Sorry about this folks. I scheduled the post to post five minutes before the game, but for some reason it missed the schedule.

As it’s 5-0 at halftime for Germany, do you think Germany will break into double digits?

    By way of explanation, there are several outlets that carry these games here, but they are not carrying all of them. They didn’t carry any of yesterday’s games on the channels on my cable system and only Norway v Thailand today.

    @Randinho:
    The BBC liveblogs men’s World Cup matches, but isn’t doing so with these matches. And that there’s almost no TV coverage of women’s football even at this level is a crying shame.

    @Amir Khalid: Agree. Even here in the US, many games are shown on premium channels. I’m watching it on a streaming channel right now.

    Ivory Coast is incredibly weak. Germany does not look all that impressive given that IC can barely put two passes together without kicking the ball away. There are big gaps in the German defense that a better team could exploit.

    As it turns out, it took die Nationalelf der Frauen a whole 85 minutes to post 10 goals.

    I still think 7-1 against Brazil last year was a bigger drubbing. This is more like Bambi Meets Godzilla.

    No woman has ever played MLB, and one reason has to do upper body strength. I’ve long held the first woman to play in the major leagues will be a first baseman for that very reason. Idle question: what is it that prevents men and women from fairly competing together in professional soccer games? Women can run as fast as men, and skill-wise anything a man can do so can a woman. So what are those soccer attributes that account for (what I assume would be) a lopsided competition?

    @NobodySpecial: Thank you? It was a serious question, or as serious as an idle question can be.

    @Tree With Water:

    Women can run as fast as men

    No, they can’t. At every distance from the 100m to the marathon and beyond, the record time for men is substantially faster than the record time for women. Testosterone gives men a big advantage over women in developing big muscles, which translates into running faster, jumping higher, kicking harder, etc. Women may be able to keep up in skill, but men have enough of an advantage in raw power to make the competition grossly lopsided overall.

    @Amir Khalid: Hell, I had to complain to ESPN to even get them to show the WNT’s International Friendly’s on their FC app. They did start doing that the last 3 matches before the WC.

    HuffPo published the full TV schedule for the Women’s World Cup. FWIW, both games were shown on the main Fox broadcast network this afternoon while NASCAR was pushed to their cable channel.

    Watching the Tony Awards.

    The announcer came out and said, “From a musical set in Bangkok…” and I’m already thinking “Chess is back on Broadway?” and he continues, “in the 1860s…”.

    I may be the only person disappointed in The King and I.
