    We had a band of thunderstorms rumble through in the last hour–very rare for here. No rain but lightning and thunder, and I learned our dog at long last isn’t diving under the bed at the first boom. I suppose her hearing is going, as she’s twelvish. Maybe we can finally do something on the 4th this year.

    The upside was clearing out the muggy, oppressive air from the early evening. Funny to think this might be the closest to rain we get until October.

    So I’m was gonna see Spy on Sunday, but I’ve heard nothing but great reviews on the film so I changed my mind and now I’m gonna go tomorrow.

    Besides, I don’t really like doing too much on Sundays before I go back to work on Monday. So I’ll see the movie tomorrow and then I can “rest” on the Sabbath.

    The film apparently has a 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes!

    Anyhoo, I love Melissa McCarthey and Paul Feig. They seem to be 3 for 3. It’s def makes me feel kind good about them filming the Ghostbusters reboot together.

    Another bit of good news for me tonight. I was supposed to go to DFW in July for my youngest sister’s wedding. But she changed her mind about having a big to do and decided to go minimal (small ceremony) and just visit NOLA for a big party with the whole fam. So I had to cancel the trip.

    Now I have refused to drive to DFW ever again, if I can help it. Hate the drive, so even when I was going to my sister’s wedding, I was gonna have come up with a hunk of change for the flight, hotel and rental. So I was okay with her deciding to go minimal.

    Welp, Southwest announced there 3 day sale on Tues, I think. But I was short on change and wasn’t gonna be able to take advantage of the sale. Well…the Lord musta wanted me to make it to DFW this summer! Thanks to Southwest Airlines​ having some website glitches. they had to extend their 3 day sale to midnight tonight! And guess who just got a round trip ticket to DFW for the weekend of Aug 21st for $98!!!!! ME!!!!

    Look out DFW, Here I come!

    Still in rehab. My release date looks like it will most likely be the 12th unless something comes up before then. Then back home for some more recovery type stuff. The nice part is my leave is pretty much all accounted for so no lost moneys while I’m out.

    The good news is the surgery went amazingly well. The bad part is that I also developed a subdural hematoma at the incision site. So I’m going to be needing pain medication longer than I normally would.

    going to take the spouse on a fun filled day celebrating her birthday… first up, cleaning the house while she’s teaching beginning wanna be cyclists, then a trip up to casa grande to audition some sweet rescue kittens for the house and finally the DBacks game so she can watch people and eat cotton candy. Perhaps a foot rub thrown in there sometime. My weight is down to 275, had a few set backs (my knees are preventing as much exercise as I might want) but we’re in a new house, sold the old house, watched the youngest graduate from high school and starting next week, the solar panels go up to take us out of the clutches of the local utility company.

    despite all of the political idiocy that keeps my blood pressure up, life is pretty damn spiffy. I wish it could be the same for everyone.

    Today marks two weeks that I’ve had Muppet. She’s an absolute sweetie, and she’s playing with Iggy and appears to like him as much as he likes her, which is nice. What’s not so nice is that I screwed up by giving her too much freedom in the house, so housetraining is still an issue. So she’s either in her crate or leashed with me until she starts figuring out that peeing outside isn’t just an option, it’s a requirement.

    With that, I’m going to sleep. Have to get up early to keep her on her feeding/walking schedule.

    There’s a lot to recommend Mad Max: Fury Road: the MRAs don’t like it. The story is all about the women. Charlize Theron is more of a badass and has more dialogue than the guy who plays Max — Tom something. It’s got granny bikers!

    I found out pretty much the same thing. I wasn’t a everyday or heavy drinker but was still unreasonably regular so figured that in quitting I’d miss it. Haven’t, and when I’m someplace and am asked and say no thanks, I don’t drink, I get almost universally, “Good for you.” Feels somewhat like being thanked for my service but still, I’ll take it.

    I have had kind of a shitty week. My clients are being tools.and last night, my husband snored, like, a fuckton of snores, and I am tired and cranky from having gotten shitty. Sleep. I finally drifted off, dreamed I had jacked off, then woke up and realized that I hadn’t. SIGH.

    So we went and tried to buy the new car today. However, they didn’t have the color I wanted, so it’s being shipped. Hopefully it will come this week.

    In other oversharing news, because what the fuck, might I just say that laser hair removal is THE SHIT? I sprung for a groupon and I did my second treatment today. SO BADASS.

    @BillinGlendaleCA: Me, I went to Davos with a friend for the skiing (which was brilliant as was the lunch on grilled trout in Vaduz on way there). We walked into a club where the cheapest drink was a Bud for $8 in 1992. We left after the first drink. As we wandered around we walked past a bar from which “Radar Love” was emanating. We walked in and found a pub for people who were there for skiing not style. And thus, history was made. The song matters.

    I watch House Hunters.International a lot. Just wondering, some of these people move with jobs. Is it that easy to get work permits etc. everywhere? Also, you get people spending a few hundred thousand in Mexico.and Central American countries. Are property rights that solid in these countries? Some of the shows show people retiring and by the looks of it selling.their American home and buying the new house with that money. It’s not like it’s a second home. Maybe.I’m just more risk averse.

    I’m not a fan of John Wayne, but I thought he was perfect in the original “True Grit” movie. (“Are ya sure ya don’t want the snake?”) Like a true conservative, he could switch from robbing banks to shooting bad guys with no moral qualms nor lessening of his good opinion of himself. Whereas Jeff Bridges annoyed me by talking as though he had a sock in his mouth, and seemed more dim-witted than Roosterish. I think “True Grit” was John Wayne’s best movie, by far, and “The Big Lebowski” was Jeff Bridge’s.

    Glen Campbell was likewise a disaster compared to Matt Damon, though.
