What’s up today? I just got back from running the dogs, who collapsed in panting heaps as soon as we came back through the door.
There are some interesting college football match ups today, including Georgia vs Tennessee (Go Dawgs!) and South Florida vs Wisconsin (Go Bulls! — but the Badgers will likely win). My own Florida Gators simply cannot lose today (because they aren’t playing).
I’m hoping NC State pantses the ‘Noles. Will Stanford or Washington prevail in the PAC 12? I have no idea, but if I were a betting woman, I’d lay a few quid on Washington with the points. Mizzou and South Carolina should be a huge game this evening. I’m rooting for the ‘Cocks.

Go Big Orange, although it’s likely they’re not quite ready for prime time between the hedges.
Wag
Soccerfest. A couple of games with the kids, and going to see the Rapids tonight
Hopefully throw in a road ride, as well

Work and errands. Boo.

Truth be known, we’ll be on the road coming back from a quick trip to the Atlantic. Big waves to frolic in, along with overcast and patches of rain. All in all a very nice first visit to Myrtle Beach.
WereBear
REST. I climbed a mountain yesterday, and I’m not used to that.
Totally worth it, though!

I hope Liverpool get something from today’s Merseyside derby at home.

Second goddamn noon kickoff it 2 weeks. Doesn’t matter to me but all the bullshit about “crowd intimidation” goes down hill when the idiots can’t get drunk before the game.

Those are the points scored by Georgia’s offense in every home game since Todd Gurley’s been on the roster. With Aaron Murray. Without Aaron Murray. Day games. Night games. Against cupcakes. Against SEC powerhouses. Games when Georgia’s showed up. Games when Georgia hasn’t shown up so much. SEC on CBS games. Pay per view games.
Games with Todd Gurley and games without Todd Gurley, for that matter. “

Shore cleanup today, followed by bbq and a bit of sailing.

@raven: I hate noon games. I’m not a morning person. Tailgating in the morning is not fun. But perhaps it will stay overcast through the game and won’t be too miserably hot. And no injuries! Please!
Also, cite your source, man, with the Gurley stats. The Senator took the time to make us all feel better (about this season…next looks scary without the kid).
eta: running late; will check back post-game. Guys in front of us live in Chicago, are missing the game due to the fire at O’Hare. I can’t imagine how furious I’d be.
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
I’ll be attending an open practice/scrimmage for the Gopher women’s hockey team. Not sure what I’ll do after that. At least Newcastle won’t lose today.
raven
@tesslibrarian: It was, indeed, the senator. Why am I less disturbed when a local librarian demands a citation????

Going to see the new Jimi Hendrix biopic, then lunch in Chinatown at a place where there’s a guy in the window making the dumplings and noodles. My excuse for excessive eating is that I’m carb-loading for my planned long run tomorrow morning. My excuse for excessive eating tomorrow will be that I did a long run.

Alas, they probably will on Monday to Stoke City. I was expecting Alan

Fvckin’ amatuers.
Amir Khalid
@Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN):
Take comfort in this: regardless of Monday’s result, Newcastle’s position in the Premier League table will definitely not drop any lower.
Amir Khalid
@evap:
I understand the Hendrixes wouldn’t let the movie use any of Jimi’s music. It’s going to feel odd, a Jimi biopic without the sound of Jimi playing.
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
@Amir Khalid: Unfortunately, it isn’t true that they have nowhere to go but up; they could always get sent down.

I cannot root for a Spurrier coached team if they were playing Satan’s Legions.
Amir Khalid
@Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN):
Yes, they could get sent down; but not this week.
Feh: Everton are level.
gene108
So do I, but damn my Wolfpack will have to play a perfect game and FSU will have to crap the bed for that to happen.
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
@Amir Khalid: True. I should just focus on this week. Or today.

At the vet checking trying to figure out why both dogs have diarrhea. Then off to a birthday brunch and then a second birthday party tonight. Then flying to Denver tomorrow night after the Bears game to argue an appeal on Monday.

Not much to do today. Had a date with my urologist yesterday, and the news was pretty much all good– so it looks like this year’s siege of medical stuff is over. Cleanup will continue into next year, but at a slower pace, one hopes.
It’s beautiful weather, so I’ll go out and take a walk.

Heading to the big city for governors island. Then I’ll probably catch the Box Trolls. First time out for two weeks because of a cold I can’t shake. I think I’m better but my insides don’t know it yet. I’ll probably be back in two hours realizing that health is more than skin deep and it’s what’s on the inside that matters most.
Betty Cracker
@gene108: I think FSU is overrated. Of course, I thought that last year and they won the title, but I still say they’re overrated!

@raven: Dawg! I feel good about today. I would laugh my ass off if the Wolfpack pulled a victory out of their ass today — and I do think Doeren has no place to go but up after going victory-less in the ACC last year — but I really just don’t see it happening.
raven
@Dolly Llama: Yea, it’s just that we so often play down to the level of the comp. Maybe whipping the shit out of Troy was some indication that Saint Mark is ready to go for the throat!
Just One More Canuck
@Hawes: that would be an intersquad game
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
Woah. Hull and Man City are going at it.
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
Oh, and here’s hoping ManU blows another two goal lead.
Dolly Llama
@raven: I know Troy is shit and all, but I got the same feeling. That’s the first time I can remember us ever really just destroying a team like that under Richt. And I’m kind of with the Senator: Given all the things we know about both teams, we really should go into this thing expecting to win and win big, but the fans (at least the ones at GTP) are apprehensive. I hope like hell Tennessee doesn’t end up proving that apprehension warranted. If this game is even close, I’d say we might very well be in for a long-ass season.
raven
@Dolly Llama: Yea, we’re all Munson I guess. I got banned from the IlliniLoyalty blog becuase there were people there wanting “a coach like Muschamp” and I said he was an idiot!!
gene108
@Betty Cracker:
Throw into the mix that ACC refs are crooked as hell. It servers the league’s interest for FSU to be #1. If NCSU gets close look for some questionable calls to go against NCSU.
raven
@gene108: Oh god, every fan thinks that bullshit
raven
Go Dawgs!!!!

