Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let me file that under fuck it.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Late Night Open Thread

Long day today, and I am looking for a long night of sleep.

Steve is really super happy since getting groomed. He had to have been hot and miserable. Tomorrow he goes to the vet for his annual check-up and Lily is going to get her nails trimmed. I’m also taking everything out of my home office and GI-ing the place and then making a coherent plan for all these damned wires.

Life in the fast lane

    Gling the place? I did a search but didn’t come up with anything that fit very well.

    The wires will be happy. Coherency and Glinging — the two keys to happy wires?

    So my car took a giant shit today while my coworker and I were driving back from a meeting. It was 3:30 in the afternoon on a Phoenix summer day. I managed to get off the freeway and get into a parking lot. Had to push the car (while wearing dress clothes and heels) into the parking spot.

    I have something happening tomorrow that is kind of a big deal. Kind of freaking out.

    @Suzanne: Well damn. Mine did too. Luckily it was later in the day, 8 ish. Barely made it into the parking lot, a nice gentleman at a one of the restaurants in the plaza helped me push it into a parking spot. Work clothes on as well. Close enough for me to walk home though (with a bag of ice).

    I’ve got power but it just cuts off after you start it. Ugggh. Anyhoo, from one Phoenix struggle to another, I hope your Friday makes up for this bullshit and that the car issues are easily and cheaply fixed.

    @JordanRules: Ugh. My sympathies.

    The transmission crapped out last summer and we got it rebuilt. It’s under warranty, but it started acting up a few weeks ago, and they said they fixed it. And now the transmission died AGAIN. I am at almost 200K miles, so it is probably the end. Sigh. I love that car.

    Gonna be thankful for the good AC I had in it this year I suppose.

    Steve is really super happy since getting groomed. He had to have been hot and miserable.

    Being as Steve is a Maine Coon, more likely than “hot” (overheated) is that he’d accumulated a bunch of micro-mats at the skin level, despite your best Germanic efforts to furminate him, which were pulling at his skin. MC coats “felt” quicker than poodle cords (dreadlocks) and they seem to produce more sebum than your average cat, too. Much as he resisted the bath, he probably appreciates having that tongue-resistant patina of wax, wool scales & crud removed… at least in retrospect.

    I went to some place called Safari West today. Wound up spending 12 hours with my co-workers, not bad folks but not really who I’d spend 12 hours with. but I did get some nice pictures, before I accidentally lost most of them. Whoops.

    I had 2 people try to kill me in the space of about 10 seconds. First a woman decided that she could just cross the double yellow into the car pool lane, screw anyone in her way. A few seconds later some asshole in his jacked up pickup swerved into the lane while looking in his mirror, I believe he was trying to hit me. May they both be struck down with ebola. Or DIAF, either way would be suitable.

    I see that Village got John’s meaning but we can’t be the only two. When mine is at it’s worse a GI party won’t do, nuclear weapons are the only solution.

    @Suzanne:

    That’s never fun.
    Though as I am a guy, I’ve never had to push a car while wearing heels.

    That said, I did have a busted radiator hose that I was replacing for a family (they later told me that they were from Indy on the way to a funeral in Kentucky) stranded on the highway unfold from where I tucked it up and dump a gallon of warm antifreeze on my head.

    When I finished, they insisted on paying for both a hotel where I could take a shower and for my time, but since it was here in Evansville, I just told them I lived a few miles from US 41, and if that they ever ran into someone else stranded and could lend a hand to do so.

    Other than the faceful of antifreeze, the worst time was spent finding an auto parts store that carried an upper radiator hose for a 1974 Vega.
    We drove in my car to three places before we found one that had the hose in stock.

    While I’m not that much of a good Christian, I do believe in the concept of Karma.
    IOW, treat others like you would have others treat you.

    That said, if you’re a good looking mature woman, I’m sure I would have found the picture of you pushing a car while wearing a dress and heels to be fascinating. :)

    Like I tell my friends, I knew I was old when I’d see a young hottie and think to myself ‘I wonder if her mother is single?’.

    I bathe two of my three cats on the regular. They don’t love it, but they tolerate it. I’m allergic to them and it makes everyone’s lives better. The third one is generally immaculate and I don’t seem to react as much to him, so he only gets bathed when he pees in his carrier on the way to the vet. Way to make a bad day even worse for him, eh?

    Some places are worse than others but I’ve never been anyplace in the world where even a majority are above the level of OK drivers. Now I have been in places where if there were 20% OK that would amaze me. In LA the news is that it is better than it was 40 yrs ago, by a lot. Many more people and it’s still better. At that time every day was a maze run with the winners being the ones alive at the end of the day. Now it’s mostly just lots of people of varying skill and more important, attention levels. Ten minutes after the above incidents I saw a girl ahead of me drift in and out of her lane just missing the car next to her. Of course as I then went by 2 lanes over she was, wait for it, texting.
