Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Please don’t feed the bears.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

It’s not hopeless, and we’re not helpless.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Innocent people don’t delay justice.

People are weird.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

A consequence of cucumbers

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Yeah, I couldn’t resist. This is today’s strip, it’s not that I don’t realize it’s the wrong season. But I’m sure there’s some kind of Sunday sports action that people want to talk about…

@efgoldman: I might add that catch by Butler was magnificent though.

Too early in the season to get excited about the Red Sox

Beating the Yankees two days in a row is always a good thing, and they play again in 2 hours.

    @efgoldman:

And nobody talks football this time of year except for mama’s basement draftniks and Texans.

Hey, now. The Draft is nigh. Fear ye, and tremble Browns and/or Cowboys draft picks.
Philly has already seemed to set the baseline for horrificly bad off-season moves. Chip Kelly, sheesh.

I usually watch as much of The Masters as I can, but this year I just couldn’t seem to be assed.

IMO, PGA is really going to suffer for a bit with the complete decline of Tiger Woods.
Rory, Phil, Bubba, Jordan, et al just aren’t going to pull the eyeballs that TW did.

    @PurpleGirl:

For some reason, I always think it’s hilarious that we have the same acronyms for “Fuck The Fuckin’ Yankees” and “Fixed That For Ya.”

Are there any other multi-purpose acronyms out there? (I don’t mean doing a back-formation, I mean acronyms already in common usage.) LOL is usually “Laughing Out Loud,” but can also be “Little Old Lady,” and “Lots Of Love” or “Lots Of Luck.” Others?

I’m been waiting all day for an open thread so…
    Very Important (to me) Announcement!
    (and with Cole’s blessing…)
    Dear BJ family:
I’m a daily continual reader of Balloon Juice — I won’t call myself a lurker
because that sounds vaguely sinister & sleazy — but rarely post anything.
However, I feel like I know you all and have no qualms about asking for your support.
    Here’s the deal:
I’ve been a working jazz musician all my life and this year marks my 50th year as a professional. Having missed the ‘regular job’ step in my career trajectory I find myself old & broke, working until I fall over my instrument one day which will constitute retirement.
To celebrate the milestone of 50 years I’m trying to do a CD for release around September.
I’ve put up a Kickstarter page to pay for it. (Personally, I can barely afford to pay attention…) The problem is that I’m going to need a shitload of small donations to make this work. The Kickstarter model is that if you fail to meet your funding goal you get nothing. Nobody’s card is charged unless it’s fully funded. And it’s a tight window. 30 days total.
I’d be very grateful if you guys could throw a few dollars my way to get this done. It’s going to be a really nice project. Nearly all original material performed on vibraphone, marimba and steel pan.
Instrumental jazz music with West Indian roots. You’ll love it!
Thanks for considering me and I’ll make sure that anyone who identifies themselves as a Balloon Juicer will get something extra along with their CD. (But it won’t be a puppy.)
    The link is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1939410000/50th-anniversary-cd
    Thanks again!!
    Don Moors

P.S. My personal website (http://www.donmoors.com) is a valuable resource if you’re ever on Jeopardy and the category is ‘aging vibraphonist trivia’.

Thanks. I know the feeling and appreciate anything you can do. We’ve got till May 9th to clear the bar. I knew I could count on this BJ family to come through for me.
If anybody’s on Twitter, look at my Kickstarter page, get excited (I know you will) and see if we can get some outside interest.
    Thanks All!

I may be the only person on this blog who has ever had vibes in his dwelling besides you! Not that I got any good with them, they were borrowed from my piano teacher just to see how they worked.

Best of luck Don / Ajabu, hope you do well with kickstarter, and better with the CD!

Duke 15, Virginia 8 in lacrosse. Next to beating Carolina, nothing is sweeter than sending the Wahoos back to C’ville with their tails between their legs. Dom Starsia bitched about the Duke players who lost their 2006 season to the non-scandal being granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA, and then was seemingly the only person in the entire lacrosse community who didn’t know that one of his players was a time bomb until said player murdered his ex-girlfriend.

Fuck you, Dom, and the horse you rode in on, and the farrier who shod your horse, and the farmer who grew your feed.
