I’m waiting for the Christie game.

@srv: MOAR GUNZ 4 FREEDUM!!!!
raven
He we iz.
Goblue72
Let’s Go! Pat-sies!
CaseyL
I’m watching. Ravens/NE as a warm-up, with the Real Show being Seattle/Carolina later.
Hoping to see some amazing plays… and no awful injuries.
Tommy
Wow they sure made that look really, really easy. Too easy.
PaulW
should I order a pizza?
Steeplejack (tablet)
Don’t care who wins today, just hoping for good games.
And the Ravens score with a quickness! (Oops, under review.)
I do want the Packers to beat the Cowboys tomorrow.
raven
@Steeplejack (tablet): Ditto today.
Steeplejack (tablet)
@PaulW:
I was going to wait until halftime.
Steeplejack (tablet)
@PaulW:
What toppings? I’m thinking sausage, feta and black olives.
raven
@Steeplejack (tablet): We were going to this big 12th Night party tonight but the girl feels puny so now I am roasting 30 marinated wangs for household use.
Gin & Tonic
@raven: is that like a bag of salted dicks?
Steeplejack (tablet)
@raven:
I’ve been cooking/eating in since Wednesday. Chef Steep off tonight.
Steeplejack (tablet)
@Gin & Tonic:
I was thinking it but too polite to say. Also, “Phrasing!”
Betty Cracker
I’m making crabby snacks!
Rooting for the Ravens because a) I can now that Ray Lewis is gone, b) I don’t like the Pats, and c) I like Flacco.
I will root for the Seachickens in the later game. But the most interesting game this weekend for me is tomorrow’s Pack-Boys matchup. I’ll be rooting for the socialists.
raven
@Gin & Tonic: If you were here you’d know what wangs was.
Gin & Tonic
@raven: If I leave now I can be there for lunch tomorrow.
raven
@Betty Cracker: How you feelin?
Kropadope
@raven: I’m gonna go out on a limb…wings?
raven
@Kropadope: There is it!
Steeplejack (tablet)
@Betty Cracker:
I do like Flacco. Ravens, meh.
Green Bay was my team during my days of peak football idolatry, age 10-14. Bonus that it coincided with the peak of the Lombardi era. The socialism is the (belatedly discovered) frosting on the cake
Betty Cracker
@raven: A thousand times better, thanks!

@srv: Some state rep in SC is pushing for a mandatory class in public schools to teach those damn kids about the sanctity of the 2nd Amendment.
John Cole +0
I’m not skulking, I’m trying to ignore Shawn rooting for the Ravens in the next room while feeling dirty about enjoying the notion of the Patriots losing.
Steeplejack (tablet)
God, I hate that Camry ad. “Hey, whitey, get your lame-ass hoopty out of our parade!”
Violet
@Betty Cracker: How’s your stomach issue?
Violet
@John Cole +0: Has Shawn stolen the piglets and dressed them in Ravens gear?
Mike J
Just back from Fred Meyer with chicken wings.
Three football games this morning, Seahawk handegg tonight, 33 days until Red Sox truck day.
p
@efgoldman: 14-7, some life. Reven O & D lines are better. Without +2 turnovers it’ll be tough for Pats to win.
scav
A dedicated sulking thread does have possibilities though. . . with a little self-discipline and creativity . . .
Elmo
Roast lamb in a balsamic-rosemary-garlic glaze, and splitting the most gynormous baked potato I’ve ever seen. Fucker must have weighed two pounds.
Whirley-pop kettle corn later, and whoever it was who turned me on to that amazing device, thank you. I was tipsy, alone on a business trip, and there were comments here about Whirley Pop. I forget who. Anyway I bought it on Amazon on a lark to give to my wife for Christmas. We’ve used it almost every night I’ve been home. Really makes Gods own popcorn.
Mike J
Are those commercials for Tostito Rolls localised or does everybody get the 12th man Seahawk viewing party?
raven
@Elmo: God I used one forever. I used to eat popcorn every night but when I started to back of the carbs that was one thing that went. I still have mine and it is highly seasoned!
raven
@Mike J: Georgia yes.
raven
Muslim guy saved people in the market.
Mike J
@raven: Sort of a pain to shoot the same spot 32 times, but they do it with smaller numbers of variables. Bring out [Best Foods|Hellman’s] and bring out the best.
Elmo
@raven:
Three tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of coconut oil, and half a cup of the best white popping corn available. And a little salt.
Best kettle corn EVAR.
And popping corn is so CHEAP!! On Amazon I got three months worth for $15.
p.a.
Goddamnit RUN THE BALL.
trollhattan
Sea Hawks.
All the way. Don’t much care whether it’s Packers or Cowboys next week, other than the obligatory desire to see Jerry Jones catch fire.
