Thesis: Rick Perry is a fundamentally honest man who is just too dumb to understand ethics.
— Noah Smith (@Noahpinion) August 15, 2014
Paradoxically, getting indicted moved him from 8th to 6th in the latest straw poll of likely GOP primary voters. HE'S A MARTYR, they explain
— norbizness (@norbizness) August 15, 2014
Being indicted will help Rick Perry in 2016. In fact, not being indicted will end up being a seriously liability in the GOP primary.
— LOLGOP (@LOLGOP) August 16, 2014
Big ups to @BobbyJindal for being only @the_RGA chair in recent years who isn't under indictment/investigation!!! #2016 #Momentum

“I always made one prayer to God, a very short one. Here it is: “O Lord, make our enemies quite ridiculous!” God granted it.” – Voltaire
Everything You Need to Know* About Rick Perry’s Newest Scandal

Apart from pointing & mocking, what’s on the agenda today?

And then God laughed and made those who would vote for my enemies ridiculous as well. Thanks, God.

Latest I’ve slept in the past 10 days.
I’m loading the car with scuba stuff and driving to the hinterlands so I can go through dry suit training in a 45-50 degree set of thermoclines in an unusually deep quarry lake.
There will be some aspects of suck to this, but mostly fun.
TheMightyTrowel
Just saw guardians of the Galaxy for the second time and celebrated with a lovely porter from a new local micro brewery. Perfect Saturday evening.
Tommy
A few weeks ago I found out I needed glasses. Mom saw me with them the first time and said to me, “those are Rick Perry” glasses. Both funny and pissed me off.

In case no one saw/heard, it’s final.
And the most ludicrous tidbit:

@hilts: The Who didn’t play at Woodstock?

The GOP will do what the GOP does. I am much more worried about our nomination process. Who will we select? If we go on to select the person mainly based on a perception that she/he is powerful enough to win in the general, what does he/she actually believe in? What will be the hard-fought domestic priorities? Will we have a process that allows the citizens on the ground to inform the nominee about the desires of the non-elite voters?
It’s not about them (the GOP). It’s about us.
Re Ferguson: The always interesting Slate Political Gabfest recorded an “All criminal Justice” edition on Thursday. The Brown case is just a starting point as it move onto related issues. This was recorded Thursday, so it is not up to date, but since they focus more on background and similar issues, the record date is not a big problem.
Edit…Forgot the link.

The Who. Woodstock.
I had 2 weeks to go, I was so short I could parachute off a dime!
raven
I was so short I had to stand on a stepladder to kiss and ants ass.
Scott
I live in Texas and am no Rick Perry fan but this is all pretty weak stuff.

OT: It occurred to me last night that there was no report of Robin Williams leaving a suicide note. I’m not suggesting foul play, but I was wondering if that’s unusual in suicides.

Thanks for that link. I can never get enough the Who. I wish I could have been there.
Skerry
@Baud: Don’t know any statistics, but my friend who killed himself did not leave a note.

@Scott: Yup. I don’t see a conviction coming any time soon. In fact trying to convince a person convicted of a DWI to resign, seems reasonable. I understand the law but, imo, most jury members will be sympathetic to his cause.

Prepping for another triathlon tomorrow. Theres a bridge on the course with wooden slats. Im praying they’ll mat over an area for the bikes, otherwise I foresee numerous potential tire issues…

@raven
As you’re aware, we are contemporaries.
Keeping that in mind, have never yet come across anyone else of our generation who is able to say his parents went to Woodstock.
I was working at my summer job way out in the boonies of northeastern PA – no opportunity to get away.

@Punchy: Good luck!

Plan to see GoG tomorrow, today is lunch with an old friend who’s now living in Austin.

@JPL:
It’s a bit different when said person is investigating one of your pet projects which is widely accused of graft and corruption. I imagine the prosecution is going to hammer that point.
OzarkHillbilly
And you thought football was tough sport, Two players die at world chess event in Norway.
Baud
@OzarkHillbilly:
I’ll stick with checkers.

The jokes, they write themselves.
Now if Perry had been indicted on grounds of being an all-round douche rocket, his best bet would be throwing himself on the mercy of the court.
Suffern ACE
@OzarkHillbilly: I used to be a big fan, but I grew tired about reading about what the players do to themselves to compete. Modern day gladiators they are. Plus no one knows where all the collegiate chess money goes, bit it sure ain’t the grandmasters getting their share.
NotMax
Under the news radar here, but keep a weather eye on Pakistan unrest.
OzarkHillbilly
@Baud: I have known 2 suicides and one attempted. None of them left a note.

@Baud
Frankly (but no diss on you) it’s really none of our business unless the family elects to make a public statement.

