I’m so pissed after watching the video of those assholes with their AK-47s shooting a wounded policeman in the head when he was clearly gravely wounded and begging for his life. It’s of a piece of the rest of the cowardly, low and despicable murder they committed in the name of God today. I hope they’re captured alive, so we can see just what kind of dead-end dumbshits they are. After a trial, I hope they’re thrown in the French version of a Supermax so they can rot for the rest of their natural lives, to discourage other morons from following in their footsteps. No martyrdom for these assholes–their lives should end in Depends and false teeth long after the world has forgotten that they ever existed.

I heard on NPR about an hour ago that one of the gunmen was dead. Don’t know which one or by whose hand, and for that matter I haven’t seen any confirmation, so it may well be a false report. Agree with you about ” no martyrdom.”

I remember regretting that Timothy McVeigh had gotten the death penalty. I wanted him to live to a ripe old age, bitter unto death about the fact that his vision had failed and the world had moved on without him.

Oh for fuck’s sake. A decade of US torture has not done a goddamn thing. I don’t know the cure for this type of shit, maybe it does not exist. But an ‘eye for an eye’ doesn’t doesn’t really solve anything.
I understand your rage, and they certainly need to be locked up, and I will lose no sleep if they have an extremely rough go of it, but come on.
Do you have the same rage on those who fire drone missiles on children attending a wedding in Pakistan?

Evening BJ.
Just came from car dealership.
Say hello to my new car…2015 Hyundai Sonata! I went with a base model, but it was just off the truck, so only 5 miles (2 of which was from test drive). Someone here at Balloon Juice told me about the customer auto program that Costco has, (I think it was Mnemosyne), so I signed up for Costco so i could use the auto program discount. With the Costco discount and before my trade in, cost was at about $800 less than dealer price, add in about $1500 in rebates, and including my trade-in (which basically paid for the taxes & registration), I ended up paying well under the lowest amount of my budget outline!
Also too, I got the “platinum” warranty that I wanted at no extra charge. I also got the lower “equipment” package, which included: rearview camera, power drive seat, auto headlights, bluetooth, and touch screen display. That’s NOT covering the features that just basic for the Sonata.
All in all, I think I got a good deal. At least I feel like I did, so?

I found it interesting that all of the American media says they had “AK-47s” and the French and British media I’ve read say “Kalashnikov” (the maker of the rifle.) I wonder if it actually was a 47. The 74 is actually used by a lot more militaries than the 47 is these days.

@El Tiburon: huh? I don’t understand your comment at all.

Last thoughts this evening before I go and do somethings around the house (I spent almost 5 hours at the darn dealership).
First, I sincerely hope security has been upgraded at appropriate places here in US and also at NAACP offices both at the place where the bomb went off, and across the country. Cause that suspect is still at large, and will likely get away with that this time unless, of course, the suspect tries again.
Second, how much over-reach do we expect from US pols, especially GOP?
Third, more superficially, did anyone see Agent Carter last night? I thought it was really well done and I hope it continues. It’s only a 7 episode run, so I think it can do it. Also too, did my fellow comic book geeks catch the new AntMan trailer? What did ya’ll think of it? I love me some Paul Rudd, did ya see his abs? Wow!
Finally, anyone planning on watching the new show on Fox starring Taraji P Henson and Terrance Howard? It’s called EMPIRE. It looks good.

I have been saying for years that if the terrorists ever got hold of the IRA’s playbook then we would be in trouble. It appears that they now have. While there is publicity value in a big 911 type event the way to instill real terror is lots of smaller one or two people events like today. Because you never know when a lone gunman is going to strike. I spent 14 years worrying that some asshole was going to put a bomb under my car just because of the uniform I wore.

@lamh36: I bought a Honda Civic in San Diego in 1981. It died at 150K when I lived in RI. There were limited dealerships to choose from where I was, so my next car ended up being a 1989 Hyundai Excel. It was a real dog and I replaced almost every part twice before unloading it.
But my understanding is that Hyundai and KIA make much more reliable cars these days. Good luck.

I’m waiting for another specific thread before I start spouting off again, but IMO it has a lot to do with the fact that, however imperfectly, American Muslims are treated as just another immigrant group rather than being treated as unwelcome and potentially dangerous invaders (we save that treatment for African-Americans). Better assimilation and acceptance means fewer people who become murderously disaffected.

Not at all, the 47 was manufactured in 20+ countries for over 50 years, the 74 is made in just a couple and is used by far fewer military groups. It’s impossible to trace a 40 yr old 47, the 74 had a much thinner supply chain. There aren’t any ME countries using the 74, only former asiatic Russian allies, and the North Koreans.
So either Bulgaria (location) or the NK (method) if it’s a 74, that’s clue.

This commonly popular Nissan sedan came in three or four shades of silver / gray, a white, a black, a blue which might as well have been black, and two tans. Plus a brick red which didn’t set anything on fire.

@delk: I think it is worse. Erickson is calling gays and lesbians who say tings in public he does not like terrorists. On a day when people were killed by real terrorists with guns who murdered people for saying things in public that they did not like.
Erickson makes as much sense as he usually does. At least he is consistent.
In Erickson world, watch what you say, or you might be a terrorist. I will be charitable and conclude he is too dumb to understand anything.
Edit: but can he be that stupid. Some gays and lesbians made a public demand and gave their reasons. And… that is the same as murdering people? If those gay and lesbians made silly demands, no one was forced to pay any attention at all. And everyone went home all alive and stuff whether they did anything about the demands or not. Erickson doesn’t understand the difference?
