Do you guys remember the post about the dog Nya who needed surgery because she had a diaphragmatic hernia and her insides had migrated into her chest cavity? The fundraiser finishes in less than 24 hours. Anything you can kick in would be appreciated.
The good news is, Nya is currently in a foster-to-adopt situation and her hernia has completely healed. Sweet new picture of her in that last link.
Sigh. So needed cute puppy update! Thanks. Now, who is taking that Thurston boy? You…over there… we see you…you NEED a puppy.
My Vet sent me flowers today. As sad and awful as I feel, I think she feels just as badly. I’m taking them a chocolate filled Easter basket tomorrow.

Also, dog threads are good for dog questions, right?
Our dog Sophie probably ate a penny about 45min ago. (We can’t find it after dropping it and she loves to put every thing in her mouth.) Sophie is just shy of 1yr old and is 15-20lbs. Unfortunately our vet doesn’t open for another 7hrs. We gave her about 1tsp hydrogen peroxide but can’t find anything in her vomit. If she’s not in observable or obvious distress, likely just fine to wait.

@MeDrewNotYou: Unless you are seeing visible signs of her having problems, she’s probably fine until morning when you can call your vet. Hopefully she’ll pass the penny–you’ll have to do the poop check for the next few days. If she doesn’t then you’ll need to think about other action, but by then your vet should be well involved and can give you the right advice for your particular situation.

@Mustang Bobby: After our hike last week, the kid and I saw and old Chevy in the Griffith Observatory parking lot. Told her it was a ’59. I knew because my mom drove a ’59 Parkwood wagon.
Know it used to be owned by a very elderly nun here, but she must be long gone; still see her ancient (pre-boxy) Volvo tooling around on the roads from time to time. Pretty sure it’s a ’59 model.
Just out of curiosity, any of the shows you go to ever display a Mercury Capri? The ’71 I bought new from the dealership ($2800!) still holds fond memories. V-6, standard shift. Got a consistent 33 mpg.
After NY state instituted emission testing at inspection time, took my ’68 Chrysler Town & Country wagon (440 V-8) in and the mechanic told me in astonishment that it tested lower the new cars with all the emission control gear on them.

There’s a similar type restaurant here, which was an old-time general store. Atmosphere is nifty but cannot recommend the food (in direct contradiction of the hoity-toity food critics). Overpriced, under-portioned and inconsistent quality.
Skipped the bone, Ignored the ethernet cable to the laptop, attacks several pieces of firewood. (from a rather difficult bucket, considering how tight the wood was packed in the bucket)

@NotMax: Don’t know how many of them were sold stateside, but my older brother had one before I reached driving age.
Unless there’s a near lookalike could swear saw a V40 on the road here, bring driven by our Congressional rep.
100% certain it was a Volvo of some sort, as was right behind it at a red light.

@NotMax: Most every restaurant in downtown Charleston is in a building that started out as something else. Some work, some don’t. A favorite of ours is Fleet Landing, which is in an old Naval intake building. A typical meal there will allow you to watch the ferry back and forth to Ft. Sumter and dolphins doing their thing.
The Mercury Capri was marketed in North America by the Lincoln-Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company. The Mercury Capri was sold in the US as three distinctly different cars over three decades. The Capri for the 1971–74 model years and Capri II for 1976–77 were Ford captive imports made by Ford of Europe in Germany. At its peak, Capri sales in North America were the highest for any import model except the Volkswagen Beetle. These Capris, now fairly rare, are becoming sought after for restoration because of their styling, performance & relative affordability. The Capri from 1979–86 was a rebadged Ford Mustang made in the US, and from 1991–94, a convertible from Ford Australia. Source

I hope Thurston and Lovey can do some reunions, in time. They are going to miss each other.
You might find that even nose out of joint Miss Lily is distressed to see a puppy leave.
If it was not for nursing, we could all wonder if Ginger raided some other dog’s nest for puppies.
Thurston looks like a gestational surrogate puppy. No poodle apparent.

@NotMax: The key mechanism and coil are one piece!
And perhaps your Congresscritter’s image would be burnished by driving around in an oldish, but not really old, FWD Volvo. It really depends on your congressional district.
ETA: Yep, that first-gen Capri. Even as a tween, I noticed a “trimness” about it I never saw in American-made compacts.
@Phylllis: We love Fleet Landing. Hyman’s, of course, is a repurposed dry goods wholesalers with the original (1887) wrought iron spiral stair prominently preserved.
Heh. That’s a good one, but I’m keeping Lovey for her name. I’m uncomfortable changing my pets’ names when I adopt them because they have heard their name and know it, I think. I just want my fur babies to be happy and comfortable, so I ascribe human characteristics to them and it makes me feel better. ;-)
@Mustang Bobby: I haven’t seen a Mercury Capri in over 20 years. Not a bad looking car, just probably not made very well.

