As the Charleston Massacre has helped show, domestic terrorism by right-wing groups is a huge threat. And a recent study by the New America Foundation has shown that white people are America’s biggest threat:
Almost twice as many people have died in attacks by right-wing groups in America than have died in attacks by Muslim extremists. Of the 26 attacks since 9/11 that the group defined as terror, 19 were carried out by non-Muslims. Yet there are no white Americans languishing inside the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. And there are no drones dropping bombs on gatherings of military-age males in the country’s lawless border regions.
And that’s not including mass shootings like Sandy Hook or the movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
Team Blackness also discussed the Supreme Court’s support of Obamacare subsidies and upholding a housing discrimination law and an arsonist hits a black church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

To be fair, the New America study appears to be as legitimate as Bush apologists saying that there were no major attacks on American soil in his final seven years in office. I don’t think you can just conveniently remove 9/11 from consideration.

“And that’s not including mass shootings like Sandy Hook or the movie theater in Aurora, Colorado”.
Or the wars in Vietnam and Iraq. Like the man once said, “violence is as American as cherry pie”. MLK said as much when he finally denounced America’s War In Vietnam. Lincoln counseled under the duress of a civil war that we must learn to think anew. And so we must, if our ship is to be righted. So imagine if the nation’s sudden revulsion towards the confederate flag were extended to the above mentioned wars (as Clio demands whether we heed her or not). I submit the wider the context in which America’s ‘white threat’ (call it what you will) is perceived and understood, the better.

White terrorists have got nothing on Gay Marriage when it comes to killing folk. Gay Marriage has killed thousands… wait, what’s that you say? Gay Marriage hasn’t killed anyone? Well then, carry on.
When I was younger, in the 80s and 90s, I wondered what it would be like to live through a civil rights era like what happened in the 1960s, to live through a huge historical sea change, and see an entire society, government, nation evolve its position while I watched in real time. I don’t need to wonder any longer, for these past several years it has happened and today is a huge milestone.
When I was 12, there was a gay kid in my loose circle of friends. I had no idea what that entailed, or why he acted the way he did, or even that he was gay. He just acted differently, foppish, effeminate, and lots of kids teased him about it. I never did, but didn’t defend him much either, although we’d hang out sometimes and do shit. Looking back now, it’s easy to see that he was a “classic” gay. For him most of all, this ruling makes me happy so he can have the same choices the rest of use heterosexuals have taken for granted lo these many centuries.
I was chatting yesterday with my own 12 year old daughter about Cara Delevinge. Thanks to the internet, kids these days are exposed to homosexuality and bisexuality as a matter of course, and they just seem to accept it for what it is. We were talking about how, being bisexual, she gets shit from both sides: the straights and the lesbians. My daughter thought that unfair, as everyone should just accept her for who she is and not try to put her into one box or another. I was happy she’d drawn this conclusion on her own, and it gives me hope for the future of a more tolerant society.

@Tree With Water:
Humans are violent by nature. Some more so than others. The only way peace has ever existed is between members of rival violent groups.

@Elizabelle:
Those kids are breaking my heart more than they usually would because my similarly-aged nieces lost their dad a couple of weeks ago, so I keep seeing them all as one group of bereaved children. What a waste.

Also, I think I’m supposed to be Outraged! that some Confederate memorials are being graffitied with “Black Lives Matter.” I think I’ll play this tiny violin instead.

@Mnemosyne (iPhone): Yeah, can understand how raw that would feel. Particularly as your little-ish ones may not have the love and support the Pinckney family is being enveloped in.

Thanks, Chris Rock.

Which is more prevalent. Racist white young men killing black adults in a church or young blacks killing blacks. Or for that matter white rednecks killing each other or themselves looking for heroin. More heterosexual long lasting marriages believing in a god will solve the problem
