Steve seems to be taking the snowstorm in stride:
For size reference, that is a full sized briefcase that carries a 17″ macbook pro behind him. This is a massive beast.
And even though he is the most prepared for inclement weather out of EVERYONE in this household, he hates the cold weather. If the wind so much as ruffles his fur, he gives us a shitty look and turns around and goes back inside.

He needs some toughening up.

my sister lives in Moon Township nearby and she isn’t so scared of the snowstorm

Makes a democrat wonder WTF is the use?
“WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Tuesday will announce a proposal to open up coastal waters from Virginia to Georgia for oil and gas drilling, according to a person briefed on the plan…”.

He is adorable. He looks just like my dear, dearly departed Nico. Every time I see his picture, my heart leaps into my throat for just a fraction of a second. Nico was half-Persian, though, so she was smaller, with shorter legs. She was just the best. Absolutely the best.
Okay, shit, now I’m upset.
So Spawn the Elder started getting sick yesterday, had a 104 fever last night. Took her to the doctor today, and she has the flu AND strep throat. So I told her I would get her whatever she wanted to eat, and she wanted some ice cream. She ate a little bit of dinner, then the ice cream, then took her first dose of Tamiflu….and promptly barfed it all right back out onto the living room floor. So Spawn the Younger is now on prophylactic Tamiflu, and I have to see if I can get it for all the adults in the house, too.
I am tired.

PAPA STEVEDORE HEMINGWAY!!! Proper authoritahs will be alerted.
Getting all the pre op stuff going. So far boss hasn’t balked at the number of leave requests, but that’s probably because I’m only taking the last hour of the day off. And the eye doc stays open until 5:30, so that’s sweet.

Skweeee! Sir Willie Whiskertons III is looking fat and sassy and soooo handsome. He’s such a chill cat. Stay safe and dry, Cole!

@Yatsuno: Eye doc? I thought it was hip/back stuff?? One hates to be misinformed.
@asiangrrlMN: Hi!
Yatsuno
@Omnes Omnibus: Well I have to squeeze that in before going under the knife. So it goes into the planning phase.
@asiangrrlMN: Hello wifey dear! I think I should alert you when Sister Sarah is posting since she’s been around more lately.

Steve! Good kitty! How’s he adapting to Ginger and the pups?

Golly. When I had knee surgery, I arranged food, drink, music, and movies for my recovery. And I thought I was thorough.
Suzanne
@Yatsuno: What are you doing to your eyes? Lasik?
Suzanne
@Omnes Omnibus: When I had surgery, i drew an arrow pointing to where to cut on myself with a marker. I also brought my surgical team bagels. Turned out half of them hadn’t eaten breakfast, so they were happy I did that. Best $15 ever spent.

@Omnes Omnibus: Sorry, no, but it’s front page NY Times..

Thanks for pet pic. Steve knows how to survive a blizzard.
@asiangrrlMN: Hey there! Hope you’re doing well.
You like the cold. Been out sunbathing this winter yet?

I am watching the “Sons of Liberty” show on the History channel. Aside from the fact that they made Sam Adams and others far younger than they were, I do think it is kind of cool that Sam Adams and John Hancock were staying at one of my ancestor’s homes when Gage’s troops came for them and the weaponry at Concord – leading to the battles of Lexington and Concord.

@asiangrrlMN: Hey there! Good to see you around here. How’s things?

If we get the slightest chill in our house, pretty soon you’ll find a motionless lump in the comforter on our bed. Say “Boo?” softly, and the lump will move just a little and let out a small “mew.” Boo hates the cold.
Yatsuno
@Suzanne: I have the last slot of the day thanks to his AWESOME nurse. But doughnut distribution might be a possibility.
Not Lasik, just the annual check. Which is important because of a strong family history of macular degeneration. Isn’t genetics a hoot?
Suzanne
@Yatsuno: A hoot. Yes.
Though genetics has yet to explain why I still have acne when I am THIRTY FUCKING FIVE. I can’t be HRC’s VP with zits.

#ruinaweddingin5words is killing me in twitter tonight. I don’t think being snowbound is going to work well for me. By tomorrow afternoon I’ll probably start picking fights with love sick teens on tumblr.

Those aren’t puppies, Cole.
Kitty is just on the leather sofa here in SF though, we’re in the part of the year where it’s warm.

Our last two cats have had the idea that in cold weather they can go to the front door and I will hold it open while they sit there and stare into the abyss, and while the house and outdoors equalize in temperature. “Ooohh I wanna go out! No it’s too cold! Can I just sit here and look out?” “No, silly fucking cat. The door is closing.”