@Tommy:
They were on second.
Abbot: Guess Who’s on first .
Costello: Who?
Abbott: Not Who. Guess Who. Who’s on second.
Costello: Wait a minute. Who’s on first?
Abbott: Guess Who.
Costello: Who?
Abbott: No. They’re second. Guess Who’s on first.
Costello: That’s what I’m trying to do! Look, after the first group plays and you write them a check, who gets the money?
Abbott: No. Why should Who get the money? Guess Who gets the money!
Costello: The band that’s playing first. Who are they?
Abbott: No, The Band is playing third. Guess Who is playing first.
Costello: Who?
Abbott and Costello together: They’re playing second!
Costello: Let me try again. The band plays, right?
Abbott: Right. Of course The Band plays.
Costello: So who is onstage?
Abbott: No. Why should Who be onstage if The Band is playing?
Costello: Who is onstage while the band is playing?
Abbott: No, Who is backstage while The Band is playing.
Costello: I’m not going if you’re not going to tell me who is playing.
Abbott: You don’t like them?
Costello: Who?
Abbott: Most people like them.
Costello: Can you at least tell me which group is playing LAST?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: Who?
Abbott: No, they’re second.
Costello: Who is playing last?
Abbott: No. Who is second. Yes is last.
Costello: Who?
Abbott: No, Yes.
Costello: Do you have a contract from the band that’s playing last?
Abbott: I do. Yes.
Costello: So it’s who?
Abbott: No. I already told you; Who is playing second.
Costello: The contract is signed by who?
Abbott: No. Why should it be signed by Who?
Costello: Who signs it then?
Abbott: No, Yes signs it.
Costello: This is nuts! Guess Who’s on first, Who is on second, the Band is on third, and Yes is on fourth!
Abbott: You finally got it right!
Costello: I don’t even know what I’m saying! Forget it.
Abbott: Forget it?
Costello: Right. I’m not going if you won’t tell me who’s playing; and if you say they’re playing second, I’ll sock you one!
Abbott: OK! OK! So what will you do instead of coming to the concert?
Costello: I think I’ll go to Boston.
Abbott: Oh. We couldn’t sign them!
Amir Khalid
It just goes to show, the Republican party seems to be fine with stupidity and/or crookedness as long as you hew to the party line.
The English Premier League has begun! Where is our friend Randinho?
Mike J
@Amir Khalid: Man U 0 1 Swansea !
Amir Khalid
@Mike J:
Let’s see what United do in the second half. I wouldn’t fancy being in their shoes if they lose the first home match of the season. A hairdrier treatment from Louis van Gaal will likely not be any more comfortable than one from Sir Alex.
OzarkHillbilly
@Bill E Pilgrim: WHO had to give up that gig to play in Africa. Some kind of fund raiser or other. Appears their going to need a bigger venue tho.
Scamp Dog
@Baud, @Skerry: IIRC, most don’t leave notes.
Amir Khalid
@Mike J:
Wayne Rooney equalises. But United need convincing wins against sides like Swansea if they are to be take seriously as a top-four contender.
Amir Khalid
@Amir Khalid:
Swansea regain the lead. This is not going well for United. Van Gaal is surely warming up his hairdrier right now.
Amir Khalid
@Amir Khalid:
Annd Swansea get their first-ever win at Manchester United. United are bottom of the Premier League table, at least until the 3pm matches kick off.
Mike in NC
I turned on the TV this morning and some bimbo was stating that Goodhair’s indictment could shake up the 2016 presidential race. Um, no you idiot.
Tony J
@Amir Khalid:
This is indeed a good day. Think I’ll be watching Match of the Day tonight.

I went from dark brown hair to blond yesterday. Today begins the process of adjusting to seeing a stranger in the mirror.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
@Bill E Pilgrim: Thank you! I’ve been looking for this for years, only heard it once when it was done first.
Bill E Pilgrim
@Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason: Yeah me too, all I could find this time was a .doc that I had to download, nothing with the text online.
cckids
@Tommy:
I have no idea. But Tim Gunn (from Project Runway) was at Woodstock.
Wrap your head around THAT.

@ellie:
Last week, I had close to 10″ of hair cut off, I’ve got a short, short pixie-ish cut. Love, love it.

@cckids:
I’ve always thought short hair on women was hawt. (Not that you were doing it to impress me, but if you had been you’d have succeeded.) I would blame Sinead, but I think it predates my having heard of her.
Glocksman
@Skerry:
I can’t speak for others, but the two times I seriously considered suicide to the point of staring down the barrel of a loaded handgun, I didn’t leave a note.
Cervantes
@Glocksman: I’m all for first-hand experience but I hope you’ve stopped trying to acquire that particular kind.
I also appreciate that you are able to talk about it. Thanks.
Glocksman
@Cervantes:
That’s the kind of first hand experience I wish I hadn’t have except for the fact that others may learn from it.
The treatment I had to take after my DUI arrest helped me realize that drinking was a flawed self defense mechanism.
IMHO, my DUI bust saved my life.
Cervantes
@Glocksman: Not so much a silver lining as a platinum one, then. Glad to hear it.
