Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

This fight is for everything.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Today in Failed Senate Candidacies

Hello and goodbye, Loretta Sanchez:

US. Senate candidate and Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris was at a loss for words Saturday when told that her principal opponent, U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez of Santa Ana, had been videotaped making a joke about the difference between Indian Americans and Native Americans in which she tapped her hand to her mouth in imitation of a “war cry.”

Harris’ mother is Indian and her father Jamaican.

Fail.

Police: 9 dead after shooting between biker gangs in Texas

Police in Waco, Texas have reported multiple fatalities and injuries in a shooting at a restaurant Sunday afternoon.

I’m sure the corporate media will spend all week calling them “thugs” and denouncing their family structure and lack of dads.

@Valdivia: I would have thought Sanchez was reasonably ready for prime time. She made he bones beating Bob Dornan out of his congressional seat. That was a long time ago though…

Admittedly, when I was in college, we used to say “Dot or feather?” in much the same way, but we were also drunk/high/young/stupid.

I guess Kamala can stop worrying about the primary now and move on to general election fundraising.

Just the jungle primary. But if Harris is the only Democrat on the ballot with any name recognition, she can coast through the primary. It has the potential to be a replay of Dianne Feinstein and the 23 dwarfs.

Well, that was a poor move.

To be fair, she never had much of a chance to begin with. I don’t even know why she left her safe House seat for this race. Barring some cataclysmic meltdown, Harris has this in the bag.

It’s put me right off her, and I’d normally vote for just about any Democrat other than Harris. I’ll take a flawed professional over an amateur. After this, you have to worry that Sanchez could bumble away an easy win and let the Republicans pick up a senate seat they have no business winning. (cf. Coakley, Martha)

I don’t see what the big deal is. I’ve done that many times myself. I am an Indian myself. I was making fun of my own background since that idiot Columbus couldn’t tell where the fuck he was when he named the natives Indians.

I sometimes wish people would stop being so sensitive about stupid shit like this.

    May 18, 2015 at 1:06 pm

    @Xantar:

As Brachiator said, it’s complicated because Sanchez is Mexican-American, so she probably has at least some Native American heritage, though probably not one of the US-recognized American Indian tribes.

Still a really stupid thing for her to do, particularly since many of the California tribes have a lot more political power than they used to thanks to ca$ino money.

“And yes, sooner or later, we make mistakes,” she told the crowd. “Because you know what? We’re all humans.”

In this case, I’d say it’s sooner. Way sooner. Something weird goin’ on in this lady’s head.
