Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Republicans in disarray!

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

You cannot shame the shameless.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Someone was passed out cold in her crate last night:

gingersleeping

She’s really a good little doggie- full of energy, obedient, let’s you know when she has to go out and potty, comes when you call, etc. She’s a little bit of a beggar, and she loves her treats and her belly rubs, too. She is going to make a really good dog for someone once I find her a home. She’d be a great starter dog.

You may as well abandon the pretense that she’s going anywhere. And maybe she shouldn’t. Seems happy where she is.

Has the rest of your menagerie shown any interest in her or her puppies?

German breeders criticize pope’s comments about rabbit sexuality

BERLIN – The pope’s comment that Catholics don’t have to breed “like rabbits” has caused offense — among Germany’s rabbit breeders.

Pope Francis said Monday that Catholics should instead practice “responsible parenting” and use Church-approved forms of birth control.

But Erwin Leowsky, president of the central council of German rabbit breeders, told news agency dpa on Tuesday that only rabbits which live in the wild are sexually overactive.

He said those in captivity have tamer reproductive habits.

Leowsky says he feels the pope should allow Catholics to use contraception rather than resorting to misleading cliches about rabbits.

@John Cole +0: In your first post, before they showed up at your house, you posted:

Devon (my sister), used the old foot in the door technique on me, asking me if I would take care of a 10 year old poodle and her puppies, and I agreed. Then she told me that she had been mistreated and her toenails had grown in her pad. And oh, btw, they think she has breast cancer. Can you still do it?

I had two thoughts simultaneously- “Devon, you bitch” and “I could quite possibly be the worst person in the world if I don’t take care of this dog.”

That’s why we’re concerned about her feet.

You said you were going to take her to the doggie spa (but she didn’t get there in time over the weekend). You still going to get her hair cut or wait til the pups are a bit bigger so they can be separated for half a day?

  17. 17.

    SuperHrefna

    January 20, 2015 at 5:39 pm

Ginger! What a good doggie. I wish I was in a position to offer her a home, but I just can’t. The two people I live with refuse to even consider sharing houseroom with a dog. Cats yes, dogs no. It’s blatant speciesism, but what can you do? At least they treat my cats like small, furry royalty, which goes down well with the four feets.

But I’ll tell you Cole, if you can find good homes for Ginger, Thurston and Lovey go for it. I know people will howl, but all it means is that you’ll have the opportunity to foster again, and the world needs good foster homes. I’ve fostered kittens, and parting with the darlings once they get their forever homes is tough, but it’s part of the process that lets people provide safe spaces for needy animals without ending up as tragic case studies on Confessions: Animal Hoarders.

@John Cole +0: A shame; she sounds happy there, and she’d definitely be well cared for.

But if you’re dead certain about finding her a new home, a couple-three nights ago Mary G. near/on the Left Coast sounded like she might be in the market for an older dog. I don’t really know how serious she was about that – might have been just a case of the momentary awwwww‘s – but if she has sustained interest, I’d help out on transportation and whatnot, and I’m guessing other folks might be willing as well.

Completely off topic, but this Tomato Achaar is one of the best condiments I have ever tasted. Just blissful. You can order it from Brooklyn Delhi I just spread some on toast and then melted cheese over it and now I’m looking forward to a quick supper from heaven. The first time I ordered I got both the tomato and gooseberry achaars, this time I got the garlic and rhubarb ones too. So looking forward to trying them all out but for tonight it’s tomato bliss all the way. With mean beans from Ricks Picks on the side. Hipster bliss :-)

Not only is Ginger one of the cutest dogs ever photographed, she is a poodle. Besides being so wonderfully smart, poodles are also hypoallergenic. People allergic to other animals can often have poodles. Their wooly, curly coats are more like sheep than other dogs. They also don’t really shed.

If her health issues aren’t really serious, finding sweet Ginger a home probably going to be a lot easier than letting her go.

My daughter just lost a 10-year-old Soft Coated Wheaton terrier and her remaining dog is very lonely. She is looking for another mature, non-shedding dog. I’m a vet and can take care of her spay and look into any other health problems prior to placing her with my daughter.

I’ll take her if you’re still looking for a permanent home. Just email me if still interested.

I once met a kid carrying a ( very sweet) Yorkie in a tote bag just deep enough for the dog to peek out of it. ” So how do the girls like her?” I asked. He blushed, laughed, and said, “Pretty well!”

We had poodles throughout childhood years because my sister had asthma. She was fine. Guess every dog is different. Sorry Fuzzy was triggering. Didn’t know poodles were triggering. So guess if asthma is an issue, poodles are not for everyone. But for people with dog allergies, poodles can be tolerated when other dogs can’t.

But if @Capri: is a vet, that certainly sounds like Ginger’s luck has changed and a great fit. Especially with health issues a consideration.
