Lots and lots of material cut for time from that Jeb Bush interview.
— Dave Itzkoff (@ditzkoff) September 9, 2015
Also, Jeb! held charity raffle, winner was invited to show. When she was called upon to ask her question, she couldn't be found in theater.

Izkoff’s full NYTimes report [spoilers!] of the taping of the first Colbert show here, and his pre-taping interview with the man here.
Jeb Bush remains a bumbling idiot (although Colbert was extremely kind to him) and Les Moonves remains a narcissistic jackwad (not a spoiler).
Also “cut for time”, via Deadline Hollywood:
Now that the suspense is over, what’s on the agenda for the day?

I clicked to play the Jeb! Bonus! Clip! video, and got a message: “This video is not available.” I clicked on each of the links and when I tried to play the video, I got: “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”
Pout.

For once I went to bed at a decent hour (around midnight) and was sleeping like a baby for a change until one of my idiot dogs started barking her head off just before 4 AM. The rest of my family could sleep through a bomb, so it was up to me to check it out. There was nothing out there. Psychosomatic cats, squirrels or burglars, I guess.
Stupid fucking dog! Still, it’s not like that particular dog to bark at nothing. The other, yes — we assume she’s barking at random pieces of dandelion fluff floating through the air. The dog who barked is generally the more trustworthy of the two. Maybe she really did scare something away.
@Amir Khalid: No fair!
Morzer
@Amir Khalid:
Amir Khalid, I solved that problem by applying Hola Unblocker and setting it to .. America the Beautiful *cough* Sorry, I had a Romney caffeine-free flashback there.

I believe I have found the next Fox news cameracritter:

@Betty Cracker: I’m awake because my 21-lb heat-bomb of a cat stomped across my legs, settled in across said legs, and then started poking at me because his bowl is empty.
I know it would cause chaos, but I do sometimes wish he had thumbs.

@Betty Cracker:
We refer to those as “coded transmissions from the Dog Planet.”
Of course, in our house, if one dog barks, all the other dogs feel compelled to join the choir…
raven
@tesslibrarian: I’m awake because I’m always awake at this time! At 6:30 we’ll wrangle up the dogs and walk to Bog City!
tesslibrarian
@raven: We have a loaf of French country bread from Independent bakery in the kitchen, so no Big City for me this morning, though it is my favorite place to have breakfast. The weather coming in this weekend is supposed to be amazing–I love sitting on their patio.
Betty Cracker
@raven: God Save the Queen!
raven
@Anne Laurie: Lil Bit never barks except when she wants a cookie. Bohdi howls when he hears a recording of Raven barking.
raven
@tesslibrarian: If you look next to the door on your way out there is a picture of Raven. We found Bohdi there almost 11 years ago so it’s his home-away-from-home every morning!
tesslibrarian
@Anne Laurie: My sister’s sheltie barks at everything, but it’s the howling along with her 2-year-old daughter’s tantrums that, as merely the visiting sister/aunt, I find sort of hilarious.
(ETA: I realize this is not nice of me. But damn if that dog doesn’t hit pitch and duet with the cranky baby.)
raven
This is Raven looking for a cookie in the window of Big City. This was before they knocked out that wall and expanded.
tesslibrarian
@raven: I love that picture. I grew up with a black cocker (English cocker). She was a sweet, sweet dog.
It’s always nice to have a home away from home. We get our lunch there often enough that they give us a gift certificate at Christmas.
Betty Cracker
@raven: It just cracks me up when dogs howl! Our Patsy Marie used to howl at the songs played over the loudspeaker by ice cream trucks when she was a pup, but she stopped when she got older. I guess maybe her ears were more sensitive then?
tesslibrarian
@raven: Awww! Sweet picture!
raven
@tesslibrarian: That is good to hear, Matthew always gives us one too! We go their every day and have since they have opened 15 years ago! We actually pay for our coffee by the month so I don’t have to carry any dough.
raven
@Betty Cracker: I don’t know. The only time Bodhi does that is when he hears Raven. There is something burned into his brain.

Mornin Jihad is continuing with the whole outfit just having the best time ridiculing her to the point of showing the end of “It’s a Good Life”.

@raven: Matthew is a nice guy. My husband is the one who usually goes by and picks up lunch, but we come in for dinner on occasion, and Elena is always great when I call her with some sort of last-minute catering request for the historical society.
raven
@tesslibrarian: And the kids!
eta What’s interesting for me/us is to go there other than 7-7:20. We have a strict weekday schedule and meet our friends for those 20 minutes. When I pop in to get a baguette during other times it’s like another world! Enough, off we go!

I haven’t watched Morning Joe for several months until this am. Just wow. It was bad enough how ridiculous they all sounded as they obsessed about how “flat” Hillary has been saying she’s sorry but then Mika started in on the length of Hillary interview on Ellen vs with other media. Worse than high school.

@bemused:
That show is essentially a free ad for the RNC.

@raven: Have a lovely walk and coffee!

@raven:
Bohdi is part or half Samoyed, iirc? Most Sammys have the howl gene. Our young one often greets my husband when he comes home from work with long howling conversations. She is so happy he’s home, you’d think he’s be gone for 8 days, not 8 hrs. It’s hysterical.
bemused
@Baud:
That too but for the most part mainstream media is pathetic. MJ is a horror.

