Which for some reason reminded me… oh yeah:
So my gutters need to be cleaned, because they are horribly clogged to the point that when it rains, it pours over the side and has started to dig a little hole in the ground from the waterfall that has been created. In addition to that, I am worried the constant water will damage the wood. So, little homemaker that I am, I decided to clean the gutters…
At least they didn’t have to call out the fire department for you, Cole.

Oh wow Misty Copeland just killed it on the Kennedy Center Honors. Flawless performance.

Dawgs grinding it out with Nick Chubb at 210 yards rushing!

@MomSense: Love Misty.
Patricia McBride is 72 years old!!!!
Wow!

Oh yea, I don’t suppose the football haters that were distraught at Harbaugh’s 8 million dollar salary will feel better :

Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington may just be my favorite actors of all times.
They are my top 2 actors, with Denzel coming at top.

Nick Chubb runs for 267 yards and is second only behind Herschel for a single season!

And thats not counting the millions he will get from the Uniform people & the shoe people and the free car from a local dealership and, and, and. But heaven forfend someone give the a kid on the team a drink of water for free, or that the kid should control his image when it is sold by dear old U or the NCAA.

BTW, the lil bit with Colbert and Letterman was too funny.
Letterman came on to introduce the Tom Hanks segment and Colbert followed Letterman out and stood next to Dave.
Dave quipped…”Not yet…”

Also glad that the story in the clip was that a local fire dept rescued a dog.
For a sec I thought Cole got stuck up on the roof again, and the dog rescued Cole.

@jl: Going back to the Cole story linked in the OP, I am another one who made it only 10 minutes into Cliffhanger – albeit for a different reason. Anyone who has ever done any climbing should want that movie beheaded and buried with a stake of holly driven through its heart.

@raven: I really do think that in D-III schools sports are done right. I blew out an ankle in during a rugby game m during my senior year. I was able to talk a professor into giving me extra time to complete a paper. It wasn’t because I was an athlete; it was because I had fucked up my ankle and was taking painkillers. If I had done it walking a dog, I would have had the same response.
ETA: My alma mater managed a three win football season this year. And no one other than players and girl/boyfriends really cares.

Around these parts we have what are called fox squirrels, or banded squirrels, they mostly have black bodies and tails but faces sort of like tiny pandas: white with black ears and noses. Saw one the other day in a neighbor’s yard eating spilled seeds from a bird feeder. It was roughly the size of a small cat.

That vid reminds me of the time I woke up at about 4am. My pit bull wasn’t in the bed, so I looked around and hit skunk stench in my hallway. Got stronger in my guest bedroom and found a hole in the window screen. Dog saw a skunk outside, he tore through the screen, got sprayed and ran inside to rub it off all over my carpet before going back outside to run around the neighborhood.
I found him a block away just jogging around, stinking to high heaven.
I was later told there are two kinds of pit bulls – those that learn not to attack skunks after the first one, and those that don’t. I had the latter kind.

@Gin & Tonic: yes I have. I found myself watching her “Lil Monsters” tour or something on HBO filmed LIVE at one of her concerts and when she was just at the piano and singing she was impeccable.
As I said, she’s just so flaky and the fashions are soo peculiar that it sometimes over shadows her really good singing chops.

@Keith P: My bff had a dog named Deckers a few decades ago, adopted from a buddy who’d lived in town. When the dog first encountered a skunk on my friend’s farm, he got sprayed, ate it anyway, and was never deterred thereafter. Deckers dug a den for himself in the crawl space under the bedroom, and summer nights were made hideous by his fragrance after these hunts. After a few seasons he’d decimated the local population.

Prove it isn’t true.

I wonder who in management that reporter pissed off to warrant that resume’ builder of a report? “Where’s Hall”? “He went home maybe an hour ago”. “Well, get his ass back here. There’s a dog on a roof and I want him on it”. “Hell, Suse and Bill and Elaine are all..”. “I said I want Hall, goddamnit”!
The same thing happened to that Air Force General who was handed what was billed as the final government report on UFO’s. His Air Force Academy buddies must have had a good laugh about his being dealt that job.
T-Bogg ran a photo of one of his bassets laying on the precipice of his very steep roof a few years ago without its parachute. Dog made it back in OK, though.

My husband was watching “Vikings” and fell asleep hours ago, and I was too lazy to turn off the TV, so now I’m watching it. If this show is historically accurate, the Vikings were every bit as horrible as ISIS. Maybe in 1300 years, the hinterlands of Iraq and Syria will be known for sleek furniture design and good governance.

I realize that only other people who live in temperate zones will sympathize with me, but it is frickin’ freezing here tonight. It’s about 50 degrees at the moment, but it’s predicted to get into the high 30s overnight. Every store I went to was sold out of space heaters, so I had to break out the down comforter.

I just checked and it is 12 degrees here in southern NH.

@Betty Cracker:
The secret is, “formerly horrible” societies do best when they convince their worst sociopaths to go piddle in other empire’s genetic pools. The Viking berserkers ended up contributing to the Redhead Myth all up and down the North Atlantic, and also along the Volga. The Nasty Dutchmen of the 1500s left their imprint in Northern Ireland & South Africa. The last violent Romans ended up in the Baltics. Hungarians, or their neighbors, still whisper about the Golden Horde…

Tommy
@Betty Cracker: I don’t know if it is remotely historically accurate. But one of the most violent TV shows I am aware of. I have to admit I got into watching it. What got at me was the teaching of children to kill. I am nothing close to a historian, but I think this is a thing often done. Be a warrior. My father was a warrior and he taught me peace and non-violence was a better idea.
