The GOP’s favorite black person, Ben Carson, continues to say things and then backpedal. This time, it’s about blaming the hip-hop community for contributing to African Americans’ lack of spirituality:
“When I talk about the hip-hop community, I’m talking about the aspect of modern society that pretty much dismisses anything that has to do with Jesus Christ,” Carson told WBLS-FM hosts Bob Slade & Bob Pickett on Sunday. “That’s what I’m talking about. … We need to reestablish faith in our communities and the values and principles that got us through slavery, that got us through Jim Crow, and segregation, and all kinds of horrible things that were heaped upon us,” he argued. “Why were we able to get through those? Because of our faith, because of our family, because of our values, and as we allow the hip-hop community to destroy those things for us, and as we grasp onto what’s politically correct and not what is correct, we continue to deteriorate.”
That’s right, Carson. Blame the devil’s music!
Team Blackness discussed Jeb Bush identifying as “hispanic,” Rand Paul’s fantastic new line of presidential memorabilia, and Kylie Jenner’s blackface.

Although it’s fun to point and mock, I see no point in paying attention to Ben Carson. He has become the Black Sarah Palin.

“And by hip hop, I am not of course referring to the genre of music, nor to the subculture of its practitioners and fans, but to something else entirely . . . .”

It’s startling to hear Carson described as “backpedaling”. I thought he only tries to top the last crazy thing he said. Oh, wait, he kinda did.

Can Ben Carson explain Japan to me? According to Wikipedia, only 2.3% of the Japanese claim to be Christian, so it must be a hellhole, right, not the world’s third largest economy?

@Calouste: You don’t measure a country by its wealth, but by how much its wealthy help the poor suffer for Christ.

I’ve been trying to think of an appropriately mocking handle for Jeb’s “change” of ethnicity.
Which sounds better for comedic value:
Jebe Bushito or Jebus ArBushto?

The double post thing doesn’t happen all the time.
But can’t the FPer delete the duplicate when it does happen?

Saw a car being towed on a flatbed this week. Lots of what seemed to be rightwing bumper stickers.
And some of them were for “Carson.”
I laughed.

Carson is a highly educated guy, it’s unfortunate he was never taught the the definition of “tautology”.

Also, perhaps this is just me joining Obama and Holder as the the only racists in America–now with Christian Hating!(tm), but I find the notion of “Christianity got us through slavery” to be pretty grotesque considering Christianity was used to justify and perpetuate that slavery.
