Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Is trump is trying to break black America over his knee? signs point to ‘yes’.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

You cannot love your country only when you win.

All hail the time of the bunny!

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

This fight is for everything.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

We will not go back.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Bark louder, little dog.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Ginger Update

My friend’s Harry and Chatman were finally able to make it over to meet Ginger, Thurston, and Lovey, and Harry is shocked at how big the puppies are in general, but especially when compared to Ginger. They were perfect little angels and let them hold them and played with them and then put on a show wrestling, and apparently my instincts were right about holding them a lot and socializing them with the other animals, and Harry thinks there will be no problem adopting them out.

Since they are somewhat nibbling on solid wet food now, Harry is taking Ginger in on Tuesday and is going to remove her tumor, check for worms and heartworm, check for any issues, and fix her so there will be no more puppies. Regarding the tumor, he thinks since it is just one massive tumor and not multiple little ones, it might just be fixed with surgery alone. Which is good news.

No pictures because it was chaotic, but thought you all would like the good news. So… surgery on Tuesday, come home Wednesday, and we will bottle and soft food feed the pups for the day. Then, on Friday, I am taking Ginger to the spa for a grooming to get her all dolled up so she can start auditioning for her forever home.

Sorry there are no pictures, but thank you very much for the update. It sounds very promising. (Although I must chuckle when you talk about “adopting out” the pups. Don’t know about Lovey, but Thurston seems destined to become a permanent fixture at Chez Cole.)

@SiubhanDuinne: No- they are be adopted out. I don’t adopt puppies because they are so easy to home. Other than Tunch, I have made a conscious decision to get only older dogs and cats, although Rosie chose me. I tried to home her out but she just stuck.

Such great news. I just went over and woke my cat up to kiss her. Nobody seemed to want her as a kitten and she is a rock star. The best pet anybody could have. Hard for me to imagine Mather not being in my house. Those puppies are going to find a good home because of you and that means something to me. Well means a lot to a lot of folks here. Rock on man!

When I hear of Cole talking about this I recall a story. My former co-worker had 14 Greyhounds. That is what he did. Think he’d tell you it was he works 24/7 to rescue Greyhounds in his free time. Heck he met his wife online, on a Greyhound message board. I should note at this point she is smoking hot. Who knew there are attractive women on Greyhound messages boards :).

The company we worked for went virtual. It was amazing to watch us all fan out from DC. He bought a large house in SC. Many acres and a kennel. I was like you are going to put your dogs in the kennel. He snapped back me, nope his dogs are his family. He would not put them in a kennel. He said they will use the kennel to raise money to rescue more Greyhounds.

If Cole isn’t in this area, and this is an area I support, he is close.

Any photog majors at the local college? Let them shoot the pups with proper lighting etc. Good practice for them, better pics for you.

Good. In NY and NJ, it’s the law that dogs and cats from shelters have to be spayed or neutered if you are to adopt them. (I wish it were the case with pet shop dogs and kittens, too) At the shelter I adopted ours from, you could adopt them, but you had to wait a day for the spaying before you could take them home. It’s horrible to think about, but as it is a kill shelter (it was the one Animal Control dumped animals at, so they had to take everything), they didn’t want to spend the resources spaying or neutering unless the animal was getting a home.

Please post pictures of Ginger after her trip to the beauty parlor!

I still want to adopt Ginger when she is well enough to travel. I can take a plane to Pittsburgh which according to the Google is only an hour away from JR’S house. A rental car, motel that takes pets, fly home with her. I take my trash out every night since we get so many ants here and I don’t want to use a lot of chemicals.

John is doing a good job as a foster parent. It would be nice if he would continue to foster puppehs or even kittehs. He has the right idea about the goal of fostering the babies.

I think it would great if Mary G could adopt Ginger. John should put his sister in contact with Mary G, to do all the legal stuff that is needed. Goddess, John Cole is amazing as is the blog, in what it can do to help people and animals.

Although I believe Cole will be keeping him, my John and I have discussed the possibility of homing Thurston Howl. He’s too cute. But we may not be realistic about our ability to take on a puppy. We really need an older, but still young (a year or two old) dog. The county Humane Society is just across the street, so we’ll mosey over there some day soon.

Great news about Ginger. Can’t wait to see her groomed!

@geg6: John should, and probably will, let Thurston go; if he keeps adding dogs, sooner or later somebody won’t get along. It’s not so hard to let the cuties go when you know more will be coming along, so maybe he’ll take more dogs with puppies (God knows there are plenty of them, sadly).

I missed that about Ginger having a tumor. Poor baby, hoping everything goes well for her and that later she gets all purty for her close-up.

A few years ago I had to call our town’s Animal Control to pick up two abandoned dogs near my house (right next to the Parkway, no less.) As they were lifting them into the van I noticed one had a large growth/tumor on his neck. Wondered if that’s why they were dumped/the son-of-a-bitch owner didn’t want to be bothered with taking care of it.

So, if Ginger comes back positive for worms you’ll need to deworm the pups because I’ve recently learned that moms can spread some worms to their young. Willie had roundworms (SO GROSS YOU GUYS) and when I asked where a (then) 4-mos-old puppy could get roundworms from the vet said probably passed on from mom.

Willie is now 7 mos. and a perfect angel (most of the time), providing I can get him over his poop-eating and his shoe fetish. Doing well on both counts.

Caught him nibbling on the antique dining table leg the other day but fortunately it was the same leg that our pitbull nearly destroyed. One day we’ll get the table refurbished ….
