    With a bit of better finishing France would be ahead at halftime.

    I suspect the first change the German coach Neid will make is to bring on Dzenifer Marozsan. The German midfield needs some skill upgrade.

    @Randinho: I think that has a lot more to do with the fact that upper corners of the net are wide open and that making them against much smaller keepers is easier.

    France is going to rue this loss for a long damn time, they did everything they needed to do to unhinge that German back line and failed to capitalize.

    The ref handed that game to Germany. The penalty for Germany seemed dubious. I’m mystified why she didn’t award France a penalty when a French attacker in alone was clattered down from behind.

    @Randinho: They were, well taken, well struck and effective, but the first two German kicker both went high to the right and the goalie stood no chance

    One thing to be gleaned from this game: if the US beats China, then they have to focus their attack against Germany on speed. Germany looked very vulnerable for most of this game.

    @HumboldtBlue: I agree. But it is possible to miss a handball, even when you’re on a tear calling dubious handballs. But there was no possibility the ref didn’t see the French attacker flattened from behind, so that non-call was just beyond the pale.

    @tsquared2001: I just thought the Germans were pinned back for much of the game, especially on the counterattack.I think that they can be beaten by a quick team that finishes better as SRW1 noted above
