Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

How stupid are these people?

One way or another, he’s a liar.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

So very ready.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Giving up is unforgivable.

This really is a full service blog.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Ok, since no one wants to talk about NCAAF, let me just state that I made asparagus spears wrapped in prosciutto, then baked it at high temps for a bit, then shaved Parmesan slices over the top with some rough chopped basil.
    It was delish!

I don’t like FSU or Oregon, but I have decided to root for the Ducks because (a) uniforms today less obnoxious than usual and (b) I don’t like teams with “Atta boy!” decals on their helmets. You end up with guys with 86 tomahawks or buckeyes plastered all over. Srsly, everything you did this season was awesome?! You’re all winners! Decals should be reserved for “I killed an opponent on the field in mortal combat” or “I ran a kick back for a TD with a broken leg.” But wait: Oregon could have cute little Nike swoosh decals! Get me Phil Knight on line 2!

And WTF with that cartoon duck on the Oregon jersey sleeves? It looks like a drunken “I don’t remember getting a tattoo last night” tattoo.

For a while Disney gave a flat out ‘no’ to any merchandising, Walt’s letter be damned, which is why the ‘O’ became the main logo and the school tested out an abomination called ‘Roboduck’ as the on-field mascot. If you think Oregon uniforms are ugly, look up ‘oregon roboduck’.

I asked this in one of the newer threads, but since everyone seems to be here and it’s sports related:

    ok, random question/comment:

so, my folks have season tickets to the Anaheim Ducks, which means I get to go to games occasionally (including yesterday). but they do this thing, usually in the 3rd period (I think)… Wild Wing (the mascot) wears a camp jersey and they honor a member of the military, put them up on the jumbotron, run through their service/awards/etc. They get a standing ovation.

It always makes me uneasy, because it seems like such a cop out “support the troops” thing. It’s not like they’re donating money to Wounded Warriors (or some such organization). It’s not being used as an opportunity to promote the VA or hiring vets or anything like that.

Is this something that happens at a lot of stadiums/arenas now? And am I right to be uneasy about it?

I wouldn’t. I’m glad the Big 10 is winning some big games but they spent the entire regular season demonstrating that they weren’t as good as the SEC. Or the Pac 12. Or the Big 12. A sample of nine games (with two more to be played) in which they are barely over .500 doesn’t change that.

I was and tonight didn’t change my mind. The Gophers played both OSU and TCU and I thought TCU was definitely the better of those two teams. I thought both Baylor and TCU were more deserving of being in the playoff; the sample size of one game doesn’t change my mind on that, particularly given what TCU did to Ole Miss.

The SEC has had a tendency to not play non-conference road games or many games against better teams in the Power 5 conferences. The Big 10 is probably still the weakest of the Power 5, but the gap between the SEC and the rest of the Power 5 isn’t so big.

Ohio State was faster and more physical in all phases of the game .. except punting.

    @KG:

The SEC has had a tendency to not play non-conference road games or many games against better teams in the Power 5 conferences.

    Georgia/Georgia Tech
    Georgia/Cemson
    South Carolina/Clemson
    Florida/Florida State
    Tennessee/Oklahoma
    Kentucky/Louisville
    Auburn/Kansas State
    Ole Miss/Boise State
    LSU/Wisconsin

The SEC played as many tough non-conference games as anyone.

Oh, christ. A bunch of Oregon players are going to be disciplined for chanting “No means no,” after the game. I’d give them a medal.

So the BCS would have given us Alabama and FSU, Bama would have blown them out and all the SEC homers would gave said “Once again The SEC rules”

I wonder how many national titles the SEC would have won the last several years with a real playoff? How many years were #3 and 4 better than who ever they played?

By the way the vaunted SEC West that ESPN has been ramming down our throats as the best division in the history of football just saw its top 5 teams lose their bowl games.

Miss State was especially a fraud, their ranking was based on beating A&M and LSU, who both turned out to be not very good. If they were in the Pac 12 Miss State probably isn’t even bowl eligible.

  209. 209.

Bama lost all the mojo after the idiotic “taunting” penalty. that player should be on a D-III team next year.
