No pups tonight, had to wait on a vet and they will be arriving tomorrow. The puppies are a boy and a girl, so I am going to tentatively call them Thurston and Lovey, since mom’s name is Ginger.
Devon (the peddler) says that they are the smallest puppies she has dealt with in a long, long time because they are so young. She said they look like little blobs.
Kinda wish they were here now. WHERE ARE MY PUPPIES?
satby
Puppy yawns! Sqeeee!
Just Some Fuckhead
I think you should call them Zip and Zap. You don’t want to listen to them Howell all night.
gogol's wife
SQUEEEE!
Wait, does that make Tina Louise Jim Backus’s mother?
tybee
what is it about the smell of puppies?
Mnemosyne (iPhone)
POOPIES! (Both for the news and the animals.) Didn’t your sister explain to the vet that you have a fairly vast audience waiting to see them?
Anabasis
Puppies are so cute!!!
Percysowner
So cute! You know, the puppies will be adopted very quickly and you will eventually adopt their mother. I’ve worked rescues, this is what will happen.

John Cole @ Top:
Ginger as mother to the Howells? That sounds kind of kinky.
Maybe you should name them Professor and Maryanne instead? Although, come to think of it, that sounds like it might be even kinkier.
Hmmm.
Mike E
Well, damn…I helped name a doggie! :-)
kindness
Short legs. How old are the pups?
JCT
You are doomed, John.
pat
Wait, what..??
Two tiny puppies are about to join the Cole household that already houses two dogs and a Maine Coon cat?
When did this all happen?
And what could possibly go wrong? ?
Pogonip
If you’re going to be kinky about it, why not call them Jamie and Cersei?
Drunken hausfrau
So, ok, who’s making book on how long until Cole adopts the whole brood?
3 days. Thurston, lovey, ginger get absorbed into the Lily, Rosie, Steve Borg.
Anne Laurie
As I’m sure your mom will attest, when you were that age, so did you!
Jane2
Little puppy squeaks!! Adorable.
BruceFromOhio
Devon (the peddler)
Does she know this?
Pogonip
@pat: Well, he’s got gates for their room, which usually gets the go-away message across to a dog, and at least one of John’s dogs seems to do nothing but sleep anyway. The cat, who fortunately is a Maine Coon with a lot of warm hair, may have to bunk in the garage for the duration; we already know he has a good hunting instinct, so to him those high-pitched squeaks will translate as ” Eat me!”. No puppies for him.
realbtl
When I got my first German Shorthair Pointer puppy it picked up a book on the breed. I’ll never forget one phrase in it regarding puppies; “numerous naughty deeds.” Good luck John.
realbtl
@realbtl: Should be “I” not “it.” FYWP
PurpleGirl
@pat: Worse than that — he will also be fostering the mom dog, named Ginger. He posted about it last night.

Little Boots
oh, good lord, dogs.
Tommy
Cole it appears your sister is just a tease isn’t she. Dangling those adorable puppies out in front of you then not letting them come home to your house for a visit. Tease!
Pogonip
@tybee: They’re too young to roll in foul rotting carcasses?
(Remember that Far Side cartoon of the dogs on a date: “Ginger [!], you look lovely, and whatever you rolled in sure does stink.”)
pat
@PurpleGirl:
Seems my reply has been eated, but thanks for the info,
and Devon… Awwwwwww
Who could resist?
Little Boots
you should see that other place.
no omnes. no steeplejack. just …
weirdness.
Pogonip
@realbtl: I was going to say, that was one hell of a smart dog!
Jane2
@Little Boots: They’re puppies, not mere dogs.
Little Boots
it’s a madhouse.
and you people have seen this asylum, but it’s worse.

You name them, Cole, you own them. ;^)

@Drunken hausfrau: you looking at over/under or money line dates?
pat
@pat:
Missed that, I think Devon is the sister and Ginger is the mom dog.
Too much merlot..??
Pogonip
@Little Boots: What other place? Not “the” other place, I hope. POPE: Remember when I said pets go to heaven? Well, that leads us to an unpleasant deduction about hell…
Little Boots
@Pogonip:
well….
but I did mean some other website, but now that you mention it …
PurpleGirl
@pat: Yes, Devon is Cole’s sister and Ginger is the mom dog.
pat
@PurpleGirl:
And Ginger is adorable. Let us hope for pictures..!
Ms. Skink in AZ
Hey John Cole, are you going to be bottle feeding them or are they on wet food? You know how often you need to bottle feed, right? My Bruno was my foster fail puppy 3 years ago, just did not have the heart to give him back to the shelter. Good Luck!
Little Boots
why does everyone encourage this man?
seefleur
So why on earth am I majorly disappointed that the pups and mom aren’t at this moment snuggled into Casa de Cole??? I feel like I’m being toyed with. And yes, as a lowly lurker, I am guessing that Ginger is going to be a very happy girl in the Cole household and the infant pups will be directed to awesome forever-homes via Mr. Cole and his oh-so-clever sibling. BTW – never under estimate the power of siblings – in this case, it was for awesome/good.