That’s a massive surgical squadron. Less than $6 gets a dozen bagels here. The good, large ones.

@Omnes Omnibus: This is all happening before. Which is even more fun! Since it will be my main driving leg that they’ll be taking out temporarily.
@Suzanne: I’m older than you and still get them, But so does my mom. Comes with the baby face I guess.

I wonder if anyone has ever won a regional Emmy or Pulitzer for snow storm coverage. Those reporters asking random people probing questions about why they are out or what they are planning to do during the storm. Those images of empty train stations. Tomorrow, the breaking story of kids sledding. This is what news is all about.

Nice pic, where’s Ginger?

Anne Laurie
@Don K: Our cats must be indoor cats, because there’s a road with heavy truck traffic 25 feet from the front door, and a gun club on the other side of that road. But our latest rescue cat is determined to prove that we are not the boss of HIM, and will shoot out the door if we incautiously leave it open longer than 0.5 seconds. (You’d think he’d know better, after having been recovered eating garbage out of a dumpster in a Sears lot, but: Cat.) We came home from our last pre-blizzard run just as the wind was whipping up, Rocket raced toward the door, caught a hint of the weather, and stopped dead in his lanky Oriental tracks.
Now he’s made at us, because we laughed at him.
Tommy
I am watching the Daily Show from last night and I can’t believe I am about to say this, but somehow seeing the clips from the Republican hopefuls in Iowa I might have underestimated the clown car show the primary is going to be.
Tommy
@Anne Laurie: My cat has no desire to go outside. Not sure I could even force her to if I wanted. I am thankful for this because the street outside of my house has a lot of trucks on it going way above the 25 MPH speed limit. Plus I live on the edge of a rural town (couple thousand acre field in front of my house) and I think it is safe to say she isn’t on the top of the food chain. A couple years ago my cats sister got out and she never made it back. Broke my heart.
Diana
@Don K: ah, yes, a cat searching for the famous door into summer.

Mid-blizzard here in inland CT. Will take the time to try, again, to get a brownie recipe that gives me the chewy I want and the predictability I need.
Ghirardelli’s Double Chocolate box mix is the only box mix of anything I use, and even then with a perfectly temped oven I bake them 8 minutes longer than the upper range. No “insert toothpick” test. And they’re not overdone, but chewy when they cool.
Any recipe suggestions would be appreciated. My instinct is to try the chewy brownie from my Cooks Illustrated book.

@Suzanne: Oh, NOW you tell me. Wife had surgery yesterday, second of the doctor’s day though, might not have worked as well.

@Suzanne: Aw hell Honey, I’ve been through menopause (yeah hot flashes!) and I still get acne. There’s a Neutrogena cleanser that’s designed for me that’s supposed to be for acne and wrinkles. Give it a try, although at 30 you won’t need the wrinkle component for a while.

I love Steve, almost as much as I do my own two cats.

@ThresherK: Here’s my favorite brownie recipe: It’s called Lovey’s Brownies.
2 sticks margarine or butter
4 oz unsweetened chocolate (or 3/4 cup cocoa and 1/4 cup vegetable oil)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 t. salt
Preheat oven to 350, lightly grease a 13x9x2 inch pan.
In a large pan, melt margarine over low heat, add chocolate and stir until mixed and melted. Remove from heat, add sugar and mix, add eggs one at a time and mix until shiny. Add vanilla, add flour and salt and mix. Bake 30 minutes.
Mike E
@ThresherK: Baker’s chocolate… orange pkg I think, recipe on the back. Chewy every time I make’em.
Montarvillois
@ThresherK: Brownies- Easy, fast, & best tasting
Butter (or HARD margarine) 1/2 cup
Cocoa, sifted if lumpy 1/4 cup
Large eggs 2
Granulated sugar 1 cup
All-purpose flour 3/4 cup
Chopped walnuts (optional) 1/2 cup
Salt 1/8 tsp.
Heat butter & cocoa in small, heavy saucepan on low, stirring occasionally, until smooth.
Beat eggs in medium bowl until frothy. Add next 4 ingredients and cocoa mixture. Stir well.
Spread evenly in greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Bake in 350 oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until edges show signs of pulling away from sides of pan and wooden pick inserted in centre comes out moist but not wet with batter. Do not over bake. (Personally, I find 25 minutes produces a nice moist brownie. They will dry out quickly if you over bake.)
