Well, I was just doing a last check before toddling off to bed and found this. Let me be the first to wish all Juicers a merry Christmas Day and (continued) happy holidays!

I’m off to bed since I’m one of the schlubs who’s got to work on Christimas day! Darn hospitals and their 24 hour care for the sick ;-)
So, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
@lamh36: Madame Dr. divF just mentioned in her “oh by the way tone” that she may have to go do a patient visit tomorrow (12/25). So nephew gets my car (to see his parents), Madame goes and visits patient with the other car, and I get dropped off at the only cafe in Berkeley that’s open on Christmas Day. On Christmas, the French Hotel is like Rick’s in Casablanca – everyone turns up there at one point or another.
Anyway Joyeaux Noel, everybody ! See you all tomorrow.

Merry, merry Christmas Juicers!
Loved that bit of ‘O Holy Night soul AL.
Much appreciation to lamh36 and others working tomorrow and preserving the social construct. (suck it Thatcher’s ghost)
NORAD’s site is cute, I bet the kiddies just love it.
Flu hit me at about 2am today/yesterday so I’ll probably quarantine myself tomorrow and look forward to leftovers. Still feeling some holiday goodness even with the fever. Watching ‘Trading Places’ for the first time as an adult and shooting Nyquil.
Got the candy cane cheesecake baked and in the fridge, presents all under the tree, dishes done and put away, and the living/dining/kitchen clean and tidy. And now: TO SLEEP, as I’m sure I’ll be awoken at a horrible hour tomorrow.
Batgirl pajamas are in the washer so they can be worn for Xmas morning. We have to head out to my aunt’s around noon, and I still need to wrap my niece and nephew’s hats. I did manage to finish the seed stitch without gouging my eyes out.

Back from fondue, our Christmas Eve tradition, did the stocking thing, and settled down to try to make Final Fantasy XIV work on my new laptop. I completely uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, only to discover that they’re doing maintenance until midnight. I think I may be headed for sleep soon.
Have a Merry and/or Happy Non-Denominational Winter Holiday of Your Choice!
We have a long family tradition that someone is always sick on Christmas Day. My nephew drew the short straw this year and got strep throat. Worst was probably the year one of my brothers had stomach flu and we couldn’t open presents until 5:00 pm. Though it was also fun when G and I came down with the flu at the same time while staying at a hotel in Arizona.

Last year I awoke Christmas Morning with a temp of 103 and (shortly after), a diagnosis of H1N1 that kicked my ass for the best part of 10 days.
We’re in for a depressing day tomorrow, visiting the hubby’s belligerent dementia-suffering father who doesn’t think he belongs in the nursing home he had to be placed in a few months ago.
So to make things extra special, we lost power for four hours tonight. It made opening gifts a lot of fun.
Me: “Ooh, the True Detective DVD! Too bad we can’t watch it because we have no power!”
Hubby: “Oh, how funny, you got me the leg lamp from A Christmas Story. I wonder if it works? Who knows! No point plugging it in!”
Me: “I know, it’s like Little House on the goddamned Prairie! Hey, where’s the dog?”
Hubby: “No idea! I can’t see a thing!”
For some reason we found the whole thing hysterically funny, and had a long and much-needed laugh. We’re not even dreading tomorrow anymore.
Merry/happy whatever you celebrate, everyone!

Just finished our first high-stakes ‘wrap it and put it all under the tree without waking the kid up’ session (we have an almost three year old, who gets it now, and a two week old, so already weren’t sleeping much). Bring on the egg nog tomorrow. Or better yet a Bloody Mary.

The Pale Scot
I kept my lip buttoned up at dinner tonight, responded to various political and current affairs with ” no, I hadn’t heard that”.
You won’t believe what the blacks are ….. never mind.
So I waited until the insomniac’s last fix of “news” for the day was got, opened a bottle of wine to keep me hydrated while I wrap up a last minute gift, whip out the cool chrome wrapping paper I bought at Dollar Tree, and discovered that it’s not chrome, it’s clear see thru cellophane.
Oy…..

Awake, now, for some reason after 2 1/2 hrs sleep. Been doing that a lot lately, and it’s not stress or physical health-feeling pretty well on each count.
Baking Q: How easy is it to beat too much air into a cookie dough (chocolate chip, drop style), and why do I seem prone to it even after turning my Kitchen Aid down, down, down?
This from a guy who has no problem with not over beating batter (by hand) with the Muffin Method.
Merry to all. If that’s my big problem, I think it will disappear when I open up the bacon & chocolate chip cookie tin for our hosts.
I was awakened by the steady thrum of rain on the roof. South Florida is having a very wet Christmas, but it’s the first decent rain in a while so the lawns will be happy for the moisture.
I got an alert from the bank: the school district deposited paychecks a day early so I got paid on Christmas Day; how very Frank Capra of them.
Best wishes to all Juicers and their friends and family. As we Quakers say, every day is a holiday. “Celebrate Christmas with a full heart on Dec. 25. But understand that you’re celebrating an endless calling, and keep your heart open to the world’s needs 365 days a year.” (Yes, Quakers can do the guilt bit just as well as anyone else.)
Merry Christmas to all my friends on Balloon Juice! I hope everyone gets what they wanted from Santa this year.
The critters will be getting their Christmas bones, and the cats a new huge scratching pad just before I leave for Chicago to visit my son.
I’m thankful for all the help and blessings I was the happy recipient of this year, hopeful I provided some help and blessings to a few others, and am looking forward to a better New Year for us all.

@Karen in GA: Try to find the humor in things. It tore me up to have my old man with tears in his eyes, beg me to take him home… To our mother. But I still laugh at the time he was doing dishes and singing:

Oh Hell, just a whole lot of crap!
@OzarkHillbilly: I feel ya!
Coping with aging parents who develop dementia is such a tough thing to get through. I’m going down that road with my mom. At some point I may have to rehome some of my herd to move to Florida because she will need someone there. And as they’re mostly old and have been unadoptable, not sure how I can. I keep my fingers crossed the older animals shuffle off before mom loses too much cognitive ability.

@Baud: I got a backup camera for my automobile, a 128gb flash drive, and a $50 gift cert at Best Buy. Merry Christmas Baud.
Oh, I saw the backup camera in the store and was thinking about it. Let me know how easy it is to install.
45.
BillinGlendaleCA
@Baud: I got mine at Costco, it’s not too difficult to install if all things are working(aka backup lights). The switch that turns on my backup lights wasn’t working so I had to fix that to get it to work. I gave the kid the same thing for her car.
Mazel tov on making it through the muck on the drive.
Busted the food budget wide open on a standing rib roast which will be cooked later today, along with au jus from the drippings, plus some sides and also a big pot of French onion soup, that last which may end up being prepared pre-dawn if cannot get back to beddy-bye.

@NotMax: It’s cloudy but the rain has passed so it will be pretty. Last Xmas morn we drove up to. West Virginia but this time we’ll head more east. Have a good one therein paradise.
I have joined Chowhound to fix a drop cookie dough texture (mentioned above). Don’t know why I waited this long.
And thanks to them gummint bureaucrats, I got to test drive a new car while the dealership was performing a (free) recall service on our 13 y.o., 240k Sentra. The new version seems plush, which shows how ‘beater’ my reliable buzzbomb has become.
The best part was telling my wife (who rides shotgun) was probably finding out that the passenger side airbag sensor was not faulty for a dozen years.

Santa put a bunch of loot under the tree for J and her twin sister who is visiting. I’m expecting a lump of coal or two, and maybe a shirt. ;-)
Merry Christmas, everyone. Here’s hoping we all have a great 2015.
