I come here for trenchant discussion of significant current events & I find Womens World Cup “open threads” scurrying around like cockroaches in the kitchen when the light’s turned on.
@Uncle Cosmo: I have been requested to do these posts. There are many people who enjoy them.
I am not a fan of the NFL and have zero interest in it. I do not, however, troll the comments section of NFL posts on this blog. Perhaps you can find it in yourself to afford those of us who like this sport the same courtesy.
I remind you that this is not your blog. By all means feel free to comment on other such subjects that may interest you, but don’t do the equivalent of coming in to someone’s house and shitting in the kitchen because you don’t like the food.

@Steeplejack (phone): Okay, that’s not something about a Kardashian? The cynic in me thinks 1) A name from a supermarket tabloid and 2) a Romance language syllable with an accent mark.

@Uncle Cosmo: You need to back the fuck off douche bag.
@raven: Thanks, raven. Let me just add that John Cole, an all around mensch and someone for whom I have boundless respect, suffers fools far less gladly than I do Uncle Cosmo.

Though I’m not commenting on each one I too really appreciate them. Like @Randinho: said I’m not a fan of American football and still can respect that many others do.
@Baud: You are too kind. I’m getting a little verklempt. Talk among yourselves. Here’s a topic: the offside rule: you are either offside or not offside; there is no onside. Discuss.
@Baud: Now I have that Ricky Martin song in my head. Oy.

Just wanted to chime in and say I really appreciate the threads, and the first 40 minutes of USA vs. Australia (which is all I was able to watch so far) was some really good soccer.
I’m very excited about the rest of the tourny, and plan to make time to keep watching it so these are always helpful to remember a good match is on. Thanks to both JC and Randinho for that!

I’m super late to the thread, but I have to say I love these too. I love getting to watch the matches in the same time zone.
And the “late night” fox sports review is cracking me up…but also rather informative with all these former players. US/Sweden should be very…interesting.

Marta is there. She’s wonderful, but shouldn’t her futbol “one name” be snazzier?

does asking what your favorite fubol team is at a job interview constitute an illegal religious question?

@efgoldman: “Socrates”. “Hulk”.

Who wins? Who the fuck cares?
