    U.S. Representative Massie Proposes Repeal of Federal Gun-Free School Zones Act

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced H.R. 86, the Safe Students Act, which would repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990.

    The bill, originally introduced by Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) in 2007, repeals the Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) of 1990, which makes it “unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.” In 1995, the Supreme Court held the GFSZA unconstitutional, which prompted Congress to amend the bill in 1996. The Supreme Court has not ruled on the constitutionality of the amended Act.

    “Gun-free school zones are ineffective. They make people less safe by inviting criminals into target-rich, no-risk environments,” said Massie. “Gun-free zones prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves, and create vulnerable populations that are targeted by criminals.”

    I will root for the Seachickens in the later game. But the most interesting game this weekend for me is tomorrow’s Pack-Boys matchup. I’ll be rooting for the socialists.

    Whirley-pop kettle corn later, and whoever it was who turned me on to that amazing device, thank you. I was tipsy, alone on a business trip, and there were comments here about Whirley Pop. I forget who. Anyway I bought it on Amazon on a lark to give to my wife for Christmas. We’ve used it almost every night I’ve been home. Really makes Gods own popcorn.

    Not at all what I was expecting from this contest. SEA has been tricky but muted in its offense. CAR D is performing some kind of hoodwinking spell, although if Lynch has been held in reserve until now and takes on getting the ball moving, its over. CAR offense has gotten lucky, repeatedly.

    The Good: Seahawks played about 60% of their best game and still won by two TDs.

    They’ll have to ratchet it up a few percent next week.

    @Heliopause: That and get Lockette to calm down just a bit. He got popped twice in succession for off-sides in a game a couple of weeks ago, today it was twice early in the game with a penalty for taunting and for something else that I can’t remember. Penalties for stupid things.

    Lockette is indeed good (or bad) for one or two these a game. One thing I’ll say in his defense; tossing the ball at your opponent is unsportsmanlike, so is standing over a prone opponent and glowering. Naturally, the refs didn’t call the latter.

    Doesn’t matter. The Seahawks had a historical negative penalty differential this season and it hasn’t stopped them yet.