Punchy
Is Joe Flax the NFL equiv of Maddy Bums? Guy’s just nails in the playoffs…
Betty Cracker
@Violet: Much better, thanks!
raven
@Elmo: Oh yea, that’s just what the fuck I need is sugar in popcorn.
Violet
@Betty Cracker: Glad to hear it!
raven
@efgoldman: She was great on Gameday on the Ole Miss-Bama game and I think that helped her get the gig. They can’t say too much about the teams until, you know, they know who they are!
doug r
@trollhattan: GO ‘HAWKS!
Corner Stone
Damn. 21 points in the first half for the Ravens? Who put a cattle prod up Kubiak’s ass the last two games?
James E Powell
I’d like to see the Bill & Tom Patriots win one more Super Bowl, but I took the Ravens & the points.
ETA: The refs are so inconsistent with what, exactly, is pass interference that the losing team is always going to have something to bitch about.
Steeplejack (tablet)
What the hell?! Untouched into the end zone on a screen pass.
Steeplejack (tablet)
@efgoldman:
They’re bringing it on themselves.
Corner Stone
@Steeplejack (tablet):
When your best option to stop that play is Wilfork I am going to suggest you got problems.
James E Powell
@efgoldman:
The over/under I saw was 48 – and it’s just been decided
Mike J
@efgoldman: 49ish, depending on who you ask.
Corner Stone
Ok, that was officially fucking nuts.
raven
Trickeration!
Mike J
Wow.
BruceFromOhio
Pats just rolled them up some Ravens D and smoked ’em.
Chopper
Nice.
Betty Cracker
Heckuva game!
James E Powell
These defensive battles can be tedious – let’s hope the offenses open it up in the 4th quarter.
BruceFromOhio
@raven: Tricksy Patriotses are Tricksy, precious.
@James E Powell: Ruh? There’s been 56 points scored in this contest. What seek you, a safety?
Corner Stone
Looks like the refs got their Over bet covered and are now working to get the Pats over the spread. What a two way parlay.
INT!! That breaks his streak.
raven
Pick!!!!
Corner Stone
Just a bad pass. Stared down his target the whole way and (over)threw into bracketed double coverage.
edited slightly
Corner Stone
@BruceFromOhio: C’mon , Bruce.
Corner Stone
HUGE!!
Revis is stinking up the joint.
BruceFromOhio
@Corner Stone: Where we going? Beer run? ;)
Ravens guardian angel pulls the net tight and saves their asses. Again.
James E Powell
@BruceFromOhio:
What seek you, a safety?
An audience that appreciates sarcasm
p.a.
Predicted final: Ravens 38 Pats 28.
Corner Stone
@p.a.: Mine is: Whoever kicks the first FG loses!
James E Powell
Patriots failure to get anything out of that INT is going to loom large
BruceFromOhio
@James E Powell: ROFL
Edelman’s throw is reminiscent of Randle-El of Stiller fame. PIT would pull that out at least once every couple of games, and it was nearly always successful.
Steeplejack
@James E Powell:
Srsly. A lot of people here today need a humor booster shot. See also: Miranda, Carmen.
justawriter
I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that North Dakota State won the most important game of the day.
raven
Scored too soon.
Corner Stone
That was flat out fucking nasty. What a throw and route.
raven
@justawriter: To both people in North Dakota.
Tree With Water
This is an incredibly entertaining game. It’s the game at its best.
James E Powell
@raven:
There was too much clock for them to burn – If they’d scored anything off that INT, they wouldn’t have to worry
raven
@James E Powell: If a bullfrog had wings. . .
Corner Stone
Plenty of time for Big Gunz Flacco to move the ball down the field.
Corner Stone
WOOOOO!
ETA, why the hell would you take your 2nd TO before the 2 minute warning? If you don’t make it, it’s over either way.
BruceFromOhio
@Steeplejack: Oh yeah, the Miranda Rights lady!
Ouch,
notlooking good for the minions of The Hooded One….woo hoo, fixt it!
Corner Stone
@BruceFromOhio: You were saying…
justawriter
Whoops
raven
Very nice. . .
BruceFromOhio
@Corner Stone: Works every time, Cleveland Browns excepted.
Corner Stone
And this brings back the “why” did BAL burn that TO ahead of the 2 minute warning? You could have at least forced NE to run plays with two TO’s.
Corner Stone
If they punt this in any universe near Jacoby then NE deserves to lose.
raven
Wellhowboutdat.
Steeplejack (tablet)
Okay, over to Fox. I hope Carolina doesn’t get blown out.
BruceFromOhio
Time for the sea chickens to cook up some tasty southern cat.
ETA: Edelman was QB for Kent State Golden Flashes? Sweet!
p.a.
@Corner Stone: I humble myself before a superior intellect. I’ve had much practice.
Corner Stone
@Steeplejack (tablet): The score may or may not reflect a blowout, but SEA is going to dominate CAR in all fundamental game aspects.
opiejeanne
Yeah, well, holding my breath for the next three hours is going to be tough, hoping the sea chickens aren’t about to be fricasseed.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!
raven
@opiejeanne: The fucking moron Newton may batter them with his brick head.

