    Google Maps says it’s a 3:10 drive from Portland, so Bob should hit the road pretty soon if he’s going to make it. I don’t know what traffic is like out there on the other side. You drive on the right side of the road, don’t you?

    While standing on my porch minutes ago (about 700 miles due south of Seattle), a large, unseen flock of small birds began to shrilly tweet in unison- like a symphony that suddenly swelled. I looked up and craned my neck, and sure enough circling above, in low orbit, were two hawks. You won’t see that in a city…
