t organize lol
Elizabelle
@DeeLoralei: Hope to be en route to join you all in a few.
Save some brews for me! Ciao.
eemom
Sorry I couldn’t make it tonight. Hope y’all have a great time!
gogol's wife
@eemom:
Hi eemom — haven’t seen you much here lately.
Tommy
You guys and gals have fun!
Many years ago I lived in “old town.” Is the Laughing Lizard still there?
max
I’d have gone but it’s a hour and a half drive even on a good day.
max
[‘Hope ya’ll are havin’ a good time.’]
Redshift
@Elizabelle: We’re upstairs in the back!
Violet
Have fun!
JPL
Have a great time and keeping with balloon juice tradition, post some pictures.
DeeLoralei
Leaving to join you guys now! See you soon
seabe
On the trolley now. Worked later than I anticipated.
Elizabelle
Just talked to Redshift. He and 5 others are holding down a table in the back on the 2nd floor — them and their beers — and Dee Loralei is missing in action.
Find them, Dee!
Finally about to take off. Into the rain. And the fun.
Mike in NC
A pub crawl in Old Town Alexandria is a great time. One of the few things we missed about leaving NoVA.
Elizabelle
For those who can’t make it, maybe we’ll consider this a practice run. And do another meetup, with more notice, in a few weeks. And there’s the DC meetup tomorrow night, if that gets organized.
However, how to top last night’s news to celebrate?
Saw a clip of Nancy Pelosi walking through a hallway. She was asked what she thought.
“The people have spoken.”
Elizabelle
@Tommy:
I have never heard of the Laughing Lizard. Is that a test?
seabe
Hmm where are they?
Mike in NC
@Elizabelle: The GOP will draw the obvious wrong conclusion from the Fall of Cantor and decide they aren’t quite extreme enough, especially on the subject of immigration. Anybody who looks like they may have a Hispanic last name will be subject to being shot on sight. Let the outreach continue.
Violet
@Elizabelle: Love Nancy SMASH! Are you going to toast Cantor’s loss?
Elizabelle
@Violet:
For you too. And both your parents, and all of the packages you’ve been carrying.
Wish you could be here, and wish Valdivia would show. To see.
Pogonip
Now, you kids behave yourselves. For once.
SiubhanDuinne
Sounds like such fun! Hope you all have a great time, and, like JPL, I will look forward to seeing pictures.
Violet
@Elizabelle: Thanks! Wish I could be there too. Sounds like fun. I had an afternoon off today and fell asleep on the sofa. I never do that. I know I must be tired.
Saw someone about my shoulder today. I think it’s better but we’ll see going forward.
NotMax
Order something with pineapple to celebrate Kamehameha Day.
Pogonip
@NotMax: And lift a toast to his majesty! (Kamehameha. Not Steve.)
Poopyman
One of these days I’ll make a DC meetup, and Old Town is one of the best places for me (and Elmo, for that matter) to get into and out of from Southern MD.
Have fun, and take pics!
Mike in NC
@NotMax: Now you remind me that we never had a better Mai Tai than the one served on Waikiki Beach while watching the sun setting.
karen
@Elizabelle:
Sounds good. Hope to see you all there.

I’m un lurking to lament that I can’t make it tonight! Live in NOVA, but in San Diego right now. Next time!
Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et al.)
Just got back from Mumphrey’s Irish Pub, which can’t even spell its own name on its sign. Or its menus. Or anything, really anything. Odd.
NotMax
Worst name for an Irish bar ever is this one, which is a college student hang-out on Long Island.
hamletta
Sorry I missed y’all tonight. I had a Drupal Meetup, and I live on the other end of the Red Line, near Gaithersburg.
I might could make tomorrow night in DC, as I’ve decided not to sing this Sunday so that I can do a town thing, and so could blow off choir rehearsal.
sharl
Just got back from the get-together. We were kicked out of the second floor ever so gently, apparently a bit beyond closing time for that section. I needed to get home, and the rest of the folks went to the bar downstairs to finish their drinks.
A nice evening with some lovely folks.
seabe
Eliabelle was a doll and did a wonderful job coordinating. Thanks everyone!
Uncle Cosmo
So can we get a roll call on who’s up for Busboys & Poets Thursday night? I could MARC down for an early evening meetup (last train northbound is at 10:30 PM) but would be highly torqued to make the trek & end up drinking alone.
Elizabelle
@Poopyman:
That is cool about Alexandria being easy for southern Maryland Juicers. Would be lovely to meet you and M/M Elmo.
Elizabelle
@seabe:
It was so lovely to meet you! And Redshift did the honors re organizing Murphy’s.
We must do another meetup. It were fun.
