Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

White supremacy is terrorism.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

I really should read my own blog.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Quick Holly update (my friend who had the aneurysm), not only did she move back here and started teaching again, but she was engaged over the summer and they chose to have a simple wedding in NYC. That was yesterday, and here is the picture:

hollywedding

Such a good looking and nice couple, and I just love that outfit. It’s just so, well, Holly.

    @Tree With Water:

Who’s not a big fan of true love?

Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT – mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe.

    That pic made my day!
I’ve spent the last 2 weeks trying to get my mother into a nursing home. It’s been a few years since it was needed but it’s hard to get all the siblings on board.
Anyhoo….I needed some very good “life goes on and is worth it” news.
Thanks JC & Holly & Mr. Holly. Congrats & best wishes.

Thanks for update. Congratulations. Glad she is better and everything going well.

My only concern is that this dude is not good enough for her (but, that is not me just being jealous, I swear it) and I sincerely hope he shapes up, and the story has a complete 110 percent happy ending.

I wish Holly and husband all the best that life can give. May their hearts always be filled with love. IIRC, he was a constant companion during her hospital stay, so he’s already made good on the “in sickness and in health” part of the traditional vows.

Sounds ideal! The aging thing sneaks up on all of us ready or not.

I just saw my Mom today and I love that I can see her at least once a week and I know that she is safe, happy and well every day. Today she told me that it is a big relief to not have to clean and cook and she can just enjoy her time and that she loves her place. She also told me that she hung the award she got from HW Bush in the bathroom and that it was the perfect place for it. My very own subversive senior.

    @Richard Shindledecker:

And that is just so City Hall – Congrats!

Far be it from me to rain (even if figuratively) on someone’s wedding day, but that is NOT NYC’s CIty Hall. I mean, it looks like a photo of City Hall (either that or Holly and Mr. Holly are just a tad over 20′ tall) – but: having been married “there” – admittedly in 1991 – I can tell us that that’s not where folks in the Big Apple go to get hitched.

Photo-details aside, though: congrats and much happiness to the newlyweds!

@Jay C: Actually, that is City Hall. My friends were just married there on August 22. And my wife and I picked up our marriage license there back in July.

Now, obviously the background is fake. But that’s actually right there a few paces from where all the counters are and where they have the little ceremonies. Inside the “real” City Hall they have this nice fake background for newlyweds to take photos in front of. So they are actually in City Hall in the Marriage Bureau, in front of a fake background.

I don’t know how new it is, but it’s been there since at least July 2014.
