Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

No Justins, No Peace

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

The revolution will be supervised.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. don’t touch it.”

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

Somebody needs to explain to DeSantis that nobody needs to do anything to make him look bad.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

When we show up, we win.

No one could have predicted…

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

I desperately hope that, yet again, I am wrong.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Republicans don’t trust women.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Watching WVU v. Maryland.

napping

All six animals are in my little office because Shawn has to get up for work at 4 am for his new job, so they are in here to keep them somewhat quiet. As you can see, the puppies just dropped their toys, which includes a toilet paper roll they stole from the bathroom trash can, and just collapsed.

You all might find that picture cute, and I do, a little, but mostly it is terrifying, because I know in 45 minutes they will be wide awake terrorizing everyone, bouncing off the walls.

ALBANY—State lawmakers are moving ahead with a plan to defer more than $1 billion in pension payments over the next five years, arguing it will help them hold the line on spending increases even as critics warn of long-term risks.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, proposed another five years of “pension amortization” in his proposed $141.6 billion budget, the state’s most recent financial plan shows.

    God F’ing Bless Arizona:

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. — One of the nine suspects was killed. Another was shot in the stomach. All eight responding officers were injured, including one 10-year veteran who required surgery.

It’s the aftermath of an all-out melee in a Walmart parking lot in Cottonwood, Arizona, a town of 11,000 people about an hour’s drive south of Flagstaff.
    …
The suspects were in the parking lot when police responded, and they immediately attacked the officers, the DPS statement said. Two suspects were shot, one in the abdomen and one fatally, while one of the suspects shot a Cottonwood officer in the leg, according to DPS.

“The suspects involved were all from the same family. We believe they are from Idaho because of the license plate on their vehicle,” DPS spokesman Bart Graves told CNN.

As long as you keep making the minimum payment, they’ll be perfectly happy with that plan. Of course they’ll be charging you usurious interest until you finally do pay it off, so it may be as bad a plan for you as it is for New York.

Only because we’ve had a century of priming to think of the OK Corral as something cool. If people make as big a deal about this shootout, in a century people will think that “Walmart Parking Lot” has plenty of zing.

A strange neighborhood cat has come into my house for the 2nd straight night (I have a cat door). Sucker goes nuts for the Fancy Feast, and now he’s sitting on a chair in the living room staring at my female cat. She’s actually got 3 different cats that come to visit her, which drives my male cat nuts. I should probably boot the cat out, but it seems to really want to be inside.

He can’t come in for various reasons, but I’ll get him to the shelter tomorrow to see if he is chipped or just an (unneutered) stray. We know most of the roaming cats in the neighborhood and he’s new and very much wants to be an indoor cat, so someone is probably missing him.

This is how Cuomo balances the budget. In 2013 he had the state workers donate 9 days off without pay and not allowed to use any accrued vacation time as well. Yes, he promised payment for the time and money lost. That happened in the last months of 2014. Ironically, I was one of those employees. Now I am one of the retirees since September of 2014. I opted for direct deposit of my payment. So far my check is mailed with a note of it being partial payment until they can compute my real payment correctly. Note: the union agreed with the 2013 donation and I am sure they agree with this new one, too.

@Keith P.: we had a cat come live with us about 10 years ago. For a number of mornings, I’d go to the back door just in time to see an orange behind go out. Open the door and look, but he was gone. Our other two cats didn’t seem to care. Put out extra food, checked the neighborhood, no one claimed to have lost a cat. Then one night about 2 AM, woke up to have him lying on top of me doing the cat thing with his paws. I actually said out loud to him “I don’t even know you and here you are in bed with me.” Husband didn’t even wake up. Named him Honker. He died two years ago. Pet doors can be awesome.

5:45 AM and I hear my female screaming bloody murder. I ran into the living room to see *another* black cat in the house chasing her. Finally, they both make it outside with the stray inside confused as hell. Took about 15 minutes but I got the strays outside and the female inside where she seems traumatized (and the male alpha is PISSED). Hopefully everything will be cooled down in another hour, but damn that makes my Mondays even worse (and I am quitting my job at 4:55 PM, which is gonna make for a looooooong day)

Among the RV set, it’s well known that Walmart allows camping in its parking lots for free. When I moved from California to Tennessee, i bought an old RV and drove, with my wife and our seven dogs, while movers moved our stuff. We camped at Walmart twice.

It feels very safe. Plenty of lighting, and campers start showing up around 4pm or so, so there’s safety in numbers.

Believe it or not, that really makes a difference when you don’t know how far you’ll get in a day, so you can’t make advance campground reservations. Stopping on roadsides or truck stops is scary for two women traveling alone.
