Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

He really is that stupid.

Let me file that under fuck it.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

All hail the time of the bunny!

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

The National Guard is not Batman.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

We had a cat sitter come in to feed the kitties and scoop their poops while we were on vacation, and they seem a little put out that the nice lady isn’t coming by anymore to give them wet food and work the feather toy during the day.

Lots of rallies in support of Mike Brown around the country. Here’s one in front of CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta:

Somehow, your pups look thrilled to be included.

Those dogs aren’t using the F-word.

    Unless it’s FOOD!

Seen today in redder-than-red, very upscale Peachtree City, Georgia: Late model Porsche with a Michelle Nunn bumper sticker. Gave me something to smile about on an otherwise depressing day.

Well, with one month left on my two-year contract with AT&T, I had to pay an early termination fee to get them to unlock my iPhone so that I can drop a local SIM into it while I am in the UK at the beginning of next month. I’m not changing US carriers, so a waiver would have been nice. But they’re probably mad at me for finally taking the time to wade through their available service offerings and finding the one that increases the data allowance for our three phones and one tablet while reducing the monthly charge by about 60 percent.

It’s tempting to say that I’ve bought my last subsidized phone, but I’m not saying that until I see the pricing of the iPhone 6.

Ya win a few, ya lose a few. At least I don’t have to buy a new phone for the kid. iPhone prices in the UK are almost the same amount of pounds as the price of the corresponding model in dollars in the US (ouch!).

The only things that are relative bargains are products from UK manufacturers, and even then only if you get the VAT refunded.

@Gin & Tonic: Not all things are. Family member was coming here earlier this year and looked into buying a Kindle while here. It was cheaper but we decided it might be kind of a pain due to the way the accounts work. She’s older and getting it re-set once she returned to the UK was going to be a potential problem. So she just got one before she left, got it set up there and it worked fine here. Cost a bit more but the amount of hassle saved made it worth it.

    Question:
I have Amazon Prime. If I buy a movie from their streaming can I play it on
Any of my devices, just as long as I sign in as myself, or is the purchase device-specific?

We had a road trip home with the dog today, too. I’m starting to think, after three trips with her, I may have to ask the vet about a sedative. I can’t handle the nonstop weeping. The only thing that will make her stop (briefly) is the preschooler letting her lick his Cheetos-dust-covered fingers and I don’t know that that is an ideal solution for either of them.

@Nicole: Wow, that must be a pain. Can you do some cognitive behavior therapy with the dog–like take the dog for short trips and the dog gets a treat in the car so the dog associates car with treats? Just something short like around the block. Then work up to longer trips. Might take some work but maybe worth it?

The gods they know I am no big fan of Zell Miller. But it was a brilliant political move in this state to get him to endorse Michelle Nunn. A lot of people who might otherwise be reluctant to pull the lever for a D will do so because ole Zell says it’s okay.

    @raven:

Raven, Raven, Raven. Do not let the perfect get in the way of the doable. See my #35. I loathe Zell, but dammit, if he can influence a significant portion of the Georgia electorate to cast their ballots for the Democratic candidate instead of the Republican, I welcome him on board. Do you want a Dem majority in the Senate next Congress, or no?