This is off topic, but if you have not seen this post at Daily Kos it both funny and spot on accurate at the same time. I had not seen until now because I stop my normal reading news 24/7 Satuday by taking a long nap this afternoon, which was a very enjoyable thing I might add.
As many have said here and elsewhere, the Republican primary is going to be like a clown car. But also as somebody that thinks we need at least two (if not more) strong and also “rational” political parties to debate the issues of the day it is more than a little sad.
MomSense
John, thank you for doing this. Puppies will rock your world but it is so worth it. Whenever I call my little one she bounds over and gives me lots of kisses. I’ve taken to sitting on the floor so she can snuggle.
PurpleGirl
@Little Boots: Because Cole is a good man with a big heart who loves animals. (And we love seeing the pictures and hearing about his pet adventures.)
Little Boots
@PurpleGirl:
I kinda love him too, and the dog he rode in on.

@Pogonip: I have had to keep new puppy Flora well separated from my two cats. Snarla of blessed memory was over six months when I got her 13 years ago and they avoided her as much as possible. Flora is, however, only 10 weeks old and the look on the face of one of the cats at first sight was “Oh, goodie. Snacks!” Flora of course suffers from the delusion that they must want to play. Fortunately I have a lot of time to devote to puppy tending.

@efgoldman:
Well, he’s guaranteed himself a sympathetic audience!
Or, as a dear sweet Suthron lady of my acquaintance used to say about one of those dysfunctional couples where the individual’s separate craziness-es interlocked so they couldn’t stay away from each other no matter how many times the neighbors called the cops, “Isn’t it nice when two kindred souls find each other?”
NotMax
Strictly FYI, Lovey’s real first name was Eunuce.
NotMax
Ooh, ooh, Mr. Kotter! You could name them Charlie and Hebdo!

@efgoldman: Amazingly:
The state of Georgia permits single LGBT individuals to petition to adopt?
Yes.
The state of Georgia permits a same-sex couple to jointly petition to adopt?
No explicit prohibition.
The state of Georgia permits a same-sex partner to petition to adopt partner’s child or child of the relationship?
No explicit prohibition.
I actually know an interracial gay couple that has adopted in Atlanta.
raven
More:
“Second parent adoptions in Georgia are the solution to how gay and lesbian couples can both be the legal parents of their child. Unfortunately, Georgia still doesn’t allow same-sex marriage, so stepparent adoption is unavailable. But second parent adoption is the next best thing. Some Georgia counties will grant second parent adoptions, but others will not. Georgia residents that live in Fulton and DeKalb and Athens-Clarke counties should generally be able to obtain a second parent adoption, but those in other counties may not have a local option.”

Cutest pups! I’d sure hate MY sister if she forced me into taking them in (grinning)

Those puppies are adorable. So little! And those squaks and that yawn! Awwww…. Too cute. I hope they arrive at Casa Cole pronto.

Nah, the French poodle heredity wouldn’t be fazed even un petit peu.
Another Holocene Human
@raven: The US had second parent adoption first (except Florida!!!) and same sex marriage later (sometimes much later). Europe had same sex marriage and/or domestic partnership first and second parent adoption later. Europeans have different attitudes towards children and families than Americans do, in that their conservatives are cross-humping retrogrades for whom homosexuality and church-children-kitchen are incompatible, what’s next, gay priests?, while our conservatives are Jebus-loving throwbacks who think of the post-born as little burdens and/or cash cows (foster system, family court) who should have a mom and dad unless the state doesn’t officially recognize the the relationship or there’s no “good, [white,] Christian parent” suing for custody, then who gives a flip about the little shits.
Another Holocene Human
Random, but anybody ever noticed that the first world countries with the worst replacement birth rates are not only the richest countries but also the most sexist, requiring women to drop out of careers if they get preggers, cutting women out of certain jobs, stuff like that?
Italy–mega sexist. Germany–sexist. Japan–super sexist.
In all of these countries if women refuse to marry or have kids they can keep having a job for longer and longer … age of marriage is rising for Japanese women, for example.
In the US women just basically say ‘fuck it’ and have a baby, even if they have to fight to keep their job. There’s discrimination but it’s not a total freeze out job/career wise. Even though our family leave sucks it’s more what happens to you after you take that leave or hell before, when your employer is making all sorts of condescending assumptions about your career path. But, for example in Germany, a German professor told me it is quite rare for German women to get PhD’s even today. (German MS is like US PhD, so maybe it’s like really tough post-doctoral fellowship in US terms? Talking sciences here I guess, even though professor in question was teaching literature.) In Germany and France it is or was common for women to finish 13th grade with a diploma and never go to college, just start working a semi-professional job, apparently you could teach with this certificate, for example, like the US before ‘professionalization’.

Where are YOUR puppies? Where are OUR puppies???

@KG: I was thinking over/under. My son says it’s a sucker bet — he says one hour after puppies and mom arrive!
