Apparently #AllLivesMatter When It Comes to BBQ

White people, rejoice! Someone has finally listened to the fact that you too, deserve to be celebrated. So set your calendars for June 11, and head to Colorado BBQ joint Rubbin’ Buttz for White Appreciation Day and 10 percent off your purchase! Says owner Edgar Antillon ,who is a first-generation American born to Mexican parents:

The “White Appreciation” discount is meant to bring people together, not discriminate. “We have a whole month for Black History Month. We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month. So we figured the least we could do is offer one day to appreciate white Americans,” he told KUSA. “We’re all American. Plain and simple. Whether you come from a different country or you were born here, we’re all American,” he said.

Not everyone is so thrilled about the day. On Friday, a bomb threat was called into the restaurant.

Team Blackness also discussed Chris Christie’s snack budget paid for by American taxpayers, George Zimmerman’s latest brush with the law, and the physical cost to keeping secrets.

    I would’ve preferred if they had scheduled it for June 19th, but I’ll take a discount on BBQ any time I can get it!

    Unless these guys are just too stupid to breathe, I think this was an idea hatched when they saw how much money the anti-gay pizza parlor in Indiana received. Hoping for racist idiots to flock to their cause.

    So why not have it be American Appreciation Day?

    I was surprised to hear some right-leaning morning show DJs talking about what a hot mess Zimmerman is and how he’s probably going to end up dead due to his own bad temper. They didn’t seem to really get that maybe his killing of Trayvon Martin wasn’t so great after all, but at least he seems to have lost some support.

    What Paul in KY said — they just want to be the newest GoFundMe millionaires. And speaking of morons and GoFundMe, looks like some Patriots fans set up an account to pay the $1M fine the NFL imposed on the Patriots. Reasonable people can disagree on whether or not the fine and suspension were deserved for Deflategate, but c’mon: Kraft and Brady could raise a million bucks — each! — by shaking out their sofa cushions!

    I was trying to remember what Christie’s history was with food assistance programs. Didn’t he veto a bill that would have prevented a lot of NJ families from losing their food assistance?

    I saw that our blog host thinks this is a non-issue but when you deny people meager food assistance funds while spending $300,000 of taxpayer money on booze and food, it has the stench of let them eat cake about it.

    I expected this to be about Police and roasting pigs.

    @Betty Cracker:

    Kraft and Brady could raise a million bucks

    and I bet their accountants will find a way to make it tax deductible, too.

    Firefox doesn’t understand the address at your link. But yes, what is wrong with these fans, raising money to pay a fine for an already very rich sports star?

    @MomSense:

    IIRC, Christie was pretty cavalier with his expense account when he was a federal prosecutor and had some questionable charges, so he has a history of maximizing what he can charge to his employer, whether that employer is the Feds or the state of NJ.

    @Amir Khalid: I know. This is America, where we float public bonds to build stadiums so that wealthy teams can profit from them without sharing a dime. Shouldn’t it be the task of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to pay this fine?

    @Central Planning:

    ” So why not have it be American Appreciation Day? ”

    Nearly everyone, from all backgrounds, likes BBQ. It would be smashing success.

    White Appreciation Day seems pretty crass and bigoted, and a dog whistle to the White Genocide Cult (or maybe subliminal GOP GOTV effort). How to fix it up?

    One way is to go for specific white ethnic groups. I remember old textbooks with cheapo color pics lying around when I was a kid in school that made a big hoo-haw about various white ethnic groups. I guess back in the day, it was considered necessary to remind people that Poles and Swedes and Norgies and Czechs and Italians were Americans too.

    Or we could make it a memorial. But, to whom? Not Washington, I doubt he would approve of a White Day in his honor if still here, since there is evidence that he did not particularly care about that kind of thing, at least by the end of his life. How about fallen Great White GOP Presidential Hopefuls? We could make it White Appreciation Day, in memory of the Chris Christie and Jeb! (the smart one!) presidential campaigns. Will need BBQ sammiches with whole lot of white bread.

    Another question: when the NFL fines a player, do they accept payment of the fine from a third party instead of from the player?

    BOOM!
    “President Barack Obama’s free trade push was blocked in the Senate on Tuesday as Democrats rebelled, throwing one of his biggest priorities in his remaining years in the White House into doubt.

    Roughly 14 pro-trade Democrats emerged from a Tuesday afternoon meeting with other Senate Democrats saying they wouldn’t vote to take up the trade bill — which then failed on a 52-45 vote. “
