Due to a quirk of geography and time zones, both games are occurring simultaneously: Colombia v Mexico in Moncton 5 p.m. ADT and Spain v Costa Rica in Montreal 4 p.m. EDT.
So, arepas v tortillas in Moncton and gazpacho v pico de gallo in Montreal. This is the all Castellano segment! Who do you like?
raven
Colombia! (just because I have a dear friend from there).

Did Mexico just get shafted on that yellow?
eta The rules analyst says no.

Colombia & CR
Vamos!
I should add that the Spanish team is apparently very good.
wow, way not to get down CR.

I ran across this, which may be of interest to those who might be looking for a soccer related podcast:

@Brachiator: Looks like a great link. Thanks!

Good to hear the commentators talk about how hard it is for women in CR and other Latin American countries to be able to play, lots of hurdles to accepting women can be athletic in this way.

After tonnes (sp?) of pressure, Mexico take the lead on Colombia.
Why are Mexico all in dark red? And why do I have to remind myself that the yellow and white are not Brasil, but Colombia?
PS As the last remaining Expos fan in my county, Stade Olympique looks just like I remember it.
West of the Cascades
Tortillas in Moncton, torn on the other match … lived in Costa Rica growing up but, as a Portland Thorns fan, feel obligated to root for Vero Boquete. Go tie!!!
Roger Moore
@ThresherK:
Did you expect The Big Owe to improve?
ThresherK
@Roger Moore: Actually, I meant, “it seems to have the same number of fans in the seats as could stomach the ruination of the club by Jeffrey Fucking Loria”.
The fake turf–a point of controvery for this WWC–seems to be from the last CFL playoff game there, which I think makes it better for football than in many of the other venues.
Valdivia (The Terrible)
Si Colombia. Will it be two ties?
grrljock
Spain vs Costa Rica was evenly contested, as reflected in the score. I have to say that I hate the turf. I don’t remember the goalie who wore a short sleeved shirt–really quite foolhardy considering the turf burns one can get on that crap surface.
Also, what’s up with the ref calling BS yellow and red cards? Japan’s PK and Swiss’ goalie’s yellow card was a terrible, terrible call.
