Quick Holly update (my friend who had the aneurysm), not only did she move back here and started teaching again, but she was engaged over the summer and they chose to have a simple wedding in NYC. That was yesterday, and here is the picture:
Such a good looking and nice couple, and I just love that outfit. It’s just so, well, Holly.

Who’s not a big fan of true love?
Only the wretched of the earth, I suppose.
That’s a wonderfully retro look for a wedding photo. Best wishes!
@Tree With Water:
Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT – mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe.
Karen in GA
And that is just so City Hall – Congrats!
Omnes Omnibus (the first of his name)
Best wishes to the the happy couple.
That is fantastic news!!

May Holly and her husband have all the love their hearts can hold.
Wonderful news. May their days together be filled with love, friendship and happiness.
That pic made my day!
I’ve spent the last 2 weeks trying to get my mother into a nursing home. It’s been a few years since it was needed but it’s hard to get all the siblings on board.
Anyhoo….I needed some very good “life goes on and is worth it” news.
Thanks JC & Holly & Mr. Holly. Congrats & best wishes.
@Roger Moore: Wuv. Twu wuv. Have fun stormin’ the castle!
Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder today.
Thanks for update. Congratulations. Glad she is better and everything going well.
My only concern is that this dude is not good enough for her (but, that is not me just being jealous, I swear it) and I sincerely hope he shapes up, and the story has a complete 110 percent happy ending.
Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
But many could guess that would be my quote from the film.
So glad to hear that she came out of this so well! That is happy news, please wish them luck.
Happy, happy news!
I moved my mom a month ago. It is incredibly stressful and then all of a sudden it gets much better. Sending you best wishes as you help your mom through this transition.
@MomSense: thanks so much. It’s something I just always thought I wouldn’t have to do. Don’t know why. I actually feel better about it already because she is where I can see her everyday and I’m sure she’s being taken care of.
Best wishes for the two of them. It’s fantastic how she was able to come back so quickly.
I wish Holly and husband all the best that life can give. May their hearts always be filled with love. IIRC, he was a constant companion during her hospital stay, so he’s already made good on the “in sickness and in health” part of the traditional vows.
Adorbs. Many, many, congratulations to them both. I wish them a long and happy marriage and I expect they will have one, too, because they have already shown that they have all the moxie and devotion that any couple could wish for.
Sounds ideal! The aging thing sneaks up on all of us ready or not.
I just saw my Mom today and I love that I can see her at least once a week and I know that she is safe, happy and well every day. Today she told me that it is a big relief to not have to clean and cook and she can just enjoy her time and that she loves her place. She also told me that she hung the award she got from HW Bush in the bathroom and that it was the perfect place for it. My very own subversive senior.
She looks fabulous…
Best wishes to the couple… through life’s many challenges, may they have fun and really like and trust each other…
Congrats to an awesome couple. So pleased she is doing so incredibly well!
A Humble Lurker
On top of being resilient, she has killer taste in wedding dresses. Congrats to her on getting so much better.
Wonderful news! Best wishes to a courageous and gorgeous couple.
This is wonderful news.
Blessings to her and her new hubby.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
(And thanks for remembering us, too, John.)
Far be it from me to rain (even if figuratively) on someone’s wedding day, but that is NOT NYC’s CIty Hall. I mean, it looks like a photo of City Hall (either that or Holly and Mr. Holly are just a tad over 20′ tall) – but: having been married “there” – admittedly in 1991 – I can tell us that that’s not where folks in the Big Apple go to get hitched.
Photo-details aside, though: congrats and much happiness to the newlyweds!
Great news! And I love that dress and hat.
So much awesome!
@MomSense: That is so perfect. I loved my dad but my mom was always the sorta liberal in the (morman sometimes) family.
Great news! Best wishes to Holly and Hubby.
Best wishes to Holly and husband! Love her outfit. Very cool.
Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple! Dealing with a major illness like that can bring people together, but it can also break them apart. Glad to see they were able to weather it and come out the other side.

Congrats to the couple. Very cool classic dress that her granddaughters will drool at.
I needed a pick me up. This is wonderful. I’m so happy for her and for them.
Congratulations, Holly & husband! This is great news.
We’re going to a party tomorrow night to celebrate friends who got married this summer. Love is good.
outstanding development. i wish them all the best.
Lovely photo. I’ll raise my wine glass to that.
Not only is the wedding dress both lovely and retro. With the hat it’s Great Gatsbyish. Congrats to Holly and new husband.
Congratulations to the newlyweds — may you have joy and peace and happiness forever.
@Jay C. It is so where NYC people get hitched. The wedding bureau has a giant diorama of City Hall with lighting for photography. I have a similar photo of my own wedding, taken in the same place.
Congrats to Holly!
Cole, it’s great seeing Holly and her new husband. She’s a fighter and deserves all the happiness she can grab.
Congrats to them! That dress and hat are amazing, she is amazing!
Pretty sure that guy looks like a serial killer.
Very, very cool. She looks beautiful.
Thanks for the update, Cole
I dunno, I kind of like the notion that Holly and her new spouse are over 20 feet tall. Like a romantic comedy remake of this film.
Wonderful news. Beautiful dress, beautiful couple…….. beautiful life.
So long as they keep telling each other, “As you wish”, things will all turn out all right in the end. Congrats and best wishes.
Most excellent, and an awesome pic.
Congrats and best wishes to Holly and her guy!

@Jay C: Actually, that is City Hall. My friends were just married there on August 22. And my wife and I picked up our marriage license there back in July.
Now, obviously the background is fake. But that’s actually right there a few paces from where all the counters are and where they have the little ceremonies. Inside the “real” City Hall they have this nice fake background for newlyweds to take photos in front of. So they are actually in City Hall in the Marriage Bureau, in front of a fake background.
I don’t know how new it is, but it’s been there since at least July 2014.
Holly, you are beautiful, and such an inspiration! Happy wedding, happy life.
