Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

T R E 4 5 O N

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

We still have time to mess this up!

Sorry, Virginia, That Was MY Idea

Santorum was in Charleston, SC, and dealt with an insane crazy lady named Virginia (last name was NOT Palin), who had some interesting things to say. I’ll let you decide which of these two is the bigger frothy mess:

Why is the Congress rolling over and lettin’ this Communist dictator destroy my country? Y’all know what he is and I know what he is. I want him out of the White House. He’s not a citizen. He could’ve been removed a long time ago. Larry Cleveland’s the one who got the judge to say that the executive amnesty is illegal. Everything he does is illegal. He’s trying to destroy the United States. The Congress knows this. What kind of games is the Congress of the United States playing with the citizens of the United States?

Y’all need to work for us, not for the lobbyists that pay your salaries.

Get on board. Well let’s stop all this and get save America.

Y’know, what’s goin’ on Senator Santorum.

Where do we go from here? Ted told me I’ve got to wait now till the next election. I don’t think the country will be around for the next election.

Obama tried to blow up a nuke in Charleston a few months ago and the three Admirals and Generals. He has totally destroyed our military. He has fired all the Generals and all the Admirals who said they wouldn’t fire on the American people if they ask ’em to do so if he wanted to take the guns away from ’em. This man is a Communist dictator. We need him out of the White House now. And the Congress of the United States is the only one — we’ve lost our Congress. We’ve lost our executive.

Bless your heart, Virginia. Obama did not try to nuke Charleston. It was MY idea was to have a modern day Sherman rampage through every state south of the Mason/Dixon taking out every one of you gas huffing, mayonnaise sandwich eating, confederate flag waving, racist, ignorant, tea-bagging, sibling buggering backwoods inbred redneck shitheels. But I did not specifically call for nuking y’all, because, well, Austin and Athens and a few other places are still worth saving and I like peaches and citrus fruits.

So sorry about the confusion.

The luckiest break the city of Charleston ever enjoyed was that General Sherman considered Columbia the more important military target.

This is the problem with feeding people such a constant, endless stream of bullshit, from so many outlets, for such a long period of time. To the campaign managers and activists who put out these kinds of stories, it’s just red meat tossed to the yokels so they’ll turn out and vote for you, and then you quickly forget about it.

But to the yokels, it’s not just crap you said so you’d get elected – they think it’s all real. If you keep telling them that Obama is a Communist dictator who’s putting your grandma in front of a death panel and plotting to destroy Charleston, eventually the yokels are going to start wondering why the hell you’re just standing there in Washington when you should be moving to impeach him, or maybe even lead a coup or a revolution against him. After all, isn’t that what you should be doing if the U.S. government really HAS been taken over by a Communist dictator?

And yet, there you are, not doing it. Which leads the yokels to think you, too, must be part of the conspiracy, or otherwise under the thumb of the Communist dictator. So they freak out and start looking furiously for a REAL Real Conservative, who really WILL stand up to the Communist dictator…

It’s like an aria. It builds, it climaxes, and I truly thought she herself was going to explode from all the commie-pinko-afro-dictato stuff Barry Hussein Obama has been doing.

Also, fun that Santorum’s response was not to push back on a single lie, but instead to say “Don’t blame me! I’m no longer a senator!!”

The whole “Communist Threat” time proved to be as absurd as now ridiculing saturated fat has been shown in recent research. Millions of people still think low fat milk is a good idea, so maybe this lady’s idea of a good America is the same as most of the American populace’s swallowing the marketing idea of low fat milk being the healthiest choice.

    BOOOM, Baby!

Not only has President Obama not called Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on his apparent victory in yesterday’s Israeli election, he has instead explicitly rebuked him:

Obama’s press secretary, Josh Earnest, reaffirmed the president’s belief in the two-state solution, and strongly condemned Netanyahu’s decision to rally support with incendiary remarks about a high turnout among Israeli Arab voters. Netanyahu used a 28-second video on election day to warn that Israeli Arabs were being bussed to the polls “in droves”.

“The United States and this administration is deeply concerned about rhetoric that seeks to marginalise Arab Israeli citizens,” Earnest said. “It undermines the values and democratic ideals that have been important to our democracy and an important part of what binds the United States and Israel together.”

He added: “Rhetoric that seeks to marginalise one segment of their population is deeply concerning, it is divisive, and I can tell you that these are views the administration intends to communicate directly to the Israelis.”

    Obama has Øfucks to give

One of the happiest moments of my political life was working to get him out of office. As boring and sometimes wrong as Bob Casey, Jr. Has been as my senator, I’m thankful for him every day. Having had Santorum as my senator, I have less patience for the purity pony factions in my tribe than I did before he was in office. He’s the one who was my canary in the coal mine as to how crazy and evil the GOP was becoming.

@kc: Small correction, John C .Calhoun actually came from all the the way across state, in a general area near the town Of Calhoun Falls, close to Calhoun Mill. He practiced law in the town Of Abbeville, where I currently reside , and you can be sure that local history has made sure that we are all aware of these facts.
2 blocks up the street is the house where Jefferson Davis held the last meeting of the confederate cabinet before he was captured by union troops. 2 blocks down the street is the site called Secession Hill where the first meeting calling for the secession of states from the union was held. And again you can be sure that the locals have made sure that all visitors are aware. As I have only lived here since 1964 ,I may be still considered a carpetbagger. Life is a small southern town

Is that the bugliosi article about bush v gore and the supreme court?

The Betrayal of America is a book by Vincent Bugliosi (Thunder’s Mouth Press, 2001, ISBN 1-56025-355-X) which is largely based on an article he wrote for The Nation entitled “None Dare Call It Treason,” which argues that theU.S. Supreme Court’s December 12, 2000 5‑4 decision in Bush v. Gore unlawfully handed the 2000 U.S. presidential election to George W. Bush. Bugliosi declares that the decision damaged both the U.S. Constitution anddemocracy in general. He accuses the five majority judges of moral culpability by endangering Americans’ constitutional freedoms.