I’m glad they’re expanding Moanin’ Joe to 4 hours. More for me to ignore, plus no Jose Diaz Balart Show, with guest star Ileanna Ros-Lentinen and her vocal stylings of garbled nonsense.
The new season begins in NYC. Lots of ways to spend money on the theater, especially on revivals. Cloud 9, Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me. Relieved that I will feel no guilt in missing Laurie Metcalf performance in the stage version of Misery. Love her, but not about to part with my Social Security to pay Bruce Willis so he can take acting lessons.
Mustang Bobby
@bemused: Did I hear right and that they’ve added yet another hour to MJ? Why don’t they just do re-runs of Pink Lady and Jeff or Supertrain and get it over with?
Gindy51
@Anne Laurie: This is why I love my deaf dog so much….

United Airlines chief executive officer Jeff Smisek stepped down “effective immediately” on Tuesday with the company citing an ongoing federal corruption investigation into the company.
The airline is under investigation over whether it improperly sought to influence officials at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in a scandal that has embarrassed Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie.
United also announced that its executive vice president of communications and government affairs and its senior vice president of corporate and government affairs had stepped down.
Bit don’t you worry your pretty little heads over poor Jeff’s fate:
According to the filing, Smisek will receive a payment of $4.875m as severance, in addition to a portion of his performance bonuses received in 2013, 2014 and 2015, which are still outstanding. He will also remain eligible for his bonus this year. In exchange, he is subject to a non-disparagement clause and a two-year-long non-competition agreement in his termination deal. He will also “hold in strict confidence any confidential information related to the companies”.
Yes, failing up, always.

Please tell me turn ons and favorite position aren’t two of the questions.

@Mustang Bobby: That cracked me up. I actually watched one show of Pink Lady and Jeff when it was broadcast. Like a slow motion cartoon train wreck.
Our malamute mix would talk. When we got back from a trip, it sounded just like “I love you.” And when we made our video to be accepted as a NewTek dealer, he successfully said, “Newtek.”
@Betty Cracker: I know you spend all day looking at screens, and so do I, and they fill our heads with blue light and our bodies don’t get the GOTOBED signal.
Wearing amber tinted glasses, even cheap sunglasses, at sundown can make a huge difference. I also have f.lux on my laptop. My favorite reading app, Oyster, has a similar sequence which ties into sundown in my area and tints my reading screen red instead of blue.
There’s tons of research now that staring at TVs, computers, or handhelds will bring on serious insomnia. With the blue light blocking and a sleep mask I love, my sleep has gone from awful to incredible.
It’s very easy to try.

Not exactly accurate. The 63rd anniversary of her accession was back on February 6, 2015 (her father died on that date in 1952).
What today signifies is that she will become the longest-reigning sovereign in British history, surpassing the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

@bemused: Yay! We got soaked walking home!
Betty Cracker
@WereBear: Thank you. I don’t think my chronic insomnia is screen-related since its onset predates the Internet, but I’m sure staring at a screen all day for work and then in the evening for leisure probably doesn’t help. An easy fix is worth a shot!
WereBear
@BillinGlendaleCA: We watch Netflix or occasionally Hulu and that’s about it. I love Rachel but I’m always doing other things in rooms away from the TV. However, she is an awesome force and it would be a terrible shame if they yank her.
I suspect she has the best ratings of anyone, though.
WereBear
@Betty Cracker: My insomnia was stress & illness related, but the fix worked for me and getting good sleep sure helped the other issues, so it was all good. :)

Cats are very clever survivalists. But they have another, more delightful, operating system:
Which operating system is your cat running?

No. I’m sorry. It’s from the twitter feed of the vast army of ordinary Kasich-haters on Twitter. Many of them are link-impaired but theyr’e fun anyway :)
Great. Theyr’e appointing a serial data-manipulator who is married to Kasich’s campaign chief to a Bd of Elections. I know he needed a crony-job after his two year stint cooking the books on charter schools but this is ridiculous.

Our 7 yr old Sam didn’t want to stay in outdoor kennel when her pal died at 13 and has slept in our bedroom since that sad day. She was very happy when we got a Sam puppy 2 years ago and took on protective, mother role right away as if saying, “She’s my baby”.
I just watched video of our young one behind my husband in easy chair with her front legs draped over his neck, howling and crooning her happiness he was home. Sweet.
Kay
@debbie:
That’s why they should have done a real investigation. Now he’s free to continue his career as a data-manipulator. This is the second time he skated. He did the same thing in ’09.
I’ve decided anything that comes out of the OHDOE is complete bullshit. They are pulling this stuff out of thin air and there’s no reason to think they aren’t doing that across the board. “Data-driven” my ass. People can do anything they want with numbers and make it look very science-y – it means nothing if the human beings involved are all corrupt.
Bobby Thomson
@debbie: Link. As appalling as this is, it’s probably more informative than most interviews on Fox News.
WaterGirl
@raven: They never fail to surprise me.
I’ve had a beloved dog die and thought for sure that the remaining dog would be grieving, but he seemed light as air, almost as though he knew his friend was in a better place after a long illness. And I’ve had the reverse happen. One cocker developed skin allergies and a gimpy leg after his dog companion died and the vet wasn’t able to resolve either issue. After about 6 months I brought another dog home and the limp immediately disappeared and the skin condition cleared up.
My second cocker, Mellon, only howled in response to two things: ambulance sirens and my mother’s singing.
WaterGirl
@Amir Khalid: I once went to a Wolf Park where they had a pack of wolves living pretty much in the wild, and on Friday night they had a wolf howl. We would start howling and the wolves would howl with us – it was pretty cool howling with the wolves.
