Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Republicans in disarray!

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

We still have time to mess this up!

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

This really is a full service blog.

Feeling a bit jealous because I can’t ever get to a meet-up! I hope you all have a great time!

Invite Megan. I hear she has a sense of humor on Twitter.

Metrorail accessible, please (although I’m sure that’s on DougJ’s list). A walk is fine.

DougJ: have you been checking out the U Street NW area? I’ve not been up there for a year, but hear it’s hopping. And very metro accessible.

Mostly glad to see you again.

The GOP candidates: not so much.

@Mike E: Getting into a public throw down with some Trump supporters could get the group into the national news. Though upper NW DC isn’t actually rife with them.

@John Dillinger: Nah. Too many reporters live around there. They appreciate their privacy.

@Elizabelle: Yeah, there are a ton of great bars in the area. My favorite beer bar on U st. – The Saloon – happens to have no televisions. Not ideal for debate watching…

Do you have a Twitter account or something? It’s hard to catch posts here once they’re off the front page.

For some reason FYWP won’t let me post from mobile; let’s see if desktop is any better.

I’ll try to make it; depends on how late the Nationals game goes. (In town to see family, so they get priority.)

@dedc79: The Saloon is currently closed while they’re in West Africa building houses.

WaPost puts up some debate-watching venue suggestions (with vague suggestion to get a life, in the lede: “We know this is Washington, the wonkiest town in America. But there are 460 days until the presidential election.”):

The Black Squirrel: It’s half-price burger night at the Black Squirrel, which means you can fill up on some of the city’s best burgers before settling in with a craft beer. Burgers and beers will probably be the best thing about your night. (2427 18th St. NW. http://www.blacksquirreldc.com.)

Looking Glass Lounge: The Park View bar’s Republican Debate Bingo promises “drinking games, drink specials, hilarity and sadness,” beginning at 8 p.m., which sounds about right. After the debate, they’re also showing the final episode of Jon Stewart hosting “The Daily Show.” (3634 Georgia Ave. NW. http://www.thelookingglasslounge.com.)

Lou’s City Bar: If you’re looking for a bar showing the debate with full sound within a few steps of the Columbia Heights Metro, you’ve found it. The bar is serving up Trump Bingo cards, with “Vote for Me or There’ll Be Hell Toupee” shots for winners. Also, all “[fill-in-the-spirit] and soda” drinks are $5. (1400 Irving St. NW. http://www.louscitybar.com.)

Number Nine: The P Street lounge is showing the debate with full audio upstairs. Get there early to take advantage of the two-for-one drinks at happy hour, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Seriously, you’ll need them. (1435 P St. NW. http://www.numberninedc.com.)

Union Pub and 201 Bar: The two Senate-side bars will show the debate with sound, and they’re promoting Cloture Club’s Republican Debate Drinking Game. Sample rule: “Drink 1 and yell ‘They took our jobs!’ when a candidate says ‘Illegal Immigrants.'” (201 Massachusetts Ave. NE. http://www.unionpubdc.com and http://www.201bar.com.)

Ventnor Sports Cafe: While the Adams Morgan sports bar is known for its State of the Union drinking game, there’s no organized event this time, probably because it’s just a primary. But the sound will be on. Maybe you can print out a drinking game and play along? Try this one, this one or maybe this one. We’re still looking for a good bingo card. (2411 18th St. NW. http://www.ventnorsportscafe.com.)

Comment in moderation; put up WaPost link on debate-watching venues: might have had a forbidden word in it.

    ETA: Maybe the offending word is B I N G O

@MattF: If it’s in Cleveland Park, maybe we can get David Brooks to attend.

Hope to catch you guys next time, especially if it’s a NoVA-area meet up.

But not if David Brooks is in attendance.

I will be there wearing the shirt that says “all live matters except the dentist who killed Cecil, the Colorado theater shooter, michael brown, Samuel Debose, the white cop killed in Memphis, Timothy mcveigh, and the unborn child sold by planned parenthood for profit even though they are non profit”

The closest Metro station is 10+ minutes brisk walk from Woodley. Just sayin’.

Note to people unfamiliar with the area – Dupont Circle may look about the same distance but it is an uphill walk.
