Just because you have a platform, doesn’t mean you should always use it. We’re looking at you, actor Anthony Mackie:
“Like my nephew wanted to grow dreadlocks. I’m like fine, I’ll sit you down and I’ll watch The First 48 with you and everybody you see on that show, that’s doing something wrong, they’re black dudes with dreadlocks. So, do you want to be seen as part of the problem or do you want to be an individual?”
Ah, yes. Those respectability politics that work so well. Just ask Don Lemon.
Team Blackness also discussed the State of the Union both before and broke it down after President Barack “I have no more elections to run. I know because I won both of them” Obama set the room on fire.

It isn’t dreadlocks that set off alarm bells in my mind, it’s guys that look like Scott Walker or Ted Cruz. They remind me of every crooked car salesman, middle manager and insurance salesman I’ve ever had to deal with.

On that Obama zinger: The GOP can go fuck themselves if they’re complaining. They asked to be zapped by clapping happily that Obama is not eligible to run again. They brought a knife to a gunfight and got shot.

Damn Falcon. Don’t cloud my love of The Winter Soldier.

“Pressed up against the wall cause you was wearin’ locks”
Oh, you mean that all that “yellin at the cops” had absolutely nothing to do with it?
I do, actually understand the problems that young black men may have with the police. Not as well as some, because I live where things aren’t as bad as they are in some other places. But maybe better than some, too, because I have raised both black and white sons. Believe me, I taught all of them not to react to the police as enemies.
My experience has been that cops don’t really like young men much. I suspect that they suspect all young men of being the kind of young men they were, when they were young men.
