Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

John Fetterman: Too Manly for Pennsylvania.  Paid for by the Oz for Senator campaign.

Republicans in disarray!

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Come on, man.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

It’s the corruption, stupid.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

This fight is for everything.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

“Squeaker” McCarthy

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

“But what about the lurkers?”

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Consistently wrong since 2002

    Not a bad Illini-W Ky game. Back and forth but we stretched it at the end. McNeese State damn near beat the Huskers. Lot’s of good one’s coming up. I had no idea Barry Sanders jr played for Stanford!

    I like college football because it’s more innovative than the NoFunLeague, doesn’t have a flag on every effing kickoff or punt, has a sane P.I. rule. But the constant conference reshuffles chasing $$$ really show what the whole thing is about. Maryland Big10? Really? Boise St. in what? ACC? Big East? NESAC :-)?
    And all this is before considering the exploitation of the yutes. And I’m not talking about the Utah Utes.

    On Aug 7 YouGov had No at 61% and Yes at 39%. So the drop has been swift.

    From what I can tell the No people are running a 100% Top/Down scare campaign and the Yes folks are running a grassroots operation taken directly and consciously from Obama’s 2007-2008 Playbook.

    Our kiddo is graduating high school a year early and will be off to college at some Florida school (we did the pre-paid plan dealio). Hopefully she ends up in Gainesville so I don’t have to buy new jerseys, but if she goes to USF, I’d be cool with that too. Don’t know if he played American football, so he may not count here, but…per the Daily Mail, DNA analysis has identified Jack the Ripper as Aaron Kosminski, a Polish-born hairdresser. The police had always thought he was good for at least some of the murders, but never had enough evidence to make a conviction likely, although they did succeed in keeping him confined to an asylum for the criminally insane.

I’m a U-M alum and a fan since, well, I was born. And even as a loyal fan, I can’t defend this team. They’re terrible. Pac isn’t doing so hot either though really. My Cougs have already lost their bowl chances with 2 laid eggs in a row, the Huskies only just survived against Hawaii and Eastern Washington, Arizona almost lost to UTSA, UCLA does not look like a great team right now, and Colorado just barely beat UMass.

    @Comrade Nimrod Humperdink:

    I may be stating the obvious here, but Big Ten football is in long-term, perhaps irreversible decline. They’ll have a team that has a great season and can run with the truly elite teams every ten years or so, but that’s about it.

    @Linnaeus: Kinda seems that way doesn’t it? Then again the Great Lakes states are seeing some population decline aren’t they? That might be part of the problem.

    @Comrade Nimrod Humperdink:

    Could be, though I’m not sure how much of a factor that is – maybe for the teams that draw more heavily on in-state recruits. But the conference’s traditional powers recruit nationally now. They should be better.

    @Bob In Portland: @raven: Just checked this thread to see if there was an intersection between my favorite political and sports stuff, glad to see another illini fan!
