    Chicago born and raised here. Of the two spankings I ever got from my dad (both more than deserved) the first one was over a Blackhawks game in about 1965, limited TV’s and channel options, and one seriously pissed off babysitter. She narc’d me out for being a total little kid dick, and my dad didn’t play that.

    Anyway, I’ve never seen the city so jacked, not even in 1985 when the Bears were beating the crap out of everyone. In my estimation, overly so. TB is good and I expect another squeaker. In any case, it has been very fun, and will be GREAT fun should the Blackhawks win tonight.

    huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/15/imf-greece-veto_n_7588594.html

    a Saturday report by the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung reveals the IMF vetoed a compromise that cut military spending proposed by the European Commission.

    Proposal would have allowed Greece to defer 400 million euros in pension cuts, as long as it cut an equivalent amount from its military budget. The German newspaper reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Holland had signed off on Juncker’s compromise plan.

    If the report is correct, ideology is playing just as much of a role as arithmetic in preventing a resolution. The IMF’s refusal to consider a plan that would lessen pension cuts is consistent with its historically neoliberal political philosophy.

    @efgoldman: Crawford, who can be shaky, was absolutely magnificent tonight.

    As usual, the team with the better goaltender wins.

    Those were two wonderful, memorable evenings.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    I’ll be in Chicago for a week this September. I could possibly scoot up to Madison for a Midwestern meetup.

    3 cups in 6 years is a ridiculous feat in the salary cap era. Hockey, now has to be the toughest sport to win multiple championships. Between the length of seasons, and the ridiculous amount of collisions, it is simply too easy to lose key components of your team. The hard salary cap means after you win, important supporting players are highly sought after and can’t be kept around. And the one unique aspect of hockey, a single player (the goalie) can get hot, and carry a team that is not particularly good past a much superior team.
    As a long time Hawks fan, thinking back to the years before Kane and Toews, and just how truly dreadful this franchise was in the previous decade or so (basically since Roenick left) it gives me hope for the current crop of Cub’s youngsters.

    @SiubhanDuinne: If ya’ll decide to do that (meet in Rockford, that is), let a brother know, I might be able to roll out a welcome wagon. Or at least buy a drink.
