From commentor LF:
I am a US citizen living in the UK. I know you have other UK readers so I thought I’d take the chance of asking for your help for this little mite.
We live out in the countryside and found this cat wandering a back lane, much as John found Rosie. We knew right away that she had been dumped and, when we took her to the vet, they confirmed that her microchip is registered to an address 100 miles away. The owners are not answering messages.
We recently took in a stray cat who isn’t getting on with our other two, so I don’t think we can handle a fourth. But she is 8 years old and, if I can’t find her a home myself, her prospects aren’t good.
I will drive her anywhere in England if some kind Balloon Juicer has room for her.
She is petite, loving, sweet, clean and – according to the vet – seems perfectly healthy other than needing her teeth cleaned. She’s calm and non-confrontational around other cats. She loves to sit on your lap, and purrs loudly whenever she gets any affection. She’s already stolen my husband’s heart and will do the same to anyone who meets her.
I understand if you don’t feel you have enough British readers to post this, but I thought I’d ask anyway.

Goddammit. Why did I move to Australia. She looks like a lovely moggy. Good luck and I’ll pass this along to a couple of friends.

Brits are notorious softies re: animals, so even if you can’t find a BJ’er on the other side of the pond, there must be a good resource for homing this little lovely.
PurpleGirl
She’s floofy, and such beautiful colors. Hope she finds a new home.
Poopyman
A tortie! They are notorious sweethearts. And if that long hair is Maine Coon that would be an awesome combination, although the body looks too short for either MC or Norwegian Forest. But what do I know?
Somebody needs to rescue this sweetie. If we didn’t already have 5, some of whom have already driven off a sixth, and lived on the same side of the ocean, I’d seriously consider it.
J.
If we lived in the UK, I would gladly take her in. She sounds and looks like a lovely feline. Hope she finds a home!
WereBear
What a darling! Why on earth the people who chipped her have vanished (at least for her) I have no idea.
To social media!
Schlemazel
Gawd I love torties! Just another reason I wish I lived in England. Good luck to both of you.
OzarkHillbilly
Seems as though there are only 7 cat lovers among the Balloon Juice community.

