Rain in SoCal? Too bad the illegals will suck it all away from those with the privilege to enjoy it
Returning to the back bedroom shortly to continue assembling IKEA stuff. Bought a full size bed frame, mattress, mattress cover, 6-drawer chest and two night stands. Next time I’m bringing someone with me — I’ll be hurting tomorrow.

Here’s a controversial issue you-all can discuss. My daughter is marrying a person from Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh and they have this wedding tradition:
For as long as anyone here can remember, wedding receptions in Pittsburgh have featured cookie tables, laden with dozens of homemade old-fashioned offerings like lady locks, pizzelles and buckeyes. For weeks ahead — sometimes months — mothers and aunts and grandmas and in-laws hunker down in the kitchen baking and freezing. Then, on the big day, hungry guests ravage the buffet, piling plates high and packing more in takeout containers so they can have them for breakfast the next day.
It’s really been the best thing. Everyone is all excited about making cookies. They all just needed a job, turns out! Now it’s teamwork all the way because we have to get her enough cookies :)
I’m the same way. If I were a front pager, I would probably just link to interesting news stories, because I wouldn’t have the energy for anything else.

Yeah, I’ve always wondered that about the racists. Every nursing home and assisted-care facility I’ve ever seen has been staffed by many black nurses and other staff. Who do the racists think are going to take care of them when they’re old and feeble?
I remember the last scene in “Monsters Ball” when the old racist father is shipped off to the nursing home, and he finds himself with black nurses. It’s like a hell on earth for him.
It happened to me for weeks. It was something about a script. I have two different providers one at work and one at home so I don’t think it was that.

@BillinGlendaleCA: It must be the same storm that hit Phoenix yesterday. The roof at the D-Back-Giants game was closed on account of the 92 degree outside temperature, and it leaked. It was dripping onto the field a few different places, including near-or-on the pitching mound. Both team’s pitchers had their plant foot slide out underneath once it started dripping, and hell would surely have been raised if one of them had been hurt.
One thing that does bring a smile to my face on this hot, muggy summer day is that Trump cost himself a ton of money and has , IMO, permanently ruined his brand. Racism sells great in the GOP, but not in the American business community anymore. Add to that he stepped on the third rail of American politics, never go after vets. Trump probably had a very slim chance of being the GOP nominee, but that is gone. And his name, which was perhaps his best business asset, now belongs with the cutout albums in the back of the record store (I actually tried to explain that reference to a 25 year od at work recently and it didn’t work).

Normally, I’d be just hot or hot with Santa Ana winds. The Santa Ana’s blow from the north east and heat through compression when they come through the mountain passes.
The RNC has issued a statement denouncing Trump’s comment saying his comments on McCain “have no place in our party or country”.
Yet they never denounced his vicious attacks lies on immigrants and his birtherism – to them, that was kosher.
Wow – I couldn’t imagine a better attempt at damage control by the RNC. For the Democrats. Are these guys amateurs? The way to do this is to denounce Trump the person, not specifically anything he says. Denounce him as an individual and then there’s nothing specific on the record about which of his positions you find odious and which you find okay. But specifically denouncing his angry tirade against Grampa Walnuts while not saying anything about his racist screeds about Mexico and Mexicans is just stupid.
(My prediction is that everyone is going to be surprised to find out that Trump’s statements about Grampa Walnuts’s heroism will only have a slight positive improvement in his polling numbers. Trump’s base HATES McCain and Romney almost more than they hate Obama. They’re eating this up with a goddamn spoon and are so happy to have someone standing up there saying all the things they’ve been saying for years and not talking in dogwhistles or codewords. His base are the Republicans who are crazy enough to think that voting for Donald Fucking Trump is a good idea. My suspicion is that this group is about 27% of the GOP primary voting base – and Trump’s recent polling has him at 18% of likely GOP primary voters. He’s still got about 9% of the voting base that isn’t quite convinced yet that he’s their kind of crazy – this kind of shit talk will help get a few of them onto his side.)

