¯\_(ツ)_/¯ RT @mikiebarb: Jeb Bush identified himself as “Hispanic” in a 2009 voter registration form, NYT found. http://t.co/9QNJaHQLGa
— daveweigel (@daveweigel) April 6, 2015
From the NYTimes article:
… Mr. Bush, a former Florida governor and likely presidential candidate, was born in Texas and hails from one of America’s most prominent political dynasties. But on at least one occasion, it appears he got carried away with his appeal to Spanish-speaking voters and claimed he actually was Hispanic…
A Bush spokeswoman could offer no explanation for the characterization. However, Mr. Bush took to Twitter late on Monday morning to call the situation a mistake…
“If even an educated, well-off, socially prominent individual like Jeb Bush can’t figure out Florida’s Voter ID system… “ Another missed opportunity:
… The Florida Democratic Party tweeted out a photo of a registration form, photoshopped to include an image of Bush and a warning to call his lawyers. Official Florida voter registration forms state that “It is a 3rd degree felony to submit false information. Maximum penalties are $5,000 and/or 5 years in prison.”
“The inattention to detail is not something you want in a presidential candidate,” Max Steele, the press secretary for the Florida Democrats, told Bloomberg. Steele said the group doesn’t intend to issue any kind of complaint against Bush…

Apart from noting just how much the Bush Crime Family can get away with, what’s on the agenda for the evening?

Ehh. I thought he might have done it in solidarity with Columba and the kids. Meh.
Kind of inoculates Elizabeth Warren, Indian princess, should that topic ever come up. And Professor Senator Smart Person Warren does have native American blood, does she not?

Forgot all about the White House Easter Roll today, but I had work today anyway, so well.
I saw this clip though and it was great:

Next, JEB will swear on a stack of bibles that he has never heard of anybody named Terri Schiavo. No lie is too outrageous for the Bush Crime Family.

Whatever happened to Ann Coulter after she gave a fake address so she could vote in a different CD?
Litlebritdifrnt
@lamh36:
Agree. Coolest FLOTUS ever. And she really can dance.
I also thought that POTUS telling the kids that bees are good was great. I didn’t realize that they had bee hives at the WH as well as a garden. There are more and more reasons to love this first family every day.

It’s “Heb” Bush now. Or, as on Twitter, @YebBush.

Not as if he bothers to vote except the traditional early morning photo op vote when he’s running for something.
That’s for the little people.

does barbara bush have some ‘splainin’ to do?

Oh and I’m sure the majority of BJ wouldn’t have seen this, but it was a pretty great speech.
Michelle Obama’s Black Girls Rock Speech Is the Pep Talk You Needed
Of course there has been the usual backlash, so before anyone asks: Why it matters to have ‘Black Girls Rock’
I wonder what certain racist/bigotted white folk will do once the President is no longer Black? Black girls rock will continue to go on and I don’t expect the next Prez to be in attendance, so…

Pretty much whatever they want, from what I can tell.

@lamh36: Loved your pics of Miss Maddie in her Easter dress. She is a darling. Did she have a good holiday?

So, Jeb! is a Hispanic as his brother was a Rancher. Looking foreword to weekends spent clearing Mariachi music.

Many people in the US don’t know about what UKIP is. Here’s what his school teachers had to say about Nigel Farage, their leader:
The Conservatives are expected to to try to form a government in partnership with UKIP.

In case this doesn’t seem like a big deal, falsely registering as black or Hispanic in order to throw off demographic reports and “trick” Democrats into minority-targeted campaigning in areas where it isn’t effective is an old, well-known GOP registration fraud strategy

Kind of what I was thinking, meaningless except it comes on the heels of his flip-flop on Indiana, and a couple more bloopers like this and the new meme could become “The Smart One?” Pity that his grotesque and shameless behavior in the Schiavo matter (or his endorsement of his brother as a ‘great president’, or his hiring of Paul Wolfowitz, or his shady connection-laden business career) doesn’t take him out of contention.

Behold a truly ugly ass Lucille Ball statue, which people in her hometown want gone gone. The sculptor has offered to fix it for free. How did this one ever leave his studio?

