Hrmm:
Todd Akin is considering a primary challenge to Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) in 2016.
“I have not ruled anything out,” the former congressman and 2012 GOP Senate nominee told The Hill in a phone interview on Wednesday.
“I think there is a high level of dissatisfaction among conservatives, that they have to some degree been pushed out of the Republican Party,” he continued. “The sentiment is there. The Tea Party is skeptical and wants some fresh blood, not just the same establishment guys.”
Akin’s reemergence is sure to be an unwelcome development for national Republicans.
During his 2012 race against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), the Republican triggered a firestorm of criticism from both Democrats and fellow Republicans for saying that women rarely get pregnant from “legitimate rape” during a discussion about why abortion should be illegal in all cases, even rape and incest.
Could Akin bring two Democratic Senators to DC?
Death Panel Truck
How anyone can say that with a straight face is beyond me.

Sorta like vampires.

I think the GOP’s hatred for losers will outweigh their hatred of the “establishment” in Akin’s case. I think even some of the teabaggers know they straight-up threw that seat away because he was the nominee. On what issues has Blunt deviated from the party line anyway? I can’t think of any offhand.
Their new strategy is to find people just as batty as Akin, declare them to be totally mainstream and not crazy, and then not let them speak, other than empty platitudes and stump speech talking points, once the general election starts. Which is why we’re graced with Senators Ernst, Gardner, and Cotton. Lunatics, all. But willing to go with the program and be less ostentatious about it.

You know what they say about insanity.
Your move, Mr. “Legitimate Rape.”
Trentrunner
Is he the one who thinks if a lady swallows something it can come out her vagina?
Or is he the one who thinks that a lady can volitionally abort a fetus if the father “legitimately” raped her?
Or is he the Republican judge who kept trying to get his wife pregnant via anal sex?
Because I forget.
Mike J
Why does Akin hate God so much? The bible clearly mandates chemical abortion if a woman has been unfaithful.
Turgidson
As for Democrats’ chances at that seat, I would have thought Gov. Nixon was a solid candidate right up until he was expected to show some, any, kind of leadership when Ferguson was teetering on the brink. He, uh, didn’t fare well. I think his electoral future is done as a result.
ETA – I also have some memory of him getting whooped in a Senate race in the past, so maybe he was never the guy.
bemused
Stupid Republican party deliberately activated the zombie brains and didn’t think they would need to deactivate them. Standard operating procedure, no backup plans if it all blows up in their faces.

Akin is 68. The only fresh blood he has is from biting people on the neck.
JPL
Akin is now considered a moderate Republican, so he doesn’t have a chance.

Sweet Jesus, I’d love to see these two race to the bottom…

Did the same thing as Dan Quayle (his rich daddy got him in the National Guard to avoid the Viet Cong).
Chickhawk.
Draft Dodger.

The Tea Party is skeptical and wants some fresh blood,
In what universe is Todd Akin considered fresh blood?

@Trentrunner:
what republican was this? and when was this?
rlrr
@David Koch:
IOKIYAR, always.

Town Hall thread?
raven
The Town Hall starts off in Spanish. Motherfuckers are going nuts over in the CPAC hospitality suite!
Baud
@raven:
Is this live?
Elizabelle
Forgive me, what Town Hall?

“The prime minister was profoundly forward-leaning and outspoken about the importance of invading Iraq under George W. Bush,” Kerry replied. “We all know what happened with that decision.”
“We won’t take a backseat to anybody in our commitment to the state of Israel, but [Netanyahu] may have a judgment that just may not be correct here,” Kerry said.

@Elizabelle: Obama on MSNBC and Telemundo.
Baud
@Elizabelle:
MSNBC.
Elizabelle
OK, just answered my own question by checking the teevee listings.
Go President Obama. And f*ck CPAC. I care not a whit for Jeb! or Ron Fournier or any of those lesser beings. Paltry offerings on BJuice today.
GregB
@raven:
Don’t they realize the Republicans gave a Spanish response to the SOTU. That Romney and every Republican advertise in Spanish during elections?
Elizabelle

@Baud:
Gracias. Turning it on now.
raven
@GregB: Like they give a shit.

Son, there is far higher talent than you auditioning for Huckabee’s slot. For example, Christie. Go back to selling used cars or whatever. Bzzzz!!!!
Baud
@Mike J:
Heh.
JPL
See this is the problem. Obama says we can’t deport 11 million people and the others say why not?
raven
Wounded Hispanic Purple Heart guy up.
Mike in NC
@JPL: He’ll definitely get treated like a RINO in 2016 unless he finds some new level of insanity to champion.
burnspbesq
That would require that there be a Democrat not named Jay Nixon with statewide name recognition in Missouri. Has that been verified?
burnspbesq
@JPL:
When those others show some willingness to appropriate the $60 billion or so it would cost to find, round up, and deport all those 11 million folks, then we have a problem. Until then, not so much.
JPL
@raven: Thanks for the heads up on the town hall. The snow storm was a bust so far.
raven
Here’s a live link.
raven
@JPL: I got all these bitchy parents whining about school being closed on my FB and I have got to not say anything.
Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et al.)
Means nothing. The word “moderate” today, as to Republicans, means only that they don’t say dumbass shit often enough. Look at Bob Corker, Lamar Alexander and Rob Portman. They all vote within a few percentage points of Ted Cruz, but Republican voters think they’re “moderate” only because they don’t spew vile horseshit like Cruz
Take a look at these scores. So far, in this Congress, there are 23 Democrats who vote liberal on contested votes 90% of the time or higher; 50 out of 54 Republicans vote conservative 90% of the time or more. The highest any Democrat scores 98.48%. 9 Republicans score 100% conservative. 37 Republicans score 95% or higher conservative; only 11 Democrats score 95% liberal.
JPL
@burnspbesq: Not a problem. They can just get the money from those government schools and it’s a win.
FlipYrWhig
Headline should be Akin To Be.
Hal
Is Todd Akin able to travel to alternate universes? That is the only explanation for these disaffected Republicans who can’t be real conservatives in today’s Republican party.
SFAW
Forget Akin. I heard that Scott Brown wants to move back to his family’s “ancestral home” in Cape Girardeau.
Fortunately for Scotty, it doesn’t appear that there’s any high-profile female Dem potential candidate in Missouri.
SFAW
@efgoldman:
Since when have they attained personhood? I can’t think of too many RWTMs who would be considered “human” by anyone rational.
Look, I appreciate you’re trying to be charitable, but there ARE limits.
SFAW
@efgoldman:
I hadn’t even considered that part. Thanks for reminding me.
SRW1
I think what Todd means to say here is that his wife is tired of him being around all the time and wants him out of the house.
Bitter Scribe
HAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
*snorts, wipes eyes*
Oh please please please, Todd, do it.
Mart
As a Missourian, I do not count Claire as a Democrat. Placeholder on social issues, war-hawk, fiscal grand bargainer type. Joe Lieberman, Manchin, etc. So maybe we can pick up one Dem.