Yeah, I’ve always wondered that about the racists. Every nursing home and assisted-care facility I’ve ever seen has been staffed by many black nurses and other staff. Who do the racists think are going to take care of them when they’re old and feeble?
I don’t think that’s a problem for them. They think that’s exactly how things are supposed to be. Whites are at the top, and Others are there to serve them. Rich plantation owners didn’t have any problem being waited on hand and foot by their slaves.

@Hungry Joe: I’m so sorry. It’s always hard when a beloved old companion leaves us. But it sounds like you have tons of good memories.
I don’t think that’s a problem for them. They think that’s exactly how things are supposed to be. Whites are at the top, and Others are there to serve them. Rich plantation owners didn’t have any problem being waited on hand and foot by their slaves.
I only have experience with northern racists. Folks out in the exurbs, in the malls, in their SUVs and trucks. They don’t want to be anywhere near black people. Not in the same neighborhood, not in the same room.
I suspect they’ll be profoundly uncomfortable with a black nurse or helper walking into their room and asking “And how are YOU today?” every morning.
I’m watching a movie on MeTV names “The Shadow of the Cat”. A family matriarch is killed and the only witness is her cat, who is determined to exact revenge. The family members are trying find the cat who keeps giving them the slip. I don’t often watch the Svengolie show but the movie sounded really good. Svengolie comes on right after original Star Trek.
Yeah, I’ve always wondered that about the racists. Every nursing home and assisted-care facility I’ve ever seen has been staffed by many black nurses and other staff. Who do the racists think are going to take care of them when they’re old and feeble?
Speaking from a little bit of experience, I think that the client/caregiver relationship will seem traditional enough to make it tolerable for some racists. (Though they can easily make the staff angry and miserable.) The separatists, though, they’re out of luck.

Biggest applause line: “Their greed has got to end, and we are going to end it for them.”
Cookie tables are extremely important and competitive here in the Burgh. Not only must you have one, but the cookies must all be homemade and pizelles and lady locks are required. Kolache and and canolli are also de rigeur. The more labor intensive, the more memorable.
You too know, that among us, white men have an equality resulting from a presence of a lower caste, which cannot exist where white men fill the position here occupied by the servile race. The mechanic who comes among us, employing the less intellectual labor of the African, takes the position which only a master-workman occupies where all the mechanics are white, and therefore it is that our mechanics hold their position of absolute equality among us.
Equality among whites was achieved by having a lower class. You might be cooking meth in your single-wide, but by virtue of being white you were more respected than a black doctor or black CEO. What’s what the tea-party chants of socialism are really about – that we would dare put a black president above any white voter. They can’t have it. That’s what that confederate flag is really about – why it was dragged out in 1962, why they waved it outside the President’s hotel – “know your place, Obama”.

I am unfortunate enough to have been represented by John McCain through his whole electoral career(he was a USRep. before the Senate.) I kind of agree with what Trump said. I’ve always thought McCain overdid on the War Hero thing. There have been rumors that he cracked and gave up info to the enemy. He caused deaths on the carrier ship by being a fuck up. He graduated towards the bottom of his Naval Academy class. BTW, he also treated his first wife like shit after he came back. I have no idea what Cindy McCain sees in him. She’s way younger than him, rich, attractive and seems to have a brain. She could have found better presidential material if thats what.she wasooking for. I also don’t think he’s all that intellectually smart.