I don’t like Saban but that was funny. He was talking about his wife and he said “I asked her, in your wildest dreams did you ever think we’d be a part of three national championships”? She said “Honey, you’re not in my wildest dreams”!

I’m a kinda-sorta Mizzou alum (didn’t graduate because I transferred out my senior year), but my niece is at South Carolina so I too say “Go Cocks.” Also — Cocks!

WVU Mountaineers will go undefeated today, no game. Kansas next weekend, could be a good game. 2-2 right now, losses to Texas and OK, maybe two best teams in the country. So WVU could be #3 !? one hopes.
Go Herd, Marshall could run the table… So far this year they’ve scored something like 182 points, vrs like 30 for the opponents. Bowl in their future.
Linnaeus
Watching the Wolverines against Minnesota today. They might actually win this one.
Linnaeus
@tesslibrarian:
I tend to like earlier kickoffs (noon, or even better, 1:00 pm) because, among other things, that leaves more time for post-game tailgating.
M.C. Simon Milligan
Hammers just got robbed at Old Trafford. Hoping to see Big Sam unleash some hell on MotD tonight. Schalke – whose defense actually showed up today – won the rivierderby though so even if the Vols lose, today will be a good day. Also, Gunners v Spurs should be fun.
shelley
Their tv commercials are annoying enough. Now I’ve got ProActive ads plastered all over this site? Eeeyaaah!
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
Huskies will have to show something they haven’t all season to beat the Trees. And what self-respecting Florida fan cheers for Georgia, well, ever (except maybe in a bowl game out of conference pride)? Don’t get me wrong, I prefer the Dawgs to the Gators my own self, but I thought there was a rivalry there and stuff.
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
@Linnaeus: Yeah. Michigan might just be bad enough that we win today. It would be the third time we’ve beaten Michigan since I came up here in 1986. (I grew up in Ann Arbor and my father is on the faculty.) We did it my freshman year, when Michigan was ranked #1, and I thought it would be at least a semi-regular occurrence. Then the putrescence that is Golden Gopher football asserted itself.
The other funny thing is that over those 28 years, our only recoveries of the Jug were in the Big House.
Comrade Nimrod Humperdink
@raven: A lot of the top teams don’t look as good as they did last year really. FSU looks worse, still good but worse. I don’t think Alabama is as good. I haven’t seen Auburn or Oklahoma yet, and Oregon is giving mixed signals. Texas A&M might be better, surprisingly. Michigan State is about where they were, Wisconsin, Stanford, LSU,and Ohio State all look worse. UCLA may turn out all right, though Arizona State is screwed without Taylor Kelly. Their secondary is terribad and it’ll be harder for them to outscore people without him.
shelley
Read that Sarah Palin got the address of the White House wrong (1400 Pennsylvania Ave.) at the Value Voters conference. Didn’t they just have that conference? Maybe getting that confused with CPAC. They all seem to run together.

Here we go. Derby Day, Part Deux.

@M.C. Simon Milligan:
Go Gunners!
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
I’m a Newcastle United fan so I need a secondary team to root for that actually wins once in a while. So who is out there that isn’t owned by an Arab or Russian asshole and isn’t ManU?
Gator90
@Comrade Nimrod Humperdink: My self-respect is iffy, but I root for Georgia only if they are in a bowl game, and even that ain’t easy. I would definitely root for UGA against FSU or ISIS, though.
burnspbesq
Duke got to 4-0 by feasting on inferior teams. Miami is the first real challenge. We may find out some things tonight.

Go Cardinal (the color not the bird – and it has NOTHING to do with Harvard being Crimson – NOTHING!!!!)
I still wish they’d adopted “Tree” as their mascot when they dropped “Indians” – then it would be Huskies vs. Trees – who would get pissed on?
(Tree was proposed by the band – Palo Alto means Tall Post – but refers to a specific redwood tree that was a local landmark)
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
r@Linnaeus: It’s funny. Despite all of the Ann Arbor Angst, Michigan is favored by 12 points today.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@shelley: apparently wing nuts are flinging “57 STATES! ha! ha!” in reply. So you have one six year old brain fart by Obama compared to six years of cognitive dysentery from Granny Drunkenbrawl. BOTH SIDES!
Linnaeus
@Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN):
Which I don’t fully understand, though I know Minnesota is, ahem, struggling too.
Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN)
@Linnaeus: Hey, we completed a pass last week. One of them. For seven yards. And I suppose the interception could count as a completion, too.

Whew.
Betty Cracker
@Comrade Nimrod Humperdink: I just really, really, REALLY despise the Vols. I also think the FL-GA rivalry is more intense on the GA side, at least with alums in my generation. We’re all about hating on the ‘Noles.