Re: Swallowing penny. There’s zero reason to even call the vet unless your little guy is in visible distress.
I worked my way through undergrad school as a vet tech and my father and grandfather were both vets, so I’ve had at least some experience with the ‘pet consumes various denominations of small change’ thing.
Do whatever makes YOU feel most comfortable and at ease, though. I’m just saying it doesn’t sound like it’s anywhere remotely in the neighborhood of an emergency situation.
@MeDrewNotYou: I believe you should take her in. There was a post going around facebook about a pup who died after chewing on a phone charger. It had zinc (toxic level) in it. Most pennies are copper clad zinc nowadays, I believe. Copper can be toxic on its own but the 1-2 combo probably should be checked by the vet. This is late enough, you have probably already taken measures anyway.

@NotMax: Ahh, the Amazon. Two years removed from being a Volvo guy, I have just re-committed to four years additional with my car (new tires).
By that time I hope Volvo brings over their European V40 and irons out the kinks.

@ThresherK:
Well, I think that one was pine, and it doesn’t taste that bad fresh seasoned and split. I guess it’s the origin of chewing gum or something like that, right?
ThresherK
@NotMax: Don’t know how many of them were sold stateside, but my older brother had one before I reached driving age.
NotMax
@ThresherK</a.
Unless there's a near lookalike could swear saw a V40 on the road here, bring driven by our Congressional rep.
100% certain it was a Volvo of some sort, as was right behind it at a red light.
NotMax
Dang it. Fingers not friendly with keyboard tonight. Fixed.

If you want to indulge your nostalgia, buy one now before they get really expensive.

@NotMax: Okay, I forgot where you are. Was this the new V40*? Because there was the S40-based version ending a decade ago.

@NotMax: I have a friend who is restoring one of those, and another with a ’57 Duett wagon.

Maui.
The Volvo I was behind looked showroom new. Reason I knew whose it was was the vanity plates.
NotMax
@NotMax
Definitely not an S40.
Reason I surmise it may have been a V40 was because the rear matched the pix of the V40 in your link above.
ThresherK
@NotMax: Okay, now I have hope! Thanks.

@Phylllis: We love Fleet Landing. Hyman’s, of course, is a repurposed dry goods wholesalers with the original (1887) wrought iron spiral stair prominently preserved.

@Cliff in NH: That was hilarious.

@TaMara (BHF): So sorry to hear about this. You were lucky to find each other.
Peace and love.

If it is stuck in the esophagus, it should be causing her discomfort..If it is in her stomach, it will pass.
i wouldn’t go to the vet unless she seems squirrely.

@NotMax:
Heh. That’s a good one, but I’m keeping Lovey for her name. I’m uncomfortable changing my pets’ names when I adopt them because they have heard their name and know it, I think. I just want my fur babies to be happy and comfortable, so I ascribe human characteristics to them and it makes me feel better. ;-)
rikyrah
so absolutely adorable.

@Mustang Bobby: I haven’t seen a Mercury Capri in over 20 years. Not a bad looking car, just probably not made very well.
Pogonip
@MeDrewNotYou: I imagine she’ll poop it out within 24 hours or so.

@Elizabelle: He does seem pretty smart–that’s poodle. Or at least it used to be before the AKC became all about the bucks.
Did anyone see that clip Jemima Harrison ran of the AKCbots being interviewed? They really were like robots, programmed to insert “happy, healthy dogs” in every sentence. It was creepy.

@Karmus: I dunno. Cole has sounded decidedly UN-sentimental when it comes to these puppies (energy bombs)

@Violet: Thanks for the info on Nya. The last time I had checked the fundraiser, there was not an update on her. So good to see good news for her. I donated earlier, but I might again.
Lurker
@MeDrewNotYou:
Can you call in an emergency vet to come in? Or an emergency vet hotline where they can give you advice?
Lurker
@TaMara (BHF):
So sorry for your Missy. It is heart-wrenching when a beloved pet passes away. My heart is with you.

Methink Thurston is for keeps in the Cole household. After all, if you can handle two dogs, what’s a third? Plus, Steve will be happy to have a playmate.
Pogonip
Thanks for the pupdate, Cole!

@Violet: I do remember Nya very well. I have the same condition—my stomach is residing between my left lung and my heart—and I’d never known of anyone having that problem before, although the docs say it isn’t all that uncommon.
I have insurance to pay for Monday’s surgery, but I gather Nya didn’t, so let me kick in.
Violet
@JoyfulA: Good luck with your surgery. Hopefully you will have the same good result as Nya.
Thanks to everyone who has donated for Nya. She looks like such a sweetheart.

Holy crackers that face!!
