video of police officers turning their backs on DeBlasio as he enters presser.
The irony that these protestors suddenly have to be held accountable for the murders of 2 police officers when what they were protesting was police officers NOT being held accountable for civilian deaths … my head is spinning.
Things like this aren’t going to engender a lot of sympathy among the rank and file citizenry.

Can’t say I’m suprised after the bullshit about banning the mayor from funerals. This is the equivilant of Dubya’s ‘ you’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists’. I hope DiBlasio has more backbone than a lot of folks had back then. Lynch is the biggest douche in the world using this tragedy as a political wedge. I only hope it comes back to bite him in the ass.

This is all but an invitation to assassinate the Mayor, coming from the head of the PBA. I’m old enough to remember when ex-cop Dan White murdered Mayor Moscone and City Councilman Milk in San Franscisco using his service revolver, so it isn’t as if it can’t happen.
Sickening.

@lamh36: head spinning to think that underneath all this rage is a cop who wasn’t indicted for strangling a man on the street.
Time for reform and reorganization of NYPD. A lot of their brass is corrupt, IMHO, since they seem to think they work for Wall Street Bankers. I guess that is NYPD’s version of LAPD celebrity complex.
Maybe this stuff is another result of militarization of policing in the US.
I wonder what the murderer’s real motive was, and whether he was mentally disturbed.. Said he was angry about Brown and Garner killings. But it started with the guy murdering his girlfriend in Baltimore What did she have to do with Brown and Garner killings? Then I heard he put up picks of the bloodstains from his murder of his girlfriend on instagram or twitter. Which seems way odd.

No -underneath this is a failed justice system… cops need to become part of the justice system again. Right now, some of them are in some other vigilante state that is unrelated to their formal powers and responsibilities. It is good to have this happen because otherwise we would not have known how broken some police departments are. We know now and while it is scary and upsetting, we have to take steps. I am surprised (truly), that other cooler and more responsible people aren’t reining them in or at least pointing out the extreme rhetoric. The Mayor also has to say something. This is very serious and very important.

I have some questions for people like Lynch: Why do police departments in other countries avoid the levels of violence that US cops routinely use? Are our cops that scared? Do cops know they aren’t in the military? Do they know that a lot of real soldiers don’t care very much for cops? And, finally, do you know how much of an asshole you appear to be?

@lamh36: As other commenters have noted it is disturbing how it is off limits to bring up the possible political motives of white reactionaries assassinating police and shooting up random places, but white farts hammer on it and it is promoted in our crummy corporate media when supposed ‘lefty’ motives or racial minorities involved.
Apparently the guy did make public statements he was angry about the Brown and Garner killings, so it is fair game. But the white cop killers and random murderers rambled on about their politically motivated grips too, and they were dismissed as weirdos and disturbed.
I would like to hear what they know about why he killed the woman. Only connection I can see is that she knew he wanted to assassinate some cops and she was going to report it. But that is just a tad speculative. A mentally disturbed person going apeshit over whatever is more likely.
Edit: the woman was murdered in Baltimore, so I assume they have an interest in getting the story behind that. Another question is if they guy wanted to assassinate cops, why did he have to go all the way to NY? What is wrong with Baltimore? Because Garner was killed there? Maybe… But it seems odd.

@Omnes Omnibus: I think the mindset has been developing ever since some bright eyed and brilliant conservative sociologists and economists came up with their goofy predator class theories back in the day 40 years ago. Played well for the white racial bigot/racist audience in the US, which is larger than we want to admit.
Conservative applied economists ran a bunch of BS regressions that supposedly proved that there were irredeemable ‘bad guys’ and most economically efficient thing to do was to lock ’em up and throw away the key. led to BS like California basically abandoning attempts at rehabilitation, leading to disastrous results, especially in interaction with misguided laws like the ever stricter 3 strikes law.
Also, I think the barbaric attitudes associated with ‘scared straight’ programs played a role. And I think that there is a connection with the militarization of police.
But, mostly the last generation of scared and hateful bigots and racists in the US need to go away, either to the rest homes or each the natural end of their days and quit screwing up the country’s politics.
I’m not as bleak about it as others. Seems like a pendulum or progress and reaction. Police just don’t ignore minority on minority violence in minority communities anymore, and keep it from disturbing the good white folks just by beating the crap out any minority who steps out of line in a white neighborhood. I know for a fact that kind of progress scares some white bigots because they say so once in a while. So, probably a lot of white bigot support for subtly and slowly turning community policing into stop and frisk anyone who looks different walking down the street in certain neighborhood.