Hah! I’m so glad you showed up. I knew you’d know all about them.
I don’t make cookies but I assigned them the work :)
It’s been fun. We have some of the men making some. One of my sisters makes a lot of money and she doesn’t make cookies either so she hired someone to make her quota of homemade cookies. I told her she can lie if she wants to.
Pittsburgh people are great to work with. I’m also in charge of the cake and I ordered it w/in what I think is plenty of time but people told me “OMG, you’re doomed, no one will make it”. I called the bakery in Pittsburgh and apologized for “short notice” and she said “it’s a big white layer cake. It’s not brain surgery. Of course we can make it”.
I’m a terrible baker, so “none”. I have to get there days early too so I can’t be doing any of my lame attempts at baking in a hotel, thank God. The experienced cookie bakers are freezing theirs. One of the male guests said he would make “a dozen” and the cookie bakers just jeered- “you don’t turn on the oven for less than 2 dozen!” He’s also making M & M cookies and I felt they didn’t approve of that. Now I’m picturing sad cookies with bleeding M & M colors on a paper plate from him. I may have to avoid him completely at this reception.

@debbie: Anecdotal proof that Trump may indeed be around for some time, as long as he doesn’t alienate all his supporters: on a trip to Lowe’s today I let an older but squeaky clean bright red Ford Explorer into my lane and adorning the driver’s back window was a pretty spiffy new Trump 2016 sticker. What was interesting though was the sticker on the other side, a mostly blue sticker spelling out EBOLA with the O being a replication of the Obama logo from 2012. Underneath was this text: “Obama’s legacy to America”. I didn’t even get mad. Stands to reason that someone sporting a Trump sticker would have no problem sporting one that denigrates this President.
However, for all us OBOTS, I’m sharing a link my niece in VA-DC area sent to me today:
I know, but I love Keanu. I’ll probably end up watching with my hands mostly over my eyes while pacing around the living room.
My pup is going nuts. I have her a pig’s ear and she is trying to bury it in the slipcover of the couch. She is using her nose to push the cover over the mostly buried ear.
@MomSense: The movie is not gorey but is very violent in a fight/gun way – in a manner you’ve never seen before, I guarantee. That’s what makes it an interesting film, but again, super violent. It deserves the R.

I have never had any recent problems with BJ on Chrome or Safari whether on laptop, iPad or phone. Could the problem be the Internet provider?

I’m the same way. If I were a front pager, I would probably just link to interesting news stories, because I wouldn’t have the energy for anything else.
And ban people. I would ban so many people.

Good.

It happened to me for weeks. It was something about a script. I have two different providers one at work and one at home so I don’t think it was that.

I think Trump’ll be around for a while. He’s been trending on Facebook, so I clicked and scrolled down until I got to a post from The Blaze. The comments there (thousands) are all very supportive of his remarks. Reading them, I can’t imagine what he’d have to say to alienate them.

She was just an awesome cat, as your Scully clearly was too
Tree With Water

@BillinGlendaleCA: The weather patterns down there- I’m in Sonoma county- are unknown to me. I’ve don’t recall ever hearing the term ‘monsoon’ used in describing southern Cal weather, for example. @David Koch:

My favorite people at campaign announcement events are still the two guys who stood on either side of Rick Perry and squinted belligerently at the crowd. They looked like they just woke up after a long inebriated slumber and found themselves surrounded by crocodiles.

The crowd is getting charged up listening to Muse’s “Uprising”. Fitting lyrics.
@Another Holocene Human: I’m sure that is true. Also we have a relatively early primary. Tucson and Flagstaff would be far less welcoming.

@Germy Shoemangler:

@Germy Shoemangler:
Speaking from a little bit of experience, I think that the client/caregiver relationship will seem traditional enough to make it tolerable for some racists. (Though they can easily make the staff angry and miserable.) The separatists, though, they’re out of luck.

Cookie tables are extremely important and competitive here in the Burgh. Not only must you have one, but the cookies must all be homemade and pizelles and lady locks are required. Kolache and and canolli are also de rigeur. The more labor intensive, the more memorable.

@Roger Moore: Yep. Jefferson Davis:

Trump is just speaking to that now, but this is what some conservative publications have written about McCain for years. This is the same constituency that ate up the Swift boat BS and yet think Ted ” I Deceived My Draft Board by Crapping my Pants for a Month” Nugent is more patriotic then Kerry.