So, eye surgery today. It seemed to go smoothly, other than fog and lots of hair-raising early Interstate commute. 30 seconds before we get down on it he, Dr. Retinal Surgeon told me there’s an 85% chance we will not be able to save your lens implant. Well, OK then, I guess.
FYWP. I just lost a beautiful paragraph about losing my retina in all this. And why evolve irises anyway? Then it gets surreal. At some point in weeks or months I’m to be fitted for a “Narcissus” contact lens that simulates an iris of whatever color one chooses. I may lean toward a slightly different color than my extant iris. I’ll be like syfy movie characters, or Aeon Flux.
But my retina is intact and my eyeball wasn’t punctured, so that matters. Still curious about the evolutionary purpose of irises and individual colors—familial ID, attraction? que?

@fleeting expletive: You sound really coherent for having had surgery today. It sounds like this is good news. Is that right?

@Mike J: For that to happen, UKIP first has to win a significant number of seats, which due to the UK’s system, they are unlikely to do despite polling around 15%.

Steele said the group doesn’t intend to issue any kind of complaint against Bush…
Why not? He lied under oath, which the grubby genital-obsessed Repukes of the Clinton era insisted is worthy of impeachment.
fleeting expletive
Thank you. If I’m coherent it’s because I am going to fucking hang in there. Kids, it’s harder to be old that you can even fathom. The anesthesia was just a 5 minute black out so they can inject (!) that old sweet “numbing medicine” into one’s eye, which lasts for a merciful long time, hours and hours.
But once the limits are reached and old pain comes around again–no tylenol for me and ibuprofoen not allowed– ER gave me tam idol? Sounds like Damital, or Cramital. I took two over 2 days, and no, not for me. So I start drinking 15 minutes before my usual time and determined to rock out with invading my one tablespoon stash of stems and seeds.
But hey, we’ve all been in closer jams than this, right?
OKay, maybe not.

@fleeting expletive:
My Dad was being treated for CMML leukemia by M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He eventually needed cataract surgery as he neared 80. He was referred to a top-drawer surgical practice in near downtown Houston.
Note that my dad had needed thick glasses his entire life!
The optical exam he had lasted for hours, we (my Texan brother and I) helped him move from one lab to another for another exam. But all this paid off when the day arrived.
We took him to a “rent-an-operating theater” center for his eye surgery. Afterwards we were wheeling him to the car, and he told us that the surgeon and told him that they believed that he would NOT need glasses post-operative.
I thought the drugs were working too well on him!
But later on that day, he told us that the Dr had told him to try getting around without any glasses, and for reading, to try 2 or 3 different strength reading glasses at the drugstore!!!
Well, it turned out that they had repaired his astigmatism and myopia with the new lenses they installed to correct his cataracts!!
So I’m hoping your work turned out as well as my dad’s did!
This modern medicine, when it works, it really is magical!

I’m confused about the contact lens myself. It sounds like one of those vanity/party things, toys. I don’t know if they can carry actual corrective vision metrics. Maybe there has been a real medical ned for iris contacts, and it got exploited for cosmetic purposes.
I hope there is a new implant on the horizon that can bring my vision back to at least what it was. The older IOL from 2006 worked as well as it did for nine years. Surely they can do better now. And with a contact lens iris to boot.
Thank you for letting me share this stuff here. It does help me. Good night, all.
Sm*t Cl*de
Did you get one that was UV-transparent so as to have the UV-vision superpower?
fleeting expletive
No, I didn’t get any superpowers. Nearest I’m gonna get is fishing three drinks tonight and I may not get there.
satby
@J R in WV: I was told that when I needed cataract surgery I would come out of it with better eyesight too, just like your dad I have myopia and severe astigmatism. And because very fair skinned blue eyed people are more prone to develop cataracts early, I could expect to need the surgery by my 60s. But I’m about to turn 60 and no sign of the buggers yet. They take years to get to the point of needing to be removed.
satby
@fleeting expletive: fleeting, yes those kind if contacts can correct vision.

@satby:
Wearing sunglasses cuts way back on your risk of cataracts, because they’re tied to UV exposure (IIRC). To answer FE’s earlier question, iris color developed like skin color — it’s tied to melanin to allow humans to block or take better advantage of available sunlight. That’s why people whose ancestors lived closer to the equator tend to have darker eyes and people whose ancestors lived closer to the arctic tend to have lighter eyes.

Well, this thing looks like an innocent mistake. If it was anything else, it was pointless.
But daughter Noelle has violated the law repeatedly and has had to face the music.
That’s asking too much. People who have broken the same laws that Noelle did would certainly have been treated much more harshly by the system.

Jeb once claimed to be hispanic? I must admit, I don’t give even a single shit. It seems like such a small-time sin, compared to everything else he’s done. There’s his use and abuse of Terri Schaivo, just to begin with.