This is nothing new. In the early ’90s, I was dating a guy whose dad (African-American) was a formerly high-ranking NYPD official before his retirement. We were visiting one weekend when a young, unarmed Latino man was killed by NYPD. Dave Dinkins was mayor at the time, and he visited the young man’s mother to offer his condolences. Local news then reported on the head of the police union’s reaction to the mayor’s visit to the mother. I don’t remember his exact words, but he yelled “m-f-in n****r” multiple times in his rant against the mayor. When asked for a response, Dinkins was unbelievably calm and gracious (although I wouldn’t be surprised if he was seething inside).

For anyone who didn’t click on the link, here’s what Patrick Lynch said:
“There’s blood on many hands tonight — those that incited violence on the street under the guise of protests, that tried to tear down what New York City police officers did every day,” the head of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch, said outside Woodhull Hospital. He added, “That blood on the hands starts on the steps of City Hall, in the office of the mayor.”
That’s appalling. He needs to go.
161.

Just caught a clip of Lynch saying that, via CNN Headline News.
The man does not speak. He brays. He literally brays.
“Some union leaders suggested the mayor had sent a message that police officers were to be feared.”
I think the police have sent that message, loud and clear. And the union leaders are doing nothing to counteract it — they seem to want the police to be feared.
The police union spokesbrutes are doing the worst public relations I have ever seen.

Lynch’s response is so reminiscent of the right’s reaction to criticism of the Iraq war. Apparently, if you criticize the action of one side, you are actually advocating for even the worst actions of people that might be considered to inhabit the “other side” of the equation.
I use to love the standard response to saying the invasion of Iraq was a stupid idea as the Bush supporters would inevitably accuse you of siding with the terrorists. Because obviously you can’t think both things are bad. Also, you could find out quickly just how ill-informed someone was by asking, exactly what did Iraq have to do with Al Qaeda, and 9-11.

@Corner Stone: who the fuck are you to give me one iota of shit over what I said to Tommy? Particularly after you said it was a spoof from the get go. Piss off.
And then there’s the shit JSF & Keith G had to say regarding General Stuck and wishing eemom death. Fuck you both.
Corner Stone
@ruemara: I’m this person, that’s who. Surprise!
ChrisH
I really wouldn’t be surprised if Lynch popped a bottle of champagne after these officers were gunned down.
Quite honestly this whole situation is making me think of the US House of Cards; Frank Underwood patiently waiting for a child to be killed during a teacher strike in order to blame it on the teacher union.

I think commenter Elie had good comments last night about how the loose talk of insurrection and violence against cops only endangers black folks, since us white people are safely removed from it.
I do think however, that we white people can and should make it clear to cops that if they want to be feared, they will also be hated. By all of us.

I’d like to know what pat lynch s salary plus benefits are a year..

@Corner Stone: lol

@Liberty60:
Keep thinking that. If you ain’t one of America’s owners then you ain’t shit. The hired thugs of the property class don’t report to you.
Just Some Fuckhead
@ruemara: Oh piss off, you fucking drama queen. Don’t you have a president to blow or something?

@Just Some Fuckhead:
Me-ow. Would you like a saucer of milk, your cattiness?

Mr. Lynch blames the first amendment for those cops’ deaths. Someone whose self-examination is so opaque is merely moving air molecules when he speaks.
Corner Stone
@Just Some Fuckhead:
She’s still mad President Stuck didn’t will his well-used knee pads to her.

@Gravenstone:
Hmmm … working fine here for me. I had to download again recently, though:

Makes a real difference.