Brady:13 year starter, 9th conference championship game. (15th year, sat 2000, out 2008).
Let’s go Hawks. I’ve liked Pete since he was Pat’s hc despite the cheerleader/used car salesman aspect.
RobertDSC-iPad Mini
Very happy my Pats won today. On to the AFCCG.
p.a.
@p.a.: hey, i was right about total points! :-○
Steeplejack (tablet)
@Corner Stone:
Would just like to see a competitive game. Or even semi-competitive.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Here we go.
opiejeanne
@raven: Ha!
I’m just superstitious about suddenly seeing the Seahawks favored by everyone. I know, it’s silly.
opiejeanne
@p.a.: I kind of like Pete Carroll’s cheerleading. It’s a nice change from the angry screaming coaches stomping up and down the sideline.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@opiejeanne: Jim Rome is the only guy I saw/heard who picked the Panthers. Our games have all been close. We shall see.
Mike J
What’s the over/under on penalty yards against the hawks? 80? 90?
opiejeanne
@Mike J: LOL!
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
“And I’m meathead Rob Lowe, and I have cable.” That was kinda funny.
Mike J
Whoo!
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
That was a silly throw.
opiejeanne
Richard Sherman!!!
I want to see that interception again!!!
Betty Cracker
C’mon ocean-fowl!
Mike J
@opiejeanne: 35 yards of penalties against in the first quarter.
raven
No call on that shit????
BruceFromOhio
“These defensive battles can be tedious – let’s hope the offenses open it up in the 4th quarter.“
Steeplejack (tablet)
@BruceFromOhio:
LOL. Maybe work a little on your timing.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Go DeAngelo!
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Touchdown!
justawriter
That was a pretty pass
Mike J
50 yards of penalties against in the first half.
Heliopause
John Lynch is competing strongly for the Joe Theismann Color Commentary Award tonight.
opiejeanne
@Mike J: Lockettte gives me a pain. Seems to get at least two penalties called on him in every game recently.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Now there are some throws.
opiejeanne
Don’t you just love the ad by Fox News trying to get people to switch cable companies because Dish refuses to roll over during the contract negotiations.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@opiejeanne: No. They suck, and I have no interest in watching them whine with their lying asses.
opiejeanne
@Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant): Your sarcasm meter is broken.
BruceFromOhio
Not at all what I was expecting from this contest. SEA has been tricky but muted in its offense. CAR D is performing some kind of hoodwinking spell, although if Lynch has been held in reserve until now and takes on getting the ball moving, its over. CAR offense has gotten lucky, repeatedly.
@opiejeanne: Its been going around today, I hear.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@opiejeanne: I hear you; Fox just works my nerves.
Heliopause
Just toying with ’em.
justawriter
I hear the ghost of Dandy Don singing, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over.”
BruceFromOhio
Mmmm, the panther stew is now panther sautee. Waiter, check please?
p.a.
Ty Law said Pete Carroll was the best D coach he ever played for.
trollhattan
Heh. Hello end zone.
opiejeanne
@BruceFromOhio: That was a purty run after the interception.
BruceFromOhio
@opiejeanne: I’m psyched for whoever wins the DAL-GB show tomorrow and has to show up here next week. Lots of good, fun football left to play, and the sea chickens have whetted appetites nicely today.
justawriter
Kevin wants to have John Lynch’s babies
Mike J
Carolina played tougher than almost every team the Seahawks have faced. Much closer game than the score showed.
GG
Mike J
Fireworks going off non stop since game over.
Heliopause
The Bad: Seahawks played about 60% of their best game.
The Good: Seahawks played about 60% of their best game and still won by two TDs.
They’ll have to ratchet it up a few percent next week.
opiejeanne
@Heliopause: That and get Lockette to calm down just a bit. He got popped twice in succession for off-sides in a game a couple of weeks ago, today it was twice early in the game with a penalty for taunting and for something else that I can’t remember. Penalties for stupid things.
opiejeanne
@Mike J: Yes. They did. There were a couple of opportunities that they didn’t or couldn’t take advantage of.
I couldn’t believe that business with Chancellor jumping over the the line to get to the kicker, twice.
Mike J
@opiejeanne: He saw Daren Bates succeed with it I think.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZP2rKl3hd4
opiejeanne
@Mike J: We watched that game and were astonished when it worked, and that he even did that.
Heliopause
@opiejeanne:
Lockette is indeed good (or bad) for one or two these a game. One thing I’ll say in his defense; tossing the ball at your opponent is unsportsmanlike, so is standing over a prone opponent and glowering. Naturally, the refs didn’t call the latter.
Doesn’t matter. The Seahawks had a historical negative penalty differential this season and it hasn’t stopped them yet.
