Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Email from dedicated commentor Yutsano:

I will be in Seattle from January 17th through the 21st. Other than a couple of doctor’s appointments I have zero plans for the evening at this time and would LOVE to get the Seattle area juicers together! Mind posting this up so we can try to make a last-minute plan? I can do as much coordinating as necessary.

So, who’s got free time this weekend? You can email me (click on my name in the right-hand column, or annelaurie (at) verizon (dot) net) and I’ll forward your message to Yutsano, or you can discuss in the comments here.

Seattle? Jeez, wrong Washington. How ’bout us poor, overlooked souls out east, here?

@Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et al.): Who’s stopping you from organizing your own meetup?

I thought Yatsuno lived in Seattle? At least I think he did, when the last Seattle meetup happened (which I think was July 2013 at Pike Place Brewing).

For anyone who has interest, I will be in Los Angeles next month and would be down for meeting up on the evening of February 7th (Saturday). It’ll be my last night in town, and having some good company and better beer sounds better than me chowing down In-N-Out by my lonesome on Santa Monica beach – open to catching up pretty much any time, as my flight back to NY on Sunday morning ain’t super-early (10:30 AM or so).

@PsiFighter37: I think he’s moved about five times since you were there.

@PsiFighter37: Library Ale House (on Main Street, near the Venice border) is just one suggestion for (better) burgers and a pretty decent selection of beer.

Well, damn: I’ll be at Whidbey Island that weekend – but will be available the 20th and 21st in the evening.

@CaseyL: I’m not leaving until the evening of the 21st, so anything is pretty much wide open.

@bago: Coming for medical stuff not work. So if I go anywhere near it will be incidental.

hurrah! Let’s make this happen — I need an excuse to ditch the baby for a couple of hours. HOWEVER if there’s any chance we could meet up someplace that a) does not have horrible parking and b) is nowhere near the game I’d be super-pleased. Oh, and c) not Monday.

IOW I guess I’ve just ruled out (for myself) Belltown, Capitol Hill, downtown proper, and frankly anything other than North Seattle on Saturday night.

This is why I never leave the house any more.

@Elie: 2 hours north? That sounds suspiciously like Canada. Any chance of coming to Canada?
