Sorry, guys – I kept thinking someone would come along to post something, but no one did. Then I was going to post something since no one else did, but then it looked like someone was working on something in the backroom that would surely be more interesting than this. But fuck it, nothing has been posted in way too long, so here’s another open thread. Frolic in its fields until someone stomps it flat — soon, I hope!

Thank God. People were threatening to conscript me as a front-pager.

Who ever thought billboards could actually be important in elections?

Obligatory blog pimping:
My post about the Indian government’s ban on the documentary, India’s daughter, by the British filmmaker about the Delhi rape case that rocked the nation in late 2012.
Baud
Bigfoot achieved.
Mr. Longform
Lame blog of the day award: 56th Open Thread of the day when Hillary is talking, Joe Biden is righteously smacking down the quislings in the senate, and probably there is something blowing up somewhere. But, by all means, let’s talk about cats or something.
Mike J
@Amir Khalid: You would have put up a Real Madrid thread today, and one for the Algarve cup, and don’t forget the Chelski-PSG match tomorrow.
schrodinger's cat
@Amir Khalid: Why not, you even has a kitteh and impeccable grammar and manners!
dmsilev
It’s usually a bad sign when you’re writing some software and the most useful comment you can leave in the code is “here be dragons”.
(fairly low-level hardware driver doing direct memory read/writes to attached instrument. If you write to the wrong memory address, Bad Things can happen)
Anne Laurie
Well, dear, since you asked…
Anne Laurie
@Amir Khalid:
For the record, I would love to see you on the front page. If & when you’re ready, of course!
Betty Cracker
@Mr. Longform: And the portions are so small!
@Anne Laurie: Whew!
@Anne Laurie: And seconded!
Roger Moore
@dmsilev:
Yeah, “here be dragons” is often an appropriate comment when you’re doing that. Dragons usually lurk on the lower levels of the software stack.
Robert Sneddon
@dmsilev: How many people would it kill if you wrote to the wrong address?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Betty Cracker: a two foot stomp after almost five hours, a very Balloon Juice moment
schrodinger's cat
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: BC awoke other FPers from their slumber.
BC = Betty Cracker, also Basement Cat, coincidence? I think not.
Pogonip
Does anyone here think the “real” Bigfoot exists? I don’t. I wish I did.
Redshift
Double Bigfoot!
schrodinger's cat
@Pogonip: My two cats sound like big foot when they run around the house at 3 a.m. for no reason at all. That or a herd of stampeding buffaloes.
TaMara (BHF)
Good job!
Mike E
It’s a damn wood ape convention!
Roger Moore
@schrodinger’s cat:
Elephants. That’s what I always say my cat sounds like when he starts running around. It’s amazing how noisy cats can be, given their reputation for stealth.
Elizabelle
@Amir Khalid: And you are still in danger.
Big foot is OK. Would be improved with #CHICKENS. Or #Boxers. Even #47Boxers. As long as they are not shitwad traitors.
Elizabelle
@Roger Moore: I love when a cat is ungraceful. When they realize you’re laughing at them it is … just kind of sad.
dmsilev
@Robert Sneddon: Let me quote from the manual of the hardware in question:
(It’s a compressor, runs about 11 kW of input power, designed to compress helium to about 250 psi. It’s used as the main driver of a pulse-tube cryocooler)
Pogonip
@dmsilev: I love those first two sentences. Such magnificent gibberish! Or a secret code!
Ukko
@Pogonip: I understood that gibberish. I wonder if that means I should seek professional help…