I had a cat I got as a 7 week old kitten from my French teacher way back in 1965. She (the cat, not Miss Ellard) looked just like that. and she was the sweetest, purringest kitty know to man. She lived close to 15 years. Oh, to be in England…..
satby
@OzarkHillbilly: 8 at least ;)
I’m going to share on FB and ask my UK friends to share as well.
WereBear
@satby: I wanted to mention how much I love my soaps! Absolutely delightful to smell and my skin (sensitive and touchy) finds them a soothing treat.
Makes you wonder just how much chemical nasty goes into the usual soaps!
JPL
What a cute cat. I hope someone opens their doors.
gogol's wife
Squee to the nth! She is adorable. I hope you find a good home.
debbie
@gogol’s wife:
OT: Did you finish rereading Wolf Hall? Did you like it more the second time around?
JPL
Anne, Make sure you let the rest of us know what happens.
satby
@WereBear: oh thanks!
I have a whole book on the chemicals… eww!
And I speak as someone who is still very grateful for the wonders of modern chemistry, in it’s proper place.
Most people don’t realize that commercial bath products were changed from soaps to detergents during WWII and never changed back after the war because the detergents were so much cheaper. But they’re harsher, so lots more has to be added to make them less irritating.
For me it’s simpler just to use the pure product.
satby
@satby: Ok,shared and UK friends tagged and asked to share as well. Here’s hoping!
Interrobang
Eight years old and dumped. There’s gotta be a special place in the Hell I don’t believe in…
ThresherK (GPad)
Our best cat ever was a petite tortie. I have since been a sucker for the runt of the litter.
Love the markings. Is that an orange spot on her otherwise green-yellow eyes?
sparrow
@Interrobang: Agreed. I tried to come up with a more charitable interpretation, like “her sweet old lady owner died, and then her horrible spawn didn’t know what to do with her and dumped the kitty” but that’s not really better.
But I love petite kitties. Look at those short little legs! Green eyes! so cute.
WaterGirl
@WereBear: Satby has so many wonderful soaps. Which scents did you get? Which kind of soap?
WereBear
Currently being socially acceptable with the Wildflower scent, in the bar.
OzarkHillbilly
@WereBear: In a bar? At 8:30 in the morning? Does Mr WereBear know about this?
ThresherK
@WereBear: No idea of the policy for this particular situation, but the Humane Society in my state started chipping all the felines (in addition to fixing them, of course) a few years ago.
It may be that someone who thought so little of this QTπ to do this wasn’t the one who got her chipped.
rikyrah
I hope this cutiepie finds a home.
WaterGirl
@ThresherK: @rikyrah: ThresherK, I thought your QTπ was a typo until I read rikyrah’s cutiepie comment and then happened to see your acronym.
She really is a beauty and looks very sweet, I really hope someone on BJ can give her a good home. Crossing my fingers for you, little one.
Kristine
Will share on FB
Kitts
OMG, she looks like a tiny version of my kitty (a giant tortie Norwegian forest mix)! I’m in the US, so I can’t really help, but I hope you find a good home for her and keep us updated!
Kristine
On a different note–has this site slowed down like whoa wrt loading etc, or is it just some server in my neck of the woods?
Steeplejack
@Kristine:
No, it’s been slow for everybody the past three days or so. A spaniard in the works somewhere.
Amir Khalid
@Kristine:
This is the third consecutive day it’s been like this.
Mingobat f/k/a Karen in GA
Slow as hell, yep. And I’m sharing this on FB as well. I know some raging cat lovers in the UK.
WereBear
@OzarkHillbilly: I do not expect any Juicer to let such a double entendre slide :)
Big R
@Steeplejack: Why are you anti Hispanic?
MattF
@Amir Khalid: It’s slow and the Wonkette headlines have disappeared. And there’s an occaisional unexpected wtf_fywp, just for funsies.
Amir Khalid
@MattF:
Disappearing the Wonkette headlines hasn’t sped things up much, if at all.
Matt McIrvin
My Niobe was a funny-looking short-legged tortie (shorter-haired, though, and gray/cream rather than black/tan). Best cat ever, a great lap cat and loyal purry friend. Bit of a drama queen, and so tremendously strong that the vet had to get two people to hold her down when they did anything. The short legs seemed to give her good leverage.
CONGRATULATIONS!
She’s a lovely little tortie. I wish I could take her.
Misha
What general part of England is she in? I’m in the North West…..I might be able to sort this – but need a general part of the country to start with. I have buckets of UK people on Facebook – most animal people.
BerkeleyMom
She looks like she’s got some ragdoll in her. They are sweet cats. Hope she finds a loving home.
kc
What a lovely kitty! How could anyone abandon her?
I’ll post this on Twitter.
LanceThruster
Shared on FB. I’m worshiped like a god there
.
ThresherK
@Matt McIrvin: so tremendously strong that the vet had to get two people to hold her down when they did anything
Including wearing the gauntlet leather gloves? Because we’ve had a couple cats like that.
Heather
If you suppose she wouldn’t be traumatized by having a terrier pal, my husband would love this kitty (and we’re in the UK).
gogol's wife
@debbie:
You probably won’t see this, but I just finished Bring Up the Bodies the second time, after finishing Wolf Hall for the second time. I loved them both even more the second time around, and I expect it won’t be the last. Now I have to watch the series again!
Jane2
@Heather: Heather FTW! The kitty is adorable and would have several takers on this side of the Atlantic.
WaterGirl
@Heather: Please let us know if you end up adopting, or don’t. She looks like a doll.
Misha
Still interested in knowing what general area she’s in – might know someone – but need info!

I continued to fuss over RJ. Knowing that showing jealousy increases the fuss over the other cat is a good way to not send an encouraging message about this behavior. I reminded Tristan there was no shortage of love to go around.
