Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

This country desperately needs a functioning Fourth Estate.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Let’s finish the job.

Never forget that he train is barreling down on Trump, even as he dances on the tracks.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

T R E 4 5 O N

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

I guess something done in the likeness of Carly Fiorina’s Demon Sheep* wouldn’t do for a lot of Easter-celebratin’ folk, but this’ll work fine.

*By the way, was the actual TV political ad shown in California during that 2010 campaign (to challenge Boxer) really over three minutes long? That must have cost a fortune, especially in CA media markets! I guess she ran her campaign like she did H-P.
But maybe I see her problem – that Demon Sheep didn’t even show up until around the 2m25s mark. If she does in fact run for Preznit – and it sounds like she plans to – I hope she has the right kind of advisers, who will tell her ‘Carly, ad needz MOAR DEMON SHEEP!’

    Best crucifixion joke ever.

Jesus is dying on the cross, and Peter is down the hill comforting Mary Magdalene when he hears Jesus’ faint voice, “Peter… Peter…”

“I must go and provide succor,” he says and wends his way up the hill, only to be beaten and kicked back down by the Roman centurions guarding the cross. But soon he again hears the insistent, hoarse “Peter… Peter,” even fainter now.

In pain, he slowly staggers up the hill and, on tiptoe, finally gets as near as he can to Christ’s face.

“Yes, master? What wisdom do you wish to dispense?”

“Peter… Peter… I can see your house from here.”

@sharl: Fiorina’s running for the vice-presidential slot — she wants to be Palin v. 2. You want a female candidate? Look, we Repubs have a female candidate too! And she’s cuter than the Hildebeast, since of course all you low-info voters care about is her looks…

Not what you or I would consider a gig worth the expense, but then again, given the intellectual caliber of the “top tier” candidates, she probably envisions herself as the next Dick Cheney.

    April 5, 2015 at 12:51 am

@Anne Laurie: Yup, someone – maybe you – suggested that scenario recently, and it seems plausible.

The comparison to Cheney is quite apt, when considering Fiorina’s disastrous run at Hewlett-Packard. Given all the unnecessary death and destruction that resulted from our Glorious Iraq Adventure, even well informed folks could be forgiven for forgetting that Cheney was a failed businessman before he became a failed colonizer. I cannot recall where my favorite long read on that is (or was), but Cheney’s pre-Iraq failures at Halliburton are discussed here and here.

Then again, I think Halliburton made out big time in post-invasion Iraq (I wish that 2011 Guardian article – final link above – would have addressed that). Assuming I’m remembering correctly, the company may have achieved a favorable net return-on-investment with Cheney anyway, when all was said and done. Fortunately it doesn’t appear that Fiorina’s team exhibits comparable levels of cleverness and psychopathy; thank goodness for small favors, I guess.

Love the butter lamb, and it does resemble Lamb Chop.

@raven, @Corner Stone: This here sportsball trash talk shows some real promise, gents. It’s probably best that I’m not a {airquotes}sports dood{/airquotes} for a number of reasons, including the fact that this aspect of fandom would not be my cup o’ tea. But quality trash talk? Well that qualifies as some kinda literary performance art, IMO.

We too thought of the Fiorina “demon sheep” ad when we saw the butter sculpture. What a great thing to see first thing in the morning.

Betty, I am late to the party and usually a lurker, but gotta say, this is why I love you! I will show everyone I know your lamb. Please keep doing what you do!

I’m stunned that no one else has commented on the title of the thread. Glad to see another fan of the Bloggess here. That single post is one of the funniest things I have ever read, and bless you to the person here who nominated it for funniest post of the year a couple of years back.