This Patrick Lynch idiot—IS the problem with peoples mistrust of NYPD and indeed all police officers. Instead of this guy weeding out the bad assholes in blue—he blames people (as they exercise their constitutional rights) for the killing of two officers… BS!—And what does he say about the MANY killings (of innocent people) and the constant violation of citizen rights by his NAZI police department???? Not a damn word…PATRICK LYNCH AND THOSE LIKE HIM….ARE THE PROBLEM!
Wayne
I agree with you 100%—Guys like HIM…Are the real problem here…He needs to spend some of his BS hot air weeding out his storm trooper misfits in the department….
Wayne
Yeah…This Patrick Lynch guy needs to shut the hell up—He’s just making matters worst!
Keith G
@ruemara:
You got that from what I typed?
What the hell are you snorting?
Just Some Fuckhead
@Keith G: Reading comprehension wasn’t in Stuck’s wheelhouse either. There’s a reason these halfwits all sat around airfiving each other across the world.
Corner Stone
@Keith G: She seems to have a picoliter worth of understanding what’s going on here.
LAC
@Corner Stone: maybe you and Keith G should go braid each other’s hair and snicker about what a school tramp Mary sue is. I am losing track as to what the thread is about , ladies…
Corner Stone
@LAC: You should probably try not drinking so much Vodka.
I would suggest trying to be not such an idiot, but the alcohol thing is probably going to be easier for a lush like you.
Aren’t there a plethora of places you can go to get treatment, you poor addict?
Corner Stone
@LAC: Probably passed out, I guess. I’ll check back around midnight for your ankle biting comments. Blood sugar crash is a terrible thing. Feel better.
Thanks

This is all about that you are either entirely with them, or entirely against them. So, they will turn everyone against them.
LAC
@Corner Stone: Hey Princess. Sorry I missed you. Was out finishing some Christmas shopping for the family and all. You know…those people that probably stare at you while you ramble on drunkenly about what a big man you are on Balloon Juice.
I am sensing a little defensive peevishness – two posts back to back? You didn’t slosh your drinkiepoo on your keyboard, did you? Relax…you are not funny when you try so hard.
Corner Stone
@LAC: Glad you finally woke up. But please, for the sake of yourself and others, do not try driving anywhere.
I’m sure you’re still pretty blotto but those two posts back to back are actually two hours apart.
Next time try taking a cold shower or splashing some cold water in your face before you embarrass yourself here.
Corner Stone
@LAC:
Hope your dues are paid up and current with the movie projectionists’ guild.
LAC
@Corner Stone: you are really sad. So insecure and in need of validation. You glom on like some 1 am drunk, pretending that the writers here are your friends and that you In the inner circle at balloon juice’and can bully people here. I hope that holidays will cause some introspection and that you will wake up sober, pants on and in your bed and you turn over a new leaf. One that doesn’t have a bourbon bottle under it. Best wishes…
Corner Stone
@LAC: It’s ok, honey. We get how much you have to contribute here, usually after midnight EST.
It’s alright. No need to keep getting drunk and rage-venting here about your pathological inadequacies.
You’re much more valuable here, with your keen insight and value added contributions. It’s ok. Please get help. Drunk ass rage posting never helped anyone.
LAC
@Corner Stone: last word with you always, isn’t it? You must be a joy at family gatherings. Please stop trying to be witty. You will make someone think that you care what I think about you. Green tea and lie down. You have done enough damage.
Corner Stone
@LAC: It’s ok. It really is. There’s help out there for you, if you only accept it.
You don’t have to be an angry drunk jackass your whole life. Just put it down and accept some help.

@eemom:
I was just thinking that while reading through the comments.

Your a FOOL, I wish I could tell you to your face. It was wrong what was done to police. BUT how long have they been doing this and other to brown skin people. I’ve never been in trouble except speeding tickets and experienced that attitudes of dirty cops that the police department keeps. So, do you think people are going to lay down and continue to take this crap, you wouldn’t. You are poison to police unions and departments. GOD DOESNT SLEEP NOR FORGETS. He created YOU and the rest of the world. Be a positive beacon of light. We will all answer to him as you will find out, so get your heart together. Thanks

I’m white. I’m fully American. Fuck Patrick Lynch. Fuck America. We have a cultural problem here, period.

@AnonPhenom:
For Lynch to head the police union he needs to be a cop,Who the #%^& does p. lynch think he is ? His off the wall statement that DiBlasi has blood on his hands. Lynch has blood on his hands from denying the murder of Gardner and all the other people who have been murdered and abused
