That gallus gallus domesticus needs right proper intercoursin’, it does, and here’s the fella to do it.
House Republicans have hired a noted constitutional lawyer to oversee a lawsuit against President Barack Obama for alleged executive overreach.
Jonathan Turley, a professor at The George Washington University, has argued in favor of the suit against Obama’s executive order delaying the employer mandate provision of Obamacare.
This is Republicans’ third lawyer since the suit was initially passed in July. Two previous lawyers dropped the case and the House has yet to file the lawsuit in federal court.
“Professor Turley is a renowned legal scholar who agrees that President Obama has clearly overstepped his constitutional authority,” said Michael Steel, a spokesperson for Speaker John Boehner. “He is a natural choice to handle this lawsuit.”
Turley’s such a “patriot” that he’s taking up the case to put Obama in his place, like he has a personal crusade to see him burn over any GOP-created garbage just to get at him over civil liberties?

The Other Bob
By the time this hits the court, won’t the employer mandate be in effect? If so, won’t it be moot and thrown out of court?
@The Other Bob: Hence the “let’s add immigration and some other stuff” to the lawsuit part.

Obama actually taught Constitutional Law for years, as did Biden. They likely know more about the lawfulness of every act the Obama Administration has done than the Entire House, GOP and Democrats.
That said — it won’t matter a damn if the 5 Angry Men on the SCOTUS get their hands on a way to impeach Obama, I fear.
Just Some Fuckhead
When Obama’s in danger,
When he’s threatened by a stranger,
When it looks like he will take a lickin’,
There is someone waiting,
Who will hurry up and rescue him,
just Call for Zanderman!
So, when do the impeachment hearings start?
Didn’t take more than 24 hours to revert to Obamabot form that everyone has become so tired of.
I suspect that it’s more of a question of cashing some sweet, sweet wingnut welfare checks. Anyone looking at the suit who is even remotely objective knows it’s going to get thrown out in a minute for a variety of good and sufficient reasons that can’t be overcome with clever legal reasoning. Anyone who takes it up now is just doing it to generate some billable hours.
Hey, look who popped out from under his bridge!
Any criticism of the relentless, stupid persecution of the president makes one an Obamabot? First I’ve heard of it.
@Roger Moore: I’m sure if you ask Zandar to move his quarter-ton self you can have a go at fellating Obama too.
@Spinwheel: I must say, you have talent. You’re the only one I know that can give a reach around to yourself.
Mike in dc
I had Turley for Torts in law school. Entertaining prof and smart lawyer. But he’s barking up the wrong tree here.
@Belafon: I guess that’s better than Zandar who hasn’t seen his dick since the Clinton years.
Just One More Canuck
@Roger Moore: I read that as “pooped out from under his bridge” – pretty much the same
Snarki, child of Loki
Clearly, Orly Taitz was their first choice, but her response was “Nah, too nutso for me, get someone else”.
The saddest part is, you know he had a Google alert set up for when Zandar started posting again. Because he has absolutely nothing else going on in his life to distract him from mindless harassment.
I thought Cruz was supposed to be some s**t hot lawyer type. Why isn’t he running point on this? (Or is he just making enough mewling noises to hoover up those Neo-Confederate quintuploons?)
Might want to read what he has to say.
@jo6pac: I have.
Putting his faith in the Roberts Court to “rebalance” the powers of the branches is stupid at best and fatal at worst. I understand the desire to scale back any post-Nixon presidency, but there’s no way that any judiciary that includes Alito, Scalia, and Clarence Thomas can do that without “rebalancing” the last vestiges of power away from anyone who doesn’t make a million plus a year.
@jo6pac: Since no one saw a constitutional problem with the Administration’s decision to postpone the individual mandate (that’s what the extension was), why is there a problem with postponing the employer mandate?
I loathed Turley during the Clinton presidency. He actually was OK during bush43, pointing out dubya’s illegal actions as President. I guess I’ll loathe him again shortly.
@Zandar: If Congress is concerned about taking back power, it can do so. Of course that means taking actual positions on matters – especially wrt foreign affairs. As it is now, the GOP in Congress scream for Obama to do something and then bitch about what he does.
It is the House not the Senate that is considering filing suit.
@kindness: He’s an obnoxious single-issue gadfly. If you care about literally any other issue, his act is going to wear thin, fast. Kind of a “type.”
@Omnes Omnibus: Oh, but they don’t want to take back power, they just want the President not to have it.
@Omnes Omnibus: Ah. Thanks for that.
@FlipYrWhig: Which puts them fundamentally in conflict with what Turley says he wants. He wants to rebalance the branches – something that is not a bad idea. This is not the tool to use for that purpose.
Actually, I’m surprised- I thought Turley would have more sense than to get involved in something like this. He must know that the lawsuit is bullshit.
As a side note, I did not know GWU uses the definitive article in its name. Is that new?
Turley is the “natural choice” that it took Boehner a mere five months to find. Now that we’ve established what Turley’s profession is, let’s haggle over the price.
Ok, so two themes have popped up so far. Turley has been an ass on this “issue” for some time. Or, Turley is a racist ass just looking for a wedge in against this specific president.
Turley? Turley has signed onto this dreck barge? Ugh. And he thinks the Roberts USSC will join him in using this lawsuit to rein in executive powers? Holy fuck. One, I’ll have what he’s having; two, the very definition of quixotic. And possibly chutzpah, in an act of verbal congress.
dance around in your bones
WTF will these people NOT do to destroy Obama? Fuck it, I’m giving up reading about politics.
Maybe I’ll just start writing my book.. While listening to the Thelma and Louise soundtrack. And Jim Carroll. And The Roches, And The Indigo Girls. And X. And….well, y’all get the picture :)
I haven’t noticed the fact that Cruz isn’t in the House stopping him from leading a significant fraction of them around by their noses.
So, Glenn Greenwald without the clever turns of phrase, then. Good to know.
